Same here. My family used Spanish as a way to talk without the kids knowing what was going on. sad part is they stopped us from learning our native language. And instead tried to learn in high school but ya that was hard. Still don't know any Spanish.

I wish I had a loving marriage like you two do... There's this horrible misconception especially in the West that all Muslim women are oppressed or abused. The reality is it's people like me that are oppressed and abused who are not Muslim. I hope one day I'll be able to save to get out of the situation and I'm in with my daughter, it's not very easy when you don't have any freedom. In all honesty, I would love to have a freedom to become Muslim, I can feel it in my heart but I don't have freedom of religion in this relationship even..

Thank you for teaching your daughter Urdu and Punjabi. Speaking multiple languages is so helpful, even if it’s just for cognitive abilities, and not for communication. Hey! A lot of the mirin used in ready sushi is "fake mirin" which is made up from sugar and flavourings instead of alcohol. Because kids eat sushi, too. So a good idea to check the ingredients or if at a restaurant you can ask without mirin, so they use just rice vinegar for the rice.

Janelle if u r a bilingual... U can try speaking ur mother tongue till 2 years since birth.(اردو in our case) .. Then start the 2nd lang which u know till he starts going school.. Then Eng usually at school.. Basically the more you/tutor speak with a child the more they learn.. Its a common practice in Pakistan, India (subcontinent).. Our household included

I think Canada’s food industry is much more accommodating to Muslim dietary restrictions.
