- Mat has returned to the Tesla Gigafactory in Austin Texas, and he’s got his hands on the all-new Cybertruck! So of course, you know what that means… It’s drag race time!
Naturally, there was only one competitor that we had to compare this all-electric pick-up to - the Hummer EV! The question is, which will come out on top?
Well, let’s check out the stats. Starting with the Cybertruck, it rolls up equipped with three electric motors, and they combine to produce 845hp and 930Nm of torque. The starting price of the dual-motor edition is around $49,000, but for this tri-motor Cyberbeast edition, it’ll cost you around $96,000! In terms of weight, the Cybertruck tips the scales at just over 3 tonnes.
Think that’s heavy? Well, that’s nothing compared to the Hummer, which comes in at 4,110kg!! Just like the Tesla, the Hummer is equipped with three motors, but it’s also up on power, producing 1,014hp and 1,485Nm! The price is also slightly higher than the Cybertruck, coming in at around £109,000.

Tires. The hummer's tires are road tires and the cyber truck has all terrain tires which are horrible when it comes to braking. If they both had the same tires the cyber truck would win by several meters.

No, not really. Difference is very small, well within the margin of error, and the braking distances at 70mph is mostly dictated by tire friction.
Most modern cars (as they are known in the UK), have relatively similar braking distances despite weight differences. This was quite within expectation and what is normal.

@@allsaddam The Hummer weighs 33% more than the Tesla, which is 1000kg, that's more weight that my hatchback and the hummer has an extra 169hp. That's not going to help it win a drag race with Hummer's gearing.
It also looks better eventhough i have an intense vast digust for the both of them immensely.

You can also get a range extender for the Cybertruck that bumps the range to about 470 miles.
@@AllanSustainabilityFan You might be able to get a range extender. If you can get it, most likely it need to be installed by tesla. Then you lose at least 1/3 of the bed. Seems pretty impractical to me. And Tesla might decide to never make it.
I’d be very afraid to do stuff on uneven roads, when my car is 4 tons, poor suspension! I’m assuming that’ll blow out pretty soon on the Hummer.

@@4literv6 Even better, they ran an 11.3 quarter mile with 33% battery charge. All runs were between 11.0 - 11.3, no matter the state of the battery charge. No prepping or pre-conditioning of the battery either.

Lars the chief engineer for ALL of tesla said he loves having a boss with an engineering&physics background who he doesn't have to dumb down ANYTHING for.
Also him&Franz admitted it was their side project design that is the final ct design(not elons fever dream as has been so widely claimed.
They both admitted to building a clay full size model and as soon as Elon saw it he commissioned the first prototype with a 90 day deadline(Lars said it took 93 days to build the first ct. 😎

I did expect the Cybertruck to win easily but I must say I’m still kind of impressed with how fast the 4k kg competition machine got of it’s place.
Disconnecting steering wheel from the wheels means someone can kill you by hacking your car while driving behind you. Or a stupid software bug can kill you. That's anti-feature.

The Hummer running solid 12's with a low limiter and being one of the heaviest production vehicles ever if not the heaviest, is super impressive. Edit: I don't care who won or what you think is better. I'm simply stating that a vehicle that heavy running 12's is impressive.

In Spain we have a new expansion in the law which increases the maximum weight of the vehicle you’re allowed to drive with the regular car licence from 3500 Kg to 4250 Kg.

Actually, i think the drag race was pretty impressive from Hummer side. We all know Tesla brags about its 1\4 mile times, of course they made sure it accelerates like rocket. But the Hummer still was relatively close and extremely fast

Off the line power has more to do with traction control. The Tesla shouldn’t be able to hook especially with non slick tires. Traction control makes all the difference
Well it is an Electric afterall so it would be harder to not make it accelerate quickly lol
Teslas engineering is far superior. GM just piled on the power with enormous electric motors but still lost by a significant margin.
The reason it's heavier is also due to inferior engineering. Even though it has a battery nearly double that of the Tesla, it can't do anywhere near double the range. The Hummer would be fun to own as well, but it's bested in every way by its bullet-proof competitor.

Isn't it awesome how thr CT has had time to review its competition and modify accordingly while the Hummer is a deliberately built offroad tool that will likely be more durable if used for its intended purpose. The brake test is crazy awesome.

It's always useful to have side-by-side comparison data to get a sense of the car landscape, so, thank you for putting them up. What I think you can do differently/better in your videos, is to add a length bar as a percentage of the benchmark, to show what is higher or lower than the other (like when they do tennis player match statistics) like at 2:40, which is a more intuitive way of making sense of the data at a first glance without having to look at numbers just yet. When you have the floating numbers above the cars, put them in them in a percentage-of-a-circle, like at 2:43?

I know HP represents POWER in the units “horsepower” whose metric system version is called Watts.
Below that, you got the metric units for TORQUE which it is N*m whose imperial system version is called lb*ft
