As long as you give it the humble understanding it’s built upon a throne of lies. Kratos canonically isn’t even powerful enough to have done this, he’s nothing more then a demi-god with all powers albeit to Greece removed *he even confirms it in-game, so there’s absolutely no way he could’ve even stood toe to toe with baldur when asgardian gods are supremely more powerful then Greece’s*.
So it’s pretty much the best and also the worst continuation of all video-game time lmao. As long as and only as long as you completely ignore the fact they gave our god who once didn’t need plot armor, plot armor. They would’ve been better off just saying Kratos infinitely scales.

Kratos deserves this. He really does. He can never change the things he did and what he became or really ever atone for it. The monster will always be there, he says as much himself. But in the end he chose to forgive himself. I'm sure the visions are still there too, but he's no longer haunted by them. He chose to give himself what he begged of the gods for all those years. The peace. The hope. In the end he chose to chain the monster for himself and use it as a force of good instead of one of destruction. He harnessed it, focused it, let it serve him. He knows he can never forget the mistakes of his past, but in the end, he chose to be better.
These new GOW games were great but I always felt there was a piece of the story missing. This dlc is that piece and for me it elevated the story from very good to the likes of RDR2, TLOU(part 1), and Outer Wilds.

The part I appreciate the most is that Tyr helped Kratos realize something he forgot about himself. That in spite of every horrible thing he’s done, he was never truly a monster. He saved his daughter by going on a journey for a cure that got Ares eyes set on him, he put himself in service to Ares to save Sparta, his tattoos are to honor a brother he thought was dead, he waged war against the Gods to avenge everyone he lost, he gave his own life to give his people hope. The things he did were unforgivable, he was a cruel, selfish man who lost everyone he cared about but he was also all those things because he had people he cared about. The original games were a classic Greek tragedy a hero with personality flaw that would undermine each and every heroic thing he attempted, his flaw was his anger.

Throughout the new God of War games, Kratos always had this aura about him. Menacing, godly, untouchable. Even as he opened up and turned into a good god, he still had this untouchable, godly appearance to him. But as he sits on that throne, thats the most human Kratos ever looked. He looks approachable now. I don't know how they did it but in that very moment, he seems to transform.

Kratos with his current self which is heard only in the pauses, Kratos with his past self about how ashamed he is of who he was, and Kratos with his future self, asking and almost challenging him to see if he will be the God he thinks he should be, one who acts in service of those who worship him instead of one who only seeks their own goals.

While I understand that you prefer younger Kratos, but when telling a story with one major character you need to develop said character and show their growth. It's not boring to show a character's progress, especially when they had accomplished their goal and was left no other purpose. That rage and vengeance he had towards the Greek pantheon was no longer since he accomplished what he wanted, it was time for him to move on and live his life. After all that bloodshed it would make sense for him to not want to go through that all over again.

    Well, where to start:
First of all congratulations to Santa Monica Studios for creating some of the best narratives among videogame history, not because the themes are extremely complex or because the story tries to surprise the players constantly, or because it is mythologically friendly, or because it has an insane level of detail and care put into it, but because the story portrayed:
the struggles of a person that gives up everything in exchange for keeping the things most precious to him out of danger and them losing them and seeking vengeance to repair that hole torn into his soul, rampaging in ire blaming others for his mistakes and later after judging those he deemed guilty and destroying literally everything in his path feels empty inside; but through time, he finds greater purpose than what he was designed to accomplish in the first place, founding a family, tying bonds with welcoming people, growing into a better understanding of himself, and culminating that understansing in coming to terms with his past mistakes, and giving himself the chance to retrieve confidence in himself, that he can do things differently and take a more righteous path.
I know it might sound ridiculous to claim such story be relatable, but it is, because we as humans are in a constant process of understanding, both of ourselves and what surrounds us, and nothing is set on stone. Real life mistakes truly can prove more challenging without godly powers, but pondering and reflectiom can aid in overcoming even the most hopeless of situations. We all are more than what we seem to others, and even to ourselves, and that aspect of humanity is, in my opinion, represented to great effect in this saga: villains (the greek patheon, Odin and his closesr descendants), heroes (Atreus?, Faye), antiheroes (Kratos) all have their sides, none of them are driven buy what they appear to, even the greek gods are somewhat empathetic towards mortals; even Odin's morivations, although selfish, are just to understand his place in the world besides being an objector other beings worship.
"You have always being more than what others saw". One beautiful quote as what implies is probably that Kratos was more than a killing machine, that since the beginning, Santa Monica saw the potential for Kratos to become much more than he or the fans ever saw for himself or loved about him.
This entire Shakespeare-based monologue truly brings forth the power of self knowledge and partially what makes this scene so great is the fact this is the first monologue Kratos has done , the first time he faces himself psychologically.
I'm glad more and more awareness about psyque through bildungs romance is being raised through videogame media.
Thanks to everyone that took their time to read my comment. Have a wonderdul time; remember: You are more than you see

The most interesting thing about Kratos story arc is that he has the most deepest character arc in gaming history. No, this game is proof it's not an argument anymore. He literally came from Tartarus, twice, been through the greatest challenges greek and nordic mythology could offer, and not only stood up for the challenge, he was able to reedem himself from the pain and suffering he been through.
Kratos lost his wife, his mother, his daughter, his brother, all the spartan soldiers because of the gods greed. No ordinary man would be normal after those losses. He was a maniac after this ofcourse.
What I love about his story, is that every bit of his character been built and shown through every bit of GOW games. And in this game every little detail is pointed out, the captain in the hydra, the nostalgia of Helios, the immerse goosebump scene where he tries to fry Helios,, and Mimir appears. You all remember this is something the old Kratos would do right? and now, it almost cost both Kratos and Mimirs life in Vallhalla. Then his upraded version rather burn himself alive, worthy of the god's title.
Every word has so much raw emotion, heavy feeling, and depth. And I like this kind of storytelling, because pain is easy to portray, but to use passion and pain trying to create something valuable is the greatest, most impossible thing to do. Something joyful. And something to hope about.
Santa Monica did it again with GOW 2018, GOW Ragnarök, and with this DLC. And it won't be over I believe. He has still some questions to answer, some challenges to face. And it can't come soon enough. Every bit of his story is immersive.

He’s not a god of war. There are no wars of peace there are no wars of hope. War is a tool of conquest a way to take.

One of my gripes from the original game was that tyr wasn't fleshed out enough. Can't believe they were saving it for the dlc.

What they did with Tyr in this DLC is magnificent, this DLC made clear the duality between the deities of War between both mythologies.
As one can only be described and portrayed as the most vile and despicable god of his mythology, who took it upon himself to bring Kratos to his worst version. The other is portrayed as the gentle god admired by his people, who in the end helps Kratos to become his best version.
Both being the final boss of the installments and symbolizing a turning point in Kratos' life. I can only stand up and applaud at this level of writing.

Tyr is a Final Fantasy: 14 player. Able to switch classes and weapons on the fly. 😎
