Complete respect after hearing about your accident . Most people would have lain down and complained about their lot. You are one of the happiest people i have seen and are enjoying life to the full .
I love how you go out in the storms. I to love going out in the forces of nature. I can't do it anymore, age and disabilities make it impossible so I feel like I'm with you on these adventures. Thanks for taking us along.
I'm sorry to hear that you have near constant back pain, but I am very very very thankful that you have pretty much fully recovered from your car accident. I am always excited to watch your new videos especially your outdoor camping adventures. Thank you so much for letting us all share in the experiences that you have. Strength and Honor
Every once in a while you see a person who is enthusiastic about just simply living life, someone who finds just about everything in life intriguing and fun, You are one of those people, it's always an inspiration when I find people like that, good stuff brother!
95TurboSol Hey there brother, thank you for your kind words.
In life, it's what we make it and to some that sounds hokey but it's true.
Take care of yourself and be well.
- Luke
Man CZcams has shown me one of the most pure souls and I'm happy to see someone enjoy life and it motivates me to try to get something outta life myself
Good story of courage and intestinal fortitude. I fell into a open elevator shaft. 35 feet and landed on top. I think I am the only guy in history to survive this kind of fall. You are strong luke!!
Wow... and OUCH! GM. It looks like you're supposed to be here. : ) Going through trauma like that certainly does give one a different view of life yes?
It must, holy crap dude 35 feet. No way it didn't hurt. Did your attitude change after that
Wow you were lucky, so pleased you recovered from injuries to bring and share with us these superb camp adventures
Just watching your older videos Luke. First time I heard your story about the car accident, and your back. very moving and emotional story brother. Happy your still here with us. You're my favorite youtuber. Life without a little TheOutDoorGearReview would suck! Take care bro
I'm so sorry your back was broken, but what an amazing recovery you made. When I watch you marching along on your adventures, I'd never have thought you had that happen to you in your youth. You are high on life and so refreshing to go camping with. :D God bless and keep you always. Too bad you couldn't wear the rain fly to keep you dry.....
I just want to say how grateful I am that you take the time to film these videos. You are one gifted dude when it comes to editing and making videos. Keep up the outstanding work! You're an inspiration to us all!!
Thank you so very, very much. I really appreciate your kind words.
I'll keep them coming!
I am so sorry you have daily pain. You certainly do not deserve it. That was more than a broken back which is bad enough but the additional internal injuries sound horrible. You are an awesome young man. And good luck to you.
people always worry in new zealand when i go and want go camping in winter, the time of year we will get snow and rain etc, but like you i enjoy the nature/elements specially the snow!!! love your videos keep it up!!!
Thank you Rhino!
Have fun, be safe brother.
- Luke
I like how Luke gets exited when he will be camping in harsh conditions, I feel the same and I'm homeless. We must be weird. 🐻
I am a backpacker but fighting cancer and your video really cheered me up. Thank you.
Jonathan my friend thank you so much for commenting and for letting me know you enjoyed the trip. You made my day man. As for your fight with cancer, I want you to know that my thoughts and energies are with you and your family. Be strong, stay positive.
IAM a twin my sister is 5 minutes older! We are 74 years old, I love it!!
74 years old and doing the CZcams thing. Hope you's are in the best of health.
If you watch his videos and don't immediately think of a young Les Stroud then you must be blind. Great video!! Keep up the great videos and I also love a good storm!
More of this Luke - getting cozy in the storm you do so well.
Luke you haven’t changed a bit my friend. Always enjoy watching your overnighter and reviews. You are a very positive and happy person. I’m so happy for you and your family. That’s the way to be. Wish you all the best. And I always look forward to your videos. Thank you so much.
Great adventure, and thanks for sharing your story and how you have overcome adversity, learning how to daily love and enjoy life. How you deal with daily back pain serves as an inspiration. Keep hiking my friend, and don't let go of that good woman you found.
Hey there Survivalist, thank you for the kind words my friend.
Means a lot my friend.
That's an amazing story bro. Wow! It's even more amazing that you can do the activities that you do and hump the back packs that you pack. May God continue to bless you and your family.
12/31/19 : 7 AM. I just finished this wonderful video. And I'm so happy that you discussed your back issue. Last year I couldn't even hike without Demerol. I don't usually take pain meds. I hiked once/week. And then is when I absolutely had to take it. The pain meds would last maybe 4 miles, and that was it. Man I hurt so bad that I questioned my sanity for being on the trails. I'm pretty much a day hiker. But I carry all ten essentials which are quite heavy. I've seen some day hikers in the Smokies with just a water and snacks. I can't do that. In an effort to lighten my load, I've resorted to using a child's mesh school backpack. It didn't help so I stopped last hiking Spring after attempting to do Indian Grave Gap and almost passing away. I'm working on getting myself fixed. Turns out my back had a break in it that had healed on its own. And I had developed a curvature. So much pain.So right now, I'm tore up from the floor up. My personal physician and a Chiropractor have been working with me to try to correct my issues. I'm using a back brace now. And soon I'm going to try hiking in it for a short hike to see how well it does. I don't know whether this is the end for me. I hope not. I'm gonna take it easy so I won't reinjure myself. I'm so encouraged by learning your story and seeing all of the fantastic journeys that you make. Blessings of Yah, blessed be He, upon you.
This guy has to be the nicest guy on youtube. Really makes you feel like your there with him. Keep up the great work.
Joseph Houghton I really appreciate that brother.
Take care of yourself and be well.
- Luke
Man you make the best videos. You are always happy and upbeat, I can come home after a bad day at work and watch one of your videos and be in a good mood. Thanks for helping a nobody to have a great day!
***** Thank you so much my friend.
I appreciate the kind words.
Take care of yourself and be well.
- Luke
Thank you for all the awnsers. I did not expect you would read all the videos at the same time. Sorry to keep you busy for so long.
schlaznger I have to agree this guy always has a smile on his face and is always positive and upbeat
hello nobody
I agree . Definitely makes great videos. I just started watching about a week or so ago. And haven't seen one video I did not enjoy. What was the name of the tent . Seems like a simple design. Keep up the good work .and thank you for sharing with everyone.
Virginia, Beautiful country! I was at Blackstone Virginia 1965. I still remember rolling hill covered with white flower blossom of dogwood tree ! I enjoy your video and share your rough life experience, and admire your positive attitude !
I waited till it was cold and rainy to watch this video. It's as if I'm there with you. Fantastic.
Bobby Harper Thank you Bobby!
I hope you enjoyed it.
- Luke
Awesome video my friend! You don't just talk about gear and review it in your backyard like so many other you tubers do. You actually get out there and do it! Thanks for taking us along! -Woody
Thank you for noticing the effort that goes into these videos. I tell ya, I love it! I love the gear, I love the trips, nature, etc.
Thanks again.
- Luke
Thank you so much for your vids. I'm disabled and miss camping. Recently watching you I decided just to erect a tent on the front lawn for a weekend to try. I got a 7ft teepee tent. To me, it was still an adventure.
There is nothing like the sound of silence. When camping though silence broken is welcomed when it's rain or snow. Great trip, Luke!
God had his arms around you in that wreck. So thankful you're able to do all you do. Love all your videos and the Wolf family😎
Broke my neck, leg, wrists and foot in a motorcycle accident. Hiking and camping is my therapy. Glad you came out well also. Yeah, daily pain but no pills anymore. Just dealing with it. Love your channel!
i also wrecked my bike back in september broke 3 verts,9 ribs ,my radius, ulna, humorous ,shoulder blade collar bone and sternum and collapsed a lung, hoping to be able to still backpack
I just finished watching several videos. You do a nice job with them. Thanks for sharing your adventures with us. Not sure how much fun freezing rain would be to me. I will be watching more.
That was a heck of a story. Glad you were able to overcome the injuries and live the life you love.
Thanks for taking us on this trip, I really enjoyed it. We are all lucky that you can walk after that accident, otherwise we may not be watching these great videos right now. Power to you friend.
love your clips, love your gear, fantastic attitude...the way you get so much satisfaction with such few things...thank you.
Going back and watching these old videos. Seeing how far you’ve come, hearing that story again. Very inspirational!
Thanks for chatting around the fire. Wonderful stories, adventure, and life.
Thank you for watching and commenting Lou! - Luke
You are so positive! Its very refreshing to hear! I love storms aswell and would love to camp in one one day.
+Mariel Flores-Ponce Thank you Mariel.
Take care and enjoy the storms.
- Luke
Thanks for this. I am watching this while sitting at my desk at work just waiting until I can make it out. Thanks again.
Loved seeing the wood processing. Fi rebuilding is my favourite part. Like to see more axe and knife work :-)
Hé Luke! I just found your channel a few days ago and watching all your videos from the fist one and I'm now at this one. Really loving it, can't wait to go camping again or go for a long hike. I heard you pronounce the name of that sausage, it's a Dutch sausage from the northern part of the Netherlands mostly. "Met" is like grinded pork meat ( neck, stomach ), with salt, clove, pepper and some other good stuff. Worst literally translates to sausage in Dutch. Well don't know if you read this but there is probably someone who does! Anyway, I'm going to watch the next video. Cheers from the Netherlands.
Old Bees nests make great tinder!!!! Goes up like a shot....
Hi Luke, I really appreciate that you always focus on safe practices. You’ve taught me so much. Thank you! Watching in Nov. 2021. 🌟💫
You are a remarkable person and have a wonderful outlook on life. Great videos brother!! Thank you for taking the time to make them!!!
The distant views of you sitting by the fire at night are very cozy and endearing. Please try to add one every time you are able.
Howdy Luke, I just had an opportunity to watch this. I don’t think your story was depressing - rather, I think it’s inspiring. Reminds me of my own earlier life experiences, though admittedly later than yours. Keep up the great work! Strength & Honor!
Always Ready!
I have been researching the AT and stumbled upon your channel. Terrific videos and perfect for my new outdoor interest. Glad I found you.
Really great Video Luke! I'm almost done watching all your overnighters, and I have to say they are so so great! You are just so a calm and relaxed Person, it's just fun to watch your Videos. Definitely Keep them up! But oh man the Story about your back, is horrible. But luckly you are able to walk, otherwise you couldn't have done all these amazing Videos. All the best, Tim
***** Thank you very much Tim.
I really appreciate it my friend.
I wish you all the best.
- Luke
Again this is a great adventure video from you bro, great introduction on gears, trips environment and so on. Very enriching man! Nevertheless, the part which you had shared on the accident was feeling painful however i believe that had brought you to a next level in life. Strong believer in something always happen for a reason. Arrrhoooo bro!! Awaiting for more videos on your outdoor adventure trip!
I can't hike anymore but enjoy watching those that can. Keep it up. Good stuff.
I keep finding more winter adventures! Very cool!
I love how you organize your adventures: intro, loadout, actual, after. A standard which others should follow. I like to wear a beanie to bed even in the summer. Where I like to camp is usually above 10,000 feet and sometimes near freezing at night but 80's at midday. Happy holidays Luke!
You got to love those temperature changes.
Thank you as always brother. Happy Holidays to you as well.
I always find myself watching your videos before I head off the mountains. Great stuff, Luke! Be well, brother!
TitoOrrego Sounds like a plan to me my friend.
Enjoy yourself and take care.
- Luke
My goodness I knew the accident happened, but I had never heard the story. I just now watch this episode to hear exactly what happened to you! It was a great story, because you actually survived it. A miracle Luke! You are a true hero, most people would never even think of going on the adventures you do‼️ thank you so much for bringing us along on your adventures! We love you, and Mrs. Outdoor Gear Review‼️ 😃
more storms, more wind, more cold in your tent all comfy just grabs me over and over - love what you do and post mate
Thanks Dean! WoooT!
Luke I’ve been following you for a few years now, I didn’t know until watching some of these older videos about your back injury.
I’m in a somewhat similar situation, not nearly as debilitating as a broken back.. but I recently dislocated my knee pretty severely. As a nurse, I am on my feet for 12-16 hours a day so the recovery has been slow and painful at times.
This was all right before Christmas of 2023, and fast forward to today, now I am planning my first solo backpacking trip.
You are a huge inspiration to get me back out there!
Great video psyched me up because I am planning my first hike on the AT in late November. Starting at Delaware Water Gap and hiking south about 30 miles. Trying to do this on a budget as I may not do it again at 72 I am starting late.. Shopping for my tent now have most of other gear and clothing.
Warren Davidson Go for it young man
I am glad you made it through your accident and kept your sense of humor stay safe and healthy God Bless you
Inspiring story. I have back and knee pain from a car accident. Not as severe as your accident, but I thought it would limit hiking and camping. Thank you. Keep the videos coming.
YES. SILENCE....it blesses, calms, enriches....Nice to see you enjoying it Luke!
You've definitely shown that with proper planning , gear , and expertise knowledge that, what potentially would be an emergency nightmare scenario for one unprepared can be experienced in ease comfort and with an enjoyed spirit of adventure! Thank you for posting.
Thank you SixString. An awesome trip indeed. Time for the next one. ;)
Excellent video. Looks like some serious fun.
I've noticed that in several of your videos when using a ferrous rod that you push your striker towards your tinder. This is actually the method that most people use. Try leaving your striker stationary right at your tinder and pull the ferrous rod away. This focuses all of your sparks right where you want them and keeps you from bonking your tinder with your striker hand and scattering it. Great videos man, I have become a big fan! Your channel rocks!
I'm a winter storm chaser myself, I can dig where you're coming from. Usually I go to the PA/NY border, lots of snow for snow shoeing. Last time out was a near blizzard, totally crazy. Cold, 13 degrees before the windchill. Winds at 30+, it was actually pretty doggone miserable. Flashlights failed, canister....forget it. I did get a fire going. Scariest part was the 3 hour drive home which took closer to 6!
Hey man, that's too bad about your back. But you have a very good attitude. Rock on bro.
Brother that sounds like one intense adventure you went on. Love it!
Brother be well and take care.
wow, dude! Thanks for writing back. God bless you and keep it up! You're doing a great service.
Hey Jonathan,
How are you doing brother? As for writing, I try to answer every message I get. For me it's about respect; you took the time to write, I can do the same. ;)
Be well and take care of yourself.
So, once again, I'm late to the party. Great videos, Luke. I really like your enthusiasm, and Vim. I am watching several of them since I found your channel. I love the outdoors and camping also, but I am in the North central US (0 degrees for the high today, with -25 wind chill) so a little too cool for me in the winter months ;) but spring is just around the corner! Stay safe, my friend.
I recently found this channel. I had no idea his videos went back this far. 😮
I love to be out in the rain. I loved camping in the rain. We had a pop-up. I would walk in. Love you videos.
Thank you for sharing your story. You are a blessed man. Seriously! A Blessed man!!!
The story that you just told us about your accident it allows the ones that came in afterwards subscribing we'll get to know you better and also appreciate you more for what you do and your tolerance is mind-boggling I know it's something you have to live with every day but wow
Evening buddy from England. Great video I always like to look back on the camp, s you have done. ATB Andy
When I was younger my husband and I went hiking/camping in Scotland with 3 kids under 10, we had to carry enough food and all our gear for a weeks camping. My pack weighed 65lb and my husbands was 80lb. I was so pleased when we stopped to eat because our packs got a little bit lighter lol.
Love your videos a lot. The coffe, the food, and your stories. I learn a lot from you. Thanks.
Luke, you gotta mix up that rice with baked beans sometime. The end result is GLORIOUS, a real taste to savour.
If more people had your outlook on life, this country would be in great shape. Caught up in their own victimhood, they have no self-awareness at all, and how they treat those around them. Strength and Honor are definitely You, Luke & Susie in a nutshell. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I really enjoyed watching this video Luke..Actually this is the first one I'm watching but I'm looking forward to do this again. This really made my day.You are a doing this very good. The gear looks great and the camping spots are excellent.I am living in Belgium for almost 3 years now.We have gone for several campings but they were mostly a one day and not overnights..Hope to do this myself soon.Be safe and keep going.Greetings from Iran :)
Aziz Yarahmadi Greetings to you my friend.
Thank you for watching.
Be well and take care,
- Luke
Can you believe you're still getting comments on this video ? What an incredible story ! Hope you're doing better after this many years . Best wishes.
Another great video,i love all your overnighters, have watched them all!
Another video you should make is a camping on a budget where u go into lets say Walmart and see how much 100$ or so on will buy you.Keep up the great videos!
Oh and i very much enjoy Listening to your stories that you tell during every trip, best wishes!
I have the golight shangri-la 3 as well. And i found that if you set up the tent then take the footprint/bug net and take it off half the stakes at the entry way it makes a sizable vestibule. Happy adventures!!
Excellent suggestion there Trent! Makes perfect sense. Thank you.
Wow, good story, well told! I had a health scare earlier this year...Makes you realize how good is to be well. Very entertaining!
Brother, you are right about that. I'm glad to hear that you are well!
It's 2020 and a couple of months ago, I packed a couple hundred pounds of quartered elk (2 trips x 4 miles round trip = 8 miles total) out of the PNW mountains in my Gregory Baltoro 75 that I've had since 2008. That pack is still a BEAST!!! 🙌
Back in 2011 i was injured while on a trip to China and ended up with 2 fractured vertebrae. I had to run through Honk Kong airport like that to make a connecting flight and it was killing me. I was determined to make it home. Once home I saw the doctor, got X-rays and found out about the fractures. I had to sleep with my upper body in a 45 degree angle to ease the pain. You definitely had my attention telling your story. Still gets sore sometimes.
I also like camping in a storm. it makes you feel nice and cozy
Greetings from South Africa Luke....love your vids. keep it up!!!
Philip Goets Thank you Philip.
- Luke
I love your tent It looks massive. If i went on a hike with my dog I think she would like it too.. This is one of my favourite videos. The pace is good, not too fast and very informative.
when I'm camping out on my land in the back woods of Kentucky I eat alot of jerking and rabbit. It feels good to get away on my 102 acres of land. good job Luke!
Your videos are always educational and fun to watch.ATB, Jeff
Wow dude great story thank you for sharing with us all. Definitely earned my respect. I have an uncle with a crushed disk so he knows your pain lol. Can't wait for your next video.
Thank you brother. I'm definitely looking forward to our next adventure. Hope your uncle is alright.
Another fantastic video. May I suggest that you create a clearance around your fire pit, say about 18 - 24 inches. You can even use the leaves on your fire. Its Boy Scouts 101. Also, if you are building a fire in a fire pit you might want to conserve your portable stove for when you really need it, say when its raining and you are inside your tent. You really don't need both unless its for demonstration purposes only. For a dollar you should have a poncho on you at all times, if not a large 55 gal plastic bag. Prepping 101. :-)
Been watching for years now love the videos and the ones with Luke junior the yes man 🤣 he loves to say yeah and yes
Great Adventure the only time I have ever gone camping in the rain was by mother nature having a good laugh lol
Always break the thick end of the log first ,that way you always have enough leverage, leave the thin end till last.
Hahaha, "Was it good for you?" That's golden.
***** Haha I hope that it was good for someone!
- Luke
Thanks again for another adventure!!!
Thanks again champ - your story captures me!
Dean Williams Thank you greatly Dean.
- Luke
that rain sound so relaxing put you to sleep
I love you, brother man! I'm glad to see you survived your trip into the woods!
I love you brother! :)
Man I wish I was half as happy as u are u are just one those people I could only pray to be like thank u for your inspiring videos goodbye cruel world
I love these movie-like videos of yours! Keep them coming.
Cool vid, I too just came back from 2 day trip at the AT, NJ. I did about 20 miles... No rain but little snow. I too enjoy harsh weather condition as you do. Thinking to buy Hilleberg tent soon so that I won't wet my inner tent during set up and the break. Glad that you are hiking after the accident. The God has given you a second chance... To enjoy his creations. Cool vid mate~
I am unable to understand what kind of a person would like to dislike this video. It's just weird that some people think it is worth a dislike.
