    As far as I'm concerned, the rocket incident with the Zombiemen is to compensate the lucky Baron telefrag, and no one will be able to convince me otherwise.

      This was the only map I couldn't get 100% kills on in Sigil 2. Tried a few times, always run out of ammo for either a last cyberdemon or a last baron or two I left to clean up. Damn you Romero! hehe. Also Decino uses ammo way better than most.

    TNT: Revolution and Sigil 1 showed me that Cyberdemon looks especially menacing when put in dark area with bright red background.

    I did like the final area seeing CyberDemon in the dark with ton of Red Candles around which is really cool. It's a fine map I say. Really fun with Berserk Punch Baron's around.

    You made this map look so much easier than it actually is. I also really hated the blue key elevator; I'm not good at two-tapping Cybers, so I preserved plasma for when I really needed it, which meant I couldn't just run through the rooms and needed to slowly plink everything down with the Shotgun, one shot at a time while I waited for the elevator to go up and down. I also saved that horde of Barons for the end, and while I had a couple BFG shots left, they grouped up at the entry in such a way that I likely would have gotten killed if I ran in with the BFG (didn't have much health left either), so I had to repeat that process again. My successful saveless max run ended up taking over 50 minutes; I'm a slow player, but geez, it shouldn't have been remotely close to that long. A map I otherwise would have liked a lot got soured by that elevator area being such a drag for me, if only there were some more rockets to use on those doorway blocking mobs instead... At least I know for next time to not be as stingy with plasma.

    This is probably my favorite map of the episode, it was quite fun and quick with some relatively easy to find secrets 😅

    I actually kind of like sigil 2 better than sigil 1, there's more development with the design throughout, maybe not so much with the difficulty. Romero should make a megawad, and change both environment and difficulty as it goes, Lord knows he has the talent to do so, he's the godfather after all.

      Sigil felt like a bunch of "hard" maps thrown together. Sigil 2 feels more like a cohesive world. It's much more refined.

    It's cute to think I used to consider E3M1 unbeatable as a kid in SNES back in the 90s, and now we have this beast of a level. Would've turned it into a super nintoaster! Lol

    I spent forever on this map cause I decided to make Sigil II the first wad that I'd start pistol starting with
    Didn't know about the Supercharge into Invuln secret until the very end so I couldn't get quite as creative with routing as you, but I did successfully two-tap the Cyberdemon with my own scuffed strategy.

    The fight with the Cyberdemon in the maze area was so dang iconic.
    I'm not sure if there was an easier way to take him down, but I shotgunned him to death after many and many deaths from blast damage (Hurt Me Plenty)

    was thinking right before the end that the level needed more zombiemen!
    loving the aesthetic of these more than anything, and it does look like more chaingun and rocket ammo would be nice, but then hard to tell with pistol starts I suppose - knowing you will face a lot of barons in DOOM 1 stuff, rocket conservation is key to me, not a fan of punching, but then I'd punch more imps and such

    This map gave me a lot of trouble. I found the BFG and tried to use the weaving strategy to kill the Cyberdemon as I'd seen in your videos but couldn't get it down. I was about to give up on killing him when i spotted the invulnerability and shifted my plans. It took me a while but i eventually managed to grab it and take out the big guy, it felt really good! I beat the map on that attempt too, it was great.
    Then here I see Decino just grab the invul for fun more or less and kill the Cyberspace without it 😅

    So, a fun fact about making your first level the last being a general best practice: The first game made in this fashion was the original Super Mario for nintendo, afaik. The reasoning was that you'd hone your mapping skills in by the time you're finished with the game's maps. And not only you'd want to give the absolute best first impression and taste of the game to your players, but you'd also want to deliberately introduce all the most important game mechanics in your first map/level.

    This map put me in the bin. I rage quat. Once I found a decent way to deal with the cyber in the maze and found out how to get the soul spheres, the rest of the map was still intimidating and hard, but doable.

    I'd call this the big boy map from Sigil II. I used the Invuln for the last Cyberdemon too. Don't think we really needed that many Barons in that one room though.

    Well crap, I didn't find that BFG in my blindrun either. I had to leave six barons and that last cyber behind to finish.
    Yeah, I agree, E6M1 and E6M2 are not good starting maps. I also didn't care for this map, but maybe that'd change with the BFG in my aresenal.
    Also, that baron telefrag was delicious!
    11:46 Yes, I saw the chainsaw in my run. Although it's very hard to see in this video. Eight whole frames at 1:25.
    Also, the last item placement is a very odd choice. A berserk right by the exit? Must be a health boost for continuous play. Not visible at all in this video, but it's right at the end of the torches to the left when the lift is down at 14:00. And you can relax, after that baron telefrag, all I saw was perfect rocket placement and three zombies go out in a glorious gib bath. ;-)

    That last cyberdemon has to be a reference to Dio's demon mascot, Murray. Watch the music video for Holy Diver and look for the silhouette of a demon in front of fire to see what I mean.

      It feels the other way around in my opinion. The first SIGIL is a masterpiece whereas its sequel starts off with quite some duds.

      @@decino - I couldn't agree more. SIGIL 1 feels like a Doom episode. SIGIL II feels like a SIGIL-1 -themed "Ha, try this!" challenge from Romero to the online community.

      @@decino Agreed! Partly because starting up Baphomet's Demesne with Hate Machine blaring at you is THE best WAD opener by anyone in ages, but mostly because Romero still had some restraint back then, so the difficulty felt more like a natural progression from Doom I, with a few unusual design quirks to really help the mapset stand out. Here he's gone full bore into harder difficulty, and so things like limiting your movement and damaging floors, which were fun and fairly unique gimmicks back then, get over done here to the point of tedium.

    I'm a casual when it comes to DOOM, even tho I like to play UV often nowadays compared to however I did in 2021. But my lord did this level kick my butt sometimes! The end of it is what really got me to freak it tbh; cyberdemon jumpscare in that room before the exit for sure...

    I read the comments before watching the video and was really surprised that everyone loved this map when I absolutely hated it. Turns out I never found the invuln, plasma *or* the BFG. Turns out missing half the weapons turns the map into a grind!
    Still hate the caco platforming though, even if this is probably the prettiest map in the set.

    Hey, decino. Love your work with Sigil 2.
    I have a question. I have always used a chaingun to take out Cacos. This seems very efficient since the chaingun quickly put the Caco in a pain state. So, why do you and other top rank players seem to rely mostly on shotguns to end the life of a Caco?

    The way I'm playing through this map has made it so much harder. I'm low on all ammo after doing right first (the canyon bit) and the elevator bit. So now I have the maze with the cyber and there's the second cyber in the main start area. I'm sandwiched between them with not enough ammo. I'm shocked at how quick you're able to take them out. I don't know if my GZdoom has upped the difficulty, but I get hit way quicker than what I see in your play through and enemies take more to kill. I can't get on top of the maze section because as soon as I teleport up there I'm hit with an instant rocket from the cyber before I can start to move.

    Not gonna lie, this map crushed me utterly on my first playthrough. Still, a great and memorable level that presents a tough challenge for you to overcome.

    After watching the full playthrough from zeromaster Romero did a really great job with this wad, especially the later maps. It is comparable or even better than the work of most of the expert modders in the scene. But modding for the original Doom still looks painful and hard. The lack of monsters or the double shotgun makes fights very slow. He could have put more rockets but I guess that would have made it too easy for the player

    Is it just me, or is there substantially less aesthetic variety in Sigil II's maps than there was in Sigil I? The gameplay in Sigil II definitely seems to have been improved in some ways over the prior episode, but the maps in this WAD thus far all look kind of 'samey' compared to those in Sigil.
    It honestly might just be that I don't like the blue skyboxes on these hell levels, as it somehow feels a bit... incongruous. Blue skies, in hell?! Interestingly enough, blue skyboxes worked well in Doom 64's hell levels, such as Eye of the Storm, but those skyboxes were animated, whereas those in Classic Doom are not due to engine limitations.
    That said, SIGIL II is a great WAD nonetheless and a gift to us from the Master of Doom himself, John Romero. Now I find myself wondering if Romero plans to do anything with Doom II similar to SIGIL--SIGIL III with Archviles, anyone?

    I really like Romeros thinking, normaly there is pretty low chance to find the BFG, but since you running around like headless chicken, searching for 30s secret,at the start, you may find something useful just by accident ;)

    Man, the red key cyberdemon gave me so much trouble, especially when I tried going for the invuln secret without any demons around to distract him.

    From what I've seen, I'm torn between whether or not I like SI6IL II over the first one. Don't get me wrong, SI6IL II has some awesome maps and combat, though I kind of do agree with you on how the first 2 maps aren't the best. With that being said, SI6IL I had its issues with the lack of ammo, even in v1.2, some of the levels are too damn dark (looking at you E5M6), and it can get frustrating to a not fun degree, especially on Ultra Violence (seriously, its one of the few DooM map sets I prefer playing on Hurt Me Plenty). SI6IL II looks more balanced in terms of combat, ammo pickups, and lighting if you ask me.
