    For methods #1 and #3, as suggested by some viewers, instead of automating the mixer channel level (and worrying about re-routing to separate mixer channels), an easier approach is to automate the level control of a plugin at the end of your FX chain (important!) - something like Fruity Balance or Parametric EQ2 - basically anything with a gain or volume control.

    Side chaining is very important and to start to understand how to match kick and bass has many methods.First is to know lenght of kick and make kick to be in key of the whole track.Later on calculate lenght of kick in miliseconds.On that fundation you can make bass to be compressed less and have more bottom end.FL limiter is easy but first fail is no value meters.This does not help to know how many dB you reduce bass line for example.
    For trance make kick shorter and give good attack ( klick) then you will avoid problems with bass.

    Like, where do you start when you want to produce a song, is there any steps to respect to be sure to get the right things done at the right time and so on. I guess it's very tied to the producer himself but i bet there are some general stuff that everyone does the same and are useful to know (like everything else it seems)

    Great tutorial! I came here looking for a different method than the compressor one because I was having problems with it. Basically when I sidechained the kick to the bass the kick would get distorted somehow and I didn't know why. Here I finally understood why: I was forgetting to turn down the "send" volume know on the bassline. Thanks for solving the problem haha

    • @AlexGirardFilm
      @AlexGirardFilm Před 7 lety +1

      Agreed. I have made my Sub/Kick have different frequencies on some tracks. High pass my kick at 90 and low pass sub at 90. Then you can avoid side chain altogether. All depends on what type of sound you are looking for of course.

    • @electronicproducer4603
      @electronicproducer4603  Před 7 lety +3

      Interesting technique, but I would watch out for sharp EQ curves in the lower frequencies, as they can do some weird things to the harmonics. May not be an issue at 90Hz but still worth looking out for (you can see it visually in wave candy when it happens).

    Try sidechaining only the frequencies below ≈250 Hz in Maximus (or similar).
    Do this, if you have info above 250 Hz in the bass track, that you still want to be heard while the kick hits.
    Also. Make those low frequencies mono while you're at it. There's a knob for that in maximus too.

Times changed huh including the Math community and their INSANE math they let lose on our so precious plugins but always..... always nice when people sit down and explain things ! Good work ! LFO tool is good only if you produce progressive tracks or any other genre in which your kick always falls every 4 beats. For genres like future bass and trap, using an actual compressor is the better way than automating volumes since you have much more to tweak with and really carve out the sound you're looking for
