your reviews are amazing - so well explained !!!
Thanks!
Great review, love the port set up on the Orbi.
Thanks
Thanks for the in-depth review!
Thank you so much for the in-depth review. Ended up returning the Eero and getting the Orbi after watching this video! Thanks!
Glad I could help!
Thank you! Awesome useful content! Subscibed to your channel after watching 3 of your videos. I have a question and I would appreciate any advice I can get:
I have Verizon Fios’ 1 Gigabit internet service, currently running through older router Fios-G1100. I want to get a good 6/6E mesh network system such as Orbi, Deco, or eero. My question is this. Do I also need to upgrade my Verizon Router to a tri-band or the new quad-band? Since the Verizon router is also handling my Table TV connection, I believe I have to keep it and connect the mesh router to the Verizon router. Will a powerfull mesh network be efficient if I connect it to my older G1100 router?
Thanks for subscribing!
I would call and ask Verizon if they can get you some other device for your tv channels and make the new mesh your main system connecting it directly to the ONT, otherwise having an old router as your main will not be great.
Very nice video, thank you so much. I would like to ask have you had video comparing eero 6ProE with Orbi RBK763S? Thank you
Thanks. I haven't played with the RBK763S, so no way to compare.
You my friend are the king of routers. I don't know any other channel that offers better reviews and comparisons than yours. You definitely deserve more subscribers!
Thanks!
I just got 900MB internet installed, I currently have three Deco M5's, do you recommend upgrading or keeping the M5's? If you recommend upgrading what do you recommend for more of a budget version?
If you’re getting good speeds then no need to upgrade. If you want something budget friendly check out the Deco XE75 or XE5300
@@landpet whats better the XE75, eero 6+ or XT8 for a budget option
looking to get the orbs 963 or the Asus ET12. I had the orb 4200 6ghz and got the AXE5400 from tp link and had slow speed and drop off. However. I did some trobleshooting and I found out that my ethernet connection was not write and fixed it. after this I had better speed. however drop off on devices was still happening. I will like to try the Asus ET 12. Can you give me any insight?
Well 2 of my favorite routers are this Orbi 963 and the Asus et12. It’s really a tough decision between the two. The orbis advantage is the quad band capability which both delivers great speeds and still has many different bands open for WiFi devices. Asus also delivers great speeds but with one less band but does include parental controls and a ton of options (granted Orbi also has quite a bit of options once you go to orbilogin on the browser).
@@landpet Thanks for the reply! I did ended up getting the Asus ET 12, I set it up and all my issues have been resolved. No more device disconnecting or searching for network. I bought a third unit because I was used to having three units and ended up returning it due to the fact that I did not need a third unit. The two unit were sufficient and doing a better job then the three unit that I used to have. Coming from being in Orbi owner for years I was just trying to stay with them however, for whatever reason the performance was not there in my situation. Asus resolve all the issue and I am very impressed with all the options on the app and the site. Thanks for all your reviews I enjoy the Content. keep up the good work. Thanks again.
Great review! Very informative
Glad it was helpful!
If I want to import my DHCP reservations from a previous non netgear router - does the Orbi have the option to import them from a file. I can always create a file in the required format if it's not binary.
Great question but I don't know the answer. I just use the default DHCP settings, I don't use static IP values to devices.
Great review but can you make a video about the stability of the Orbi network? Have read many posts about problems with Smarthome devices or that the Satellites will disconnect very often for some reboot. So when you are using the Orbi for a longtime , the results of that would be great to hear.
Mine was stable for the length that I used it but I'll probably use it some more in the future to do a long term review.
@@landpet i have 70 ish IoT devices and they work great for the first month or two but if you ever get a power fluctuation you start to drop them one or two at a time until you reset everything
@@jslaybaugh8184 I have the problem now that my wlan disappears for a while and also the satellites are not visible in the web Interface. Than after a specific amount of time, all is back. This happens now each day.
I am using orbi for over 9 months now. It is very stable have not got a single issue. I switched from Asus AX11000 gaming router which was a mess
Back to looking at these since Im needing to upgrade and also looking at parental controls.
If you’re looking at parental controls and you don’t want to pay for them. Check out any of the recent TP Link Deco systems I’ve reviewed like the Deco XE75 or XE75 Pro or XE200. ASUS also offers free parental controls like the ASUS ET8 or ET12 which I’ve reviewed as well.
@@landpet I’ve been paying for eero 5 for 3 years now so it’s not a deal breaker
Which modem are you using?
With testing online, you are victim of different switching hops, routers, etc....
I miss fiber. 😁
well this took a while to respond to but here it is:
GPON ONT FOG420
Orbi's features is amazing. Thanks for reviews.
No problem
The Orbi range test was very helpful, thanks. Netgear support couldn't really tell me. They're all sq ft, and they couldn't really give linear distance. I have an outbuilding 100ft away. Google WiFi works across the distance but I have to drop Google because their system keeps going down. Sounds like the Orbi should stretch that far.
No problem! Range will very but if google WiFi can reach it, the Orbi should be able to as well
@@landpet I've now set up my Orbi 6E system. One span is 107 ft (outbuilding) & the mesh reaches! Orbi admin says Backhaul Status = poor, but it works. Another span is 95 ft to a satellite in an Altelix waterproof enclosure outdoors. Backhaul Status = "good."
How do you get faster than gig speeds when your ISP is slightly lower than 1 gig? Sorry if this is elementary question but I could use help understanding. :)
When do a local speed test, I’m not using my Internet speeds or the public speed test server. I’m measuring how fast the router is from one device to another within my network to isolate the router to see how fast it can go if I did have faster speeds (which I do now)
If you watch this short video, you will see by demonstration the difference between Internet and local speed test.

@@landpetthank you sooooo much. I really appreciate your videos and find them appropriately techie, but still in a way I understand! Thanks for what you do!
Idk if anyone will have an answer for me but i've been trying to figure out if my modem/router will be compatible with a wifi mesh system which has wifi 6. My modem/router has wifi 4 in it and i don't want to buy a mesh system that wont work.
If you get a mesh system like the to link deco XE5300, you can run it in access point mode. However I would try and disable the router portion of your modem/router by placing it in bridge mode or calling your ISP and swapping it out with just a modem. The reason being your main router is in charge and WiFi 4 is relatively slow to todays technology, I wouldn’t recommend that being your main router.
@@landpet so I’ll be upgrading my modem/router and if that router comes with WiFi 6 built into it, would I be able to get any WiFi 6 mesh system to get better coverage ?
Is the WAN port multi-gig? 1 - 2.5 - 5 - 10GB?
WAN on Orbi is 10Gbps. WAN on eero is either gigabit or 2.5Gbps since eero has auto sensing ports, the WAN is essentially your choice.
Not much stuff has 6e on it so useless unless your hardware supports 6e and it's WAY overpriced at the moment. I currently use the Orbi Tri-Band WiFi Mesh System RBK752 and love it.
752 works great, I’ve used that for quite a while with no issues.
landpet,
I need help. I need a mesh wifi solution that can allow a split login, one for 2.4 and one for 5. I'm currently on Centurylink and the router they provide has the split login, but the range is lacking that I wanted to upgrade to a mesh system.
I just spoke with eero tech support and they don't have the ability to have logins for each band, only one login, one password for everything, and it isn't looking great for the Orbi either, at least the info I've been able to find. I have a situation where my 2.4 wifi devices need to speak with my smartphone, but will only do so if the smartphone is on a 2.4 wifi. Problem is, if I only have one login to a mesh wifi, it's always going to pick the higher speed, 5, and I won't be able to control my 2.4 wifi devices (believe me, I've tested this out where my phone is connected to 5). Do you know if there's a mesh wifi, that's exceptional like eero and Orbi, and will allow one to setup individual logins for 2.4 and 5 bands?
Thank you for your time
vgv
If you are ever looking for a router that has options, look no further than ASUS. The ASUS ET8 and ET12 Pro (more premium) are both great options with the ability to separate the bands.
landpet,
Thank you SO MUCH for taking the time to answer my question. I was so excited when I first started researching Mesh Wifi systems, but to my dismay, it seemed like the platform was leaving old tech in the dust. Stinks when that old tech is lighting products that I just purchased in the last year or so. I will definitely check out your solution. Anything has to be better than the general Centurylink tech. They are so picky and require an 802.11ac standard. Luckily most routers I've looked at have it.
Have a wonderful day!

Excellent review. I had the Orbi and then went to Eero boy was there a huge difference in wireless backhaul speeds. The only thing that drove me nuts about the Orbi was Apple Homekit device inconsistency as well as IOT devices frequently disconnecting. Also the support from Netgear was poor. Was on hold a couple days for a long time before I gave up. Trying to stream Dolby Atmos and 4k on the Eero wirelessly was pretty concerning. Also, I had a gigabit speed and the Speedtest results were a tenth of what my wired was.
That’s very interesting. I hope there will be a Video which is testing Smarthome devices with the Orbi.
Where all of your devices connected with this separate 2.4GHz wlan?
@@sigb0y Not all of my IOT devices only some. I was in the process of transitioning them over to the IOT SSID
So you went with the Eero?
@robertrose3068 in the end I went back to the orbi after trying out the eero. Speed difference is night and day
@@techfan8457 Thank you just helped me make my decision. If you don't mind which one did you purchase?
Eagerly waiting for your netgear rs700 video and orbi 970😉😉
Hopefully I can get my hands on them, I’m excited about the wifi 7 routers.
my next 2 will be on TP-Link. Testing is complete, need to finish the video and edit.
@@landpet apparently I got myself be95 and returned it after 5 days
terrible performance and pathetic customer care
I just bought a Netgear modem yesteday with similar specs-up to 10 Gbps. Maybe I should introduce them to one anothrr. 😁
I have a Note20 Ultra that's supposed to have Wifi 6 but can't find out to get it to work.
Just connecting it to wifi should do the trick, you can also "forget the network" on your phone and reconnect to wifi
@@landpet
On all the Orbis I get about 862-ish Mbps speeds out of 1.2 Gbps Xfinity cable. 👍
I'm testing a flashed Netgear vpn router, but its killing my speed to 50 Mbps and lower. That's way too much loss. I'm better off using separate apps on my phones, which lowers speeds 50%.
Am I the only one who thinks the Orbi looks massive ? 😂 not easy to conceal for sure
That's why I went with the Eero, much more discrete.
I appreciate the disclosure but it never helps when you're making a comparison of products when one of the companies sponsored the video. I know a lot of the numbers speak for themselves but I can't help but to be distrusting.
Sure thing but the numbers are my findings, it's something I do for every mesh system. There's a large price difference between them as well so just pointing out the differences.
I gave up on Orbi after their Wi-Fi 6 RBK850 system for $1,000 that has the worst firmware updates ever. Constantly disconnecting from each other. I would never recommend them to anyone. I owned 2 of their systems and miss the RBK50 which was much more stable. Their new Wi-Fi system is not worth $1500
I haven't played with the 850, currently testing the new 860S, just finished testing it. Hoping to have the video up this week.
Don’t add chapters if you aren’t going to use them correctly.
is the timing off? chapters should be accurate.
Eero is the simplemans machine. Orbi is definitely a Netgear device. But Eero is so much more compact and simple to use as well as reliable. You would be trading reliability/ease of use for speed/features. I got an Eero because it is just that easy to plug in and play as well for its easy port forwarding and IP assigning in the app. Can not say the same for the Orbi. Netgear has always made their software more complicated than it needs to be.
That’s a good way of putting it.
💰💰💰💰💰💰🏠👆🏻🇨🇦
This video is sponsored by Netgear. Eero is cheaper and easy to use. Orbi is great but it's costly. What's best for you?
It just comes down to you. My internet speeds are now 5Gbps up and down so most mesh systems aren't good for me. Orbi is a better choice for me between these two but again it really depends on your situation.
Eero 6 plus sucks. Just got it yesterday and it has disconected 4 times already😡😡
Really?
@@landpet yeap I took it back to the store and got an asus router and it's been a beauty so far. No disconnections at all😁
omg me to disconnects Daily at least 6-10 times a day and my echo dot and fire stick in the back of my house goes out like every 20 minutes especially if I'm playing XM or Pandora. I only tried EERO because my wifi company had a promotion and my Orbi was a dinusaur. so, although orbi is expensive as heck, I just don't have the patience for eero and have way too many wifi needed products to stay on the phone with tech support or constantly rebutting.
Thanks for the in-depth review!
