Athadu and Okkadu are career milestones for Mahesh Babu before Pokiri. Athadu is a classic I think all people can really appreciate. Try that.
Nassar (Hero's dad) is one of the most brilliant actors we have. He blends so seamlessly and puts a unique aura around his character.

This movie was a great movie, because it was a slight modification of the traditional formula of commercial movies. The thing is, Puri Jagannath sir did a slight twist on the traditional commercial movie genre, by cutting back on the punch dialogues. Normally, punch dialogues and puns are the bread and butter of commercial movies, and there are extended dialogue/monologue sequences by the hero. Here, Puri sir went with the "man of few words and lots of action", which is a break from the general trend of that time.
Also, the heroine was not just an external addition and a glamor point, but an integral part of the story, with herself establishing one of the villains, and her track converging with Pandu's track at the end. This used to be a staple of Puri Jagannath's movies, he makes the female lead an important part of the story, rather than just a glamor point. (I know that this sounds a bit crazy in this age, but by the early 2000s, commercial movies had reached that point of rot where the heroines were disconnected from the main storyline).
Also, love him or hate him, Mahesh Babu was able to sell the "man of few words and lots of attitude" role very well. This was one of the reasons why people LOVED Mahesh Babu at that time. I believe that the Hindi remake of this movie was also a hit because Salman Khan could also portray the "attitude" remarkably well. That one trait was the key character point of Pandu throughout the movie, and Mahesh Babu played it very well.
If you feel like exploring more of Mahesh Babu's work, you guys should check out more movies of this era, like Athadu (2005), Khaleja (2010), or Dookudu (2011). (I would have suggested Businessman (2012), but many of the versions available online have been knackered by the censor board because they have way too many cuss words, so it becomes kind of irritating to see that).

For Mahesh.. Athadu should be the next reaction.. For director Puri Jagannath "Temper" should be the next reaction. Temper movie stars Jr. NTR where he redefined his acting levels
For Mahesh it should be either Athadu, Okkadu, Khaleja, or 1. For Puri Jagannath it should be either Golimaar, Ye Maaya Chesave, or Buisnessman.

Another most under rated movie of MB is Khaleja which is cult classic. Still feels strange how it wasn't a hit like his other movies. Puri Jagannadh and Tri Vikram, these guys were ruling TFI in those times.

If you like Mahesh Babu's movies then you should definitely react to dookudu and 1 - Nenokkadine... Dookudu is a family entertainment movie with a lot of action and good moral values... And 1 - nenokkadine is an action packed suspense thriller which will keep you at the edge of your seats... Both are great movies so i recommend that you watch both

Okkadu is I think Mahesh's best movie, so you guys can watch it but it's more romance/action than masala so it could be good too with a female reactor! The movie is considered a modern classic.

For me, this was the last good movie by Puri Jagannath. Mahesh Babu was in his element. Music by Mani Sharma was top notch. Crisp editing made this a blockbuster bonanza in the summer of 2006. I think they tried different lens/camera for those climax slo-mo shots without much CG. Commercial classic. Thanks for the memories.
And after this movie, puri jagannadh used the same formula of protagonist who is a police, becomes a rogue under Disguise in an undercover operation. He used this twist so many times in his further ventures, which was somehow saturated.
