    Great idea for repurposing jugs! I think to make things easier, instead of cutting out the metal can, you can just take a Sharpie marker and write the seed type on the jug. And can use rubbing alcohol or something similar to wipe it away if reusing it again. Thanks for sharing!

    Can white non-opaque containers work as well.? I have about 8 of them and hope they work as well. This is the greatest idea I have ever seen and I'm eager to get started

      Seeds don't need light to germinate, but seedlings definitely do need light. So you need containers that let light through. Translucent containers work (such as in a milk jug), or clear plastic.

    Can you do this if you live in apartment? My apartment has a little patio outside and would love to grow my own veggies.

      Absolutely! Just remember to transplant your seedlings into pots, so they can grow bigger.

    I left mine with top off. if I do put a top after watering, can the plant still breathe? what exactly is the protocol for the top in any of these grow container styles

      I find if I leave the lid on the jug, the container dries out too much, which is not what you want when germinating seeds. These jugs are not air tight; air gets in through the cut and taped area. Once the plants start leafing out, you can remove the lid of the jug. Just keep an eye on things to make sure the seedlings don't dry out. As the seedlings get closer to transplant stage, open up the jug so there is no top over the plants.

    Hi!! Can I do it with milk cartons? It does has the same effect as the plastic jugs? Thanks!!

      I've never tried that. You must have some ventilation, so if you try it, poke some holes in the top half of the carton.

    How do you water them? Just remove tape and re-tape or water from the top?

      You shouldn't need to water. Make sure the soil is well wetted, plant, seal in the container...and a mini greenhouse is made that holds moisture and heat in.

    Do you keep watering after it is sealed? Thank you!

    • @Proverbs31Homestead
      @Proverbs31Homestead  Před 2 lety +1

      No. If the soil dries out, you don't have a good seal on the opening of the jug.
