Can I have a les Paul
Great guitar to say the least. Own a 79 standard plays killer and cant find a guitar that will keep up with it and i went threw many. Great video
You get a like on this video for superb playing. I really could give two sh*ts less about tool or a Les paul. But your playing is much better
Well done Sir, Great Demo/Effort on your part, thank you.
The guitars were nice too!
You can get Duncan PU's without logo's sometimes it's optional.
Trogly, man you don’t know how much I appreciate these videos man. They relax me and I learn. Just wanted to give my appreciation.
Same. I always put them on in the mornings to get my day going the right way. Fuck breakfast TV when you got trogly.
They're the highlight of my day
Seriously, it's like ASMR for me ... but not weird as hell.
2009 - 2020: Trogly's guitar show
2020 - infinity: Trogly's guitar show, but every video is about the adam jones silverburst
When are we going to stop giving Gibson a pass with "Good Enough". These prices are sky high and the work and attention to detail is always just OK.
I’m with you on that one. The quality in Epiphone is starting to become more consistent and makes it harder to justify buying an actual Gibson
well-put!
the price seems to be dictated by what collectors are willing to pay on the open market, one could say gibson underpriced them. Only Gibson could reissue this so its not like there is an alternative for comparison. With something like this money is relative, its a ratio of how much disposable capital you have to how much you desire it. But you arent wrong, Gibson could have stepped it up a little bit more.
According to Trogly, they didn't charge enough for these.
Why is trog pushing this piece of crap!! Stop already !!
Welcome back, Troglodytes, to your daily dose of silver burst 😂😂😂
Pea green burst!. Ugh.
Adam Jones needs to let Trogly do a video on his guitar so we can see what Gibson got right and wrong :P
Yes!!
He can't be bothered
In the '79ish era Gibson "quality" was what grew outfits like PRS, Ibanez, etc.
@Spooky gnu lmfao, the intro of schism that he played is literally a bass part
@@krabuh in all fairness, the guitar plays along with the bass, in the intro
This is the kind of video for which you sit, relax and have beer or two.
Smokeweedsmokewusmokecrack.
Smoke some rock & DMT as well...
Or three! L-O-N-G video... but MOST appreciated ☺️
6:47 The font on the poker chip looks like the difference between Helvetica (vintage) and Arial (new) fonts. Once you see it, you can’t unsee it.
Such a long video yet I will watch it all
Pop some popcorn and enjoy!
I did!
@@Trog ughhhh
Trogly probably knows more about these than Adam Jones
I can really tell how much effort went into the playing demo, massive props Trog!
Nice job laying all of this out. I have a 1979 Silverburst that I bought in 1981 from the first owner. I remember being bummed out years ago when the split in the top showed up, and the guitar "yellowed." It's fun to see how those are now thought of as desirable evidence of the natural aging of the real thing. To this day nothing else feels like the neck of this guitar, and the tone is amazing. Keep up the good work.
You lucky bastard 🥲
Damn I'm really early this time. Great of you to do this, Trogly!
This man's knowledge of Gibson guitars is staggering. I learned so much here. Great channel!!!!
Catching up on your older episodes, enjoyed this very much!
Thanks for bringing these silverbursts in the Trogly spotlight. I vividly remember seeing my first LP Custom silverburst in 1983 at Daddy's Junky Music in Boston. It was glorious and way out of my beginner (at the time) price range.
Underrated silverburst user: James Iha of the smashing pumpkins
i was just thinking about that!
Great point
yesssss underrated songwriter too
Love his silverburst...however, he's a pretty shite player.
@@JamesBrown-sr6cl like doyle I think from misfits he reminds us we don't have to play the best to have fun and be in a band.im not the greatest but I love music scince I was a boy and have fun fidling with the drums and guitar .those grunge and peer chord guys inspire me that not everyone is hendrix... Wow that dates me
I’ve waited for this for decades
This is the best video you’ve made so far in my opinion!
Trogly, this is such a great review/comparison.. I have done this with vinyl, where you have an original pressing, a later pressing and then the reissue, much nerdy fun to be had.. stumbled on your channel by accident at the beginning of the pandemic and you have definitely helped keep me entertained and contributed to my sanity.. I know they’re not your thing but would love some bass reviews or comparisons, thanks again.
I honestly don’t give a fig about Tool or Adam Jones, but I appreciate all the work and time that went into producing this video. I always learn something new and cool on this channel. Thanks for bringing us so much entertaining content!
i feel the same, hell im not even a gibson fan but trogly does a great job making these.
I know a bunch of Tool fans that will still be talking about Tool and Adam Jones in 50years
Trogly puts more effort into his videos than Gibson puts into their relic work. They need to hire him as a consultant when making vintage reissues.
You know he’s been practicing for this demo for months. He had the Schism riff down cold. It sounded great.
Incredible review! Thank you
Lordy do I love that intro. I play it often on my old 1981 Kay bass
Thanks for the detailed review and close ups. The binding on my 2016 limited run vintage silver burst LPC is much yellower and closer to an original old one. Also the truss rod cover looks more like an old one. The more I see the AJ the happier I am with mine 😁
Love the in depth review ...very nicely done. 🤘🤘🔥💗
Really appreciate all your knowledge and geekiness 🤓. Awesome to watch
Your guitar playing has improved quite a bit over the years! You don’t need a stand-in for demos! You’re well on your way!
I like how the machine heads are the Schallers. Also, very cool background music and colorswrils, kinda erie, definitely dig it.
Man I usually dont stay for the demo but this one, you really did a great job at playing some Tool riffs 💪
Both are absolutely astounding!
I gotta tell ya I wasn't crazy about these aged silver bursts but after all these videos they're starting to grow on me. They sure sound great though.
Way to rock those Tool riffs! I really appreciate the effort and respect you put into this. It shows how innovative and original Adam's approach to guitar is. Thank you!
BTW, I heard they had to make the cases in the US because they're brazilian rosewood.
Great video, very inspiring. Your work is appreciated. Thanks Trogly.
I gotta say, your playing and that tone NAILED Adam's sound. Great job and great review
Thanks Trogly for again a really awesome show you made my day.......
Proper!!, great respect to you for making these vids...
Sounds pretty frickin awesome Austin good job! WOW your playing sure has come a long way... Gotta work that picking hand but jeez watta monster sound
Great playing in this one, Trogly! Sounds awesome
Great review man, I really dig all the Gibson models and your breakdowns are totally brilliant, nice one.
Definitely like the look and the sound of the original vintage one the best. Thanks for the great video Trog!
Awesome review a lot of money tied up here! Your playimg was some of you best rock chuggimg! Good stuff! GIBSON you need to get this guy on the payroll!
Trogly's in the HOUSE!!!
Really great to see this comparison. Gibson definitely took some artistic liberties with the Adam Jones repros 😯
I hope to see more vintage Silverbursts on this channel. I have 4 of them:) 3 x 1980 and 1 x 1981 :) Yes, the originals with the stock pickups are very chimney and versatile. Plus with lower output vintage pickups seem to work really well with overdrive and fuzz pedals. One of mine has a JB installed from the original owner and I had new jumbo frets installed as well. Doing those 2 things alone to a vintage model makes feel and sound more modern. Interestingly, one of my models also has the slightly chunkier C shaped neck profile. These guitars do have a crazy unique sound to them with tons of character. Thanks for the in depth review!
I'm so in love with the guitar
These silver bursts and the buckethead guitars are some of my favourites to watch trogly play, he seems to just thrive on them.
Great comparison. I’d kill to nab an early 80s silverburst. Amazing instruments. One note: the bridge pickups are the DDJ Distortions, hand wound by MJ. She was asked to do them just like the originals she did for SD in the 80s. Gibson also used a Dimarzio pot like Adam has for the bridge humbucker. Overall they are really cool (pricey though I’d rather get an original for the money). You should try to get a hold of the Jerry Cantrell Wino model. I’m drooling over that one.
Not sure which one like best. I want one. You seemed to enjoy playing them. I enjoy most all your post. But, this one, this one seems special. Very nice. Thanks for sharing
Almost bought one of these but went with a regular Black-Beauty CUSTOM VOS.....and I am glad too ! CUSTOMBUCKERS RULE !
Makes me miss my 79 Std even more. She went the way of the broken neck and I have never played her equal. Just something about that guitar that was special and was never the same after the neck problem
I wish Gibson would actually hire trogly as a consultant for custom shop guitars or just new builds in general.
So true. Trogly knows his Gibsons backwards and forwards.
You have some awesome guitars Trogly.. especially those Spotlight specials.. I bought a Gibson book back in the late 80s and discovered those things and I've been a big fan ever since
whew that double guitar toss VOS/Worn cut! hahaha!
That's some brass ones Trogly, god bless you!
God bless ya Trog... Thanks for your vids! No matter what...
I dig how you pay homage to Tool tastefully . Great production on this one!
The ultimate Trogly video!!! Yes \m/!!
Wow. That VOS sounds really good!
Edit - Watched the whole video. Great vid Trog!
During my lifetime, I think I dated a few women who had the VOS treatment.
😂 better than aged and signed I guess 🤣
@@Wargasm644 😂😅😁😄🤣😆😎
Gibson history well documented. Great working and playing Austin 🎸😎
78 and 79 les paul customs are awesome guitars 🎸
Very entertaining indeed. Thanks!
Excellent video!
you know when single letters on the poker chip are being scrutinised that you're listening to a true boffin! Go hard Trogly, love it :)
Great demo playing on this one 🎸
I never knew the R on the swich changed. Had a 79 standard since the 90s. Thanks still learning bout PLs
Hey man, I enjoyed this video so much! And I am not even a guitar player, and also not a Gibson expert. But your passion for Gibson comes through a lot and this is wonderful to see. I hope you will get a job at the Gibson R&D! Cheers from Romania!
Man that actual vintage 81 sounds nice.
"you aint got the jhones tone cause you aint got tha foam!" that was good
This episode was like playing that old kids book game where you spot the differences in the pictures. I never would've noticed the different Rs on the poker chip.
An hour of Mr Trogly at 10 pm?! Darn it I have to sleep!
I love silverburst les Paul customs now
Welcome back, chocolate ice!
Fine work sir!
Nice Tool tones! A very convincing Jones impression.
Crazy, man. You're just nuts! I dig it.
I’m addicted to this channel. I don’t even own a gibson guitar 🥲
Great video Trogly. Thanx for really going the extra mile with this one. Me? I'd buy the vintage and switch the pickups to Adam's specs. I only know that because you took the time. Cheers from Australia.
my jaw dropped at the black light portion. absolutely wild. (Very unfamiliar with this test with vintage, so it was new to me.)
Also Brian RIPPING Gibson on basically doing a shitty job -albeit very politely- was hilarious. i was dying. lol
and it didn't feel like 48 minutes at all.
All your silverburst videos have me Jonesing for a Silverburst lol (pun intended) . . Actually your videos make me hate myself for not buying the silversburst custom I saw at a pawn shop some years ago for$800. I just saw that Gibson and Adam Jones decided to redo the 13 stolen guitars with a special headstock appointment. Can't wait to see what it is. Keep up the good work, keep on rockin!
I dig customs.keep bringing us these nice gibsons
Originals did have one-piece tops here and there as well. I lucked out and had three of 'em. Also sometimes there would be a burst on the tip of the headstock as well. Sometimes not. Adam's guitar has the original ceramic disk caps on the pots. There's a photo floating around. And once they got rid of the volute, they also fazed in mahogany necks. My '79 was maple. My '84 was mahogany.
Getting into that, even giving it a little arm windmill after the big strum, nice one beautiful guitars that you have many for sale.
This is prob one of my favorite les paul colors
Great job Trog!!
You should note that the VOS is wired Modern and the AJ signature is wired close to vintage/50’s....(tone pot lugs are reversed from vintage in the AJ sig)
Honesty, the vintage sounds best! Cheers!
Cool guitar for those Tool fans... I don't know much about the band noor is their music my thing. Glad you did this though, thanks.
Adam Jones said the silver burst finish had metallic properties that gave a unique tone. Oh boy. The stuff we convince ourselves of!!
Lol!! That comment is so true and hilarious!!
Trogly... you do some good camera work,,kudos
If I'm going to spend that kind of bread for an axe, I want new and pristine
Ha I knew you knew the guy on the inside of that heist. All things Gibson Trogly be.
One thing that always stands out to me is the fret boards on vintage guitars are always leagues above. The new ebony is very grey and almost dusty looking, all the ones I've played are "scratchy" feeling. I do recall they used to stain a lot of ebony, but not anymore. Just like you said, mother of pearl is always better on vintage.
The guitarist from Everclear also plays a 79 Les Paul.
Thanks Man! this guitar obssed me loll
Honestly I love the beat up 85 the most
I dont like that they didnt age the wood a t a l l on the custom relic. you can clearly tell it was just mocked up, and has gone through no actual ageing, that really cheapens it
But they got people to spend $10k on it!! Frankly I think this is one of the worst aged guitars I have ever seen. That neck paint work looks like a kid did it! Gibson is really counting on it's name and the hype far too much these days.
I need one of these in my life.
Very nice comparison, I like the sound of the 81 better
dude first reallly!!!! woooooohoooo
