      It turns me off when a seller doesn't list price. List the prices sellers..... And don't say if one has to ask can't afford it. "A fool with their money, soon depart".

      I wish Van Bortels actually understood that. I'm actively looking for a FEW different aircraft, but every one of their ads is "please call". That is immediately a warning sign. I've got money burning a hole in my pocket but if you aren't going to list a price in the ads, my money goes elsewhere.

    • @craiglibby1224
      @craiglibby1224 Před 5 lety +20

      That is Van Bortel's MO. They never publish prices unless it is an older used or non Cessna model. They either want you to connect with a sales person so they can establish a relationship with you (called 'forcing sales through contact'), do not want their competition to know their prices, or remove the 'customer disqualifier' psychology element whereby a potential customer can't just shop price. Those really interested will call. Those that are not (tire kickers) won't.

    • @alexlevy
      @alexlevy Před 5 lety +44

      Craig Libby unfortunately as someone who’s entire world is retail pricing and customer acquisition, this is counter intuitive and is costing them way more sales then it’s making them. Long gone are the customer relations components of sales people. In the modern world, people need instant gratification when it comes to pricing. Could you imagine car dealerships with no advertised pricing?
      This is an failure of epic proportions. It doesn’t create tire kickers, it invites them.

      It always drove me crazy too. The sellers do it to make money. For example if the owner says that he wants this plane sold for $350,000 the seller is going to try to sell it for $370,000. It is just for them trying to make more money

    • @mrscreamer379

Anyhoo, the price of an aircraft is easily resolved with google. This dreadful aircraft is an eye-watering $750,000. I'd be getting a DA42-VI for that kind of money and staggeringly the twin with retractable gear is just as fast and MORE fuel efficient. My wife and I almost bought a TTX last summer. Someone got their deposit in right before us though. : ( Anyway, it was a fantastic airplane! Easy to fly and not overly complex compared to our Cherokee 180. In many ways it was easier due to lower pilot workload. It was FAST, slippery, and had amazing climb performance. For me it was as easy to land as the cherokee also. It’s the best airplane I’ve ever flown, hands down! P.S. Van Bortel needs more videos like this! The quick walk-arounds are nice, but this is fantastic!! Still in love with the TTX!!!! (Also, please include prices in your listings! We are not going to call about every aircraft listing. Seeing a price right away helps potential customers refine the list of potential aircraft they may purchase. Please include prices!)

      John Collins you’re watching these videos because you like these things. You’re a little upset that you can’t afford them, and maybe wish you could, but since you can’t you just spit venom at people who can? Despising others for having something you yourself want to have. I’m guessing if you had more financial means you would just give it all away so you weren’t “the evil rich guy”. Few things are more pathetically hypocritical than envy. Don’t be that guy. My brother-in-law owns an Eclipse 500 and a Citation. Do I make him out to be an asshole because he can afford something I can’t? No. Because that would make me the asshole.

      John Collins it happens. So you’re learning to fly, that’s awesome! Keep plugging away. Every hour counts! You should be getting close to that check ride! Unless you’ve already checked that box, then congrats!!! If you have any questions I have tons of resources and recommendations that got me through! I kept at at and got my private in airplanes, and instrument and commercial in helicopters. And I’ve flown a fair diversity of aircraft. My mission has changed so I’m no longer in the market for a Cirrus or TTX. Getting a light sport weight shift trike instead in a few months. Light sport is a much more affordable avenue as far as training and day to day costs go, but the aircraft can be pricey compared to some of the perfectly good but aging Cessnas and pipers out there. However, there may be a light at the end of the tunnel... there is currently a proposal being considered by the FAA to expand the light sport category to include aircraft up to 3600 lbs, so you would be able to exercise sport pilot privileges in smaller GA aircraft. That would be a big advantage to aviation giving access to less expensive aircraft to sport pilots! And nice Camaro by the way!

    I was torn up trying to decide between the Columbia and the Cirrus G2. Wound up purchasing a G2 mainly because of the rarity of the Columbia 350 (I didn't want a turbo) and I found a very nice G2 right at my home airport. I still feel a tug of (Oh Damn-it) every time I see a Columbia or a TTX or hear another pilot announcing his aircraft type "Columbia", "Corvallis", or "Cessna 400". The parachute did play a part in my choice, and you could say it was the "straw" that tipped the balance in my choice, or to be more honest, made me not regret getting the Cirrus instead of the Columbia. The Columbia/TTX is an absolutely beautiful aircraft, I love the large tail with the swept shape, the long nose and swept shape of the windshield, and the cockpit structure styling. I think the side stick might be a bit more fun to use vice the side yoke of the Cirrus.

    Very pretty plane. But at the end of the day, I think it sadly didn't make it due to the Cirrus. And for those of you that say the Cirrus is the best because of the parachute, yes it is nice. But if I'm not mistaken the reason they originally added the parachute was because the CIrrus could NOT get certification for spin recovery. So keep in mind most accidents are pilot induced so you need to fly the plane and not rely on a parachute.

In my opinion, it is the complete package in an airplane. It can handle a variety of missions with relative ease! My preference is a center yoke but the side stick gives you more room in the cockpit. People like him are very busy, and their time is very valuable. He is not going to waste an hour calling and chatting with someone, if he does not think the price is "in the ball park" of what he considers REASONABLE!
      And just FYI, people did not get wealthy by just _"paying anything a person asks for"_ (rollseyes). Just because someone has a ton of money does not mean they are willing to just THROW SOME OF IT OUT THE WINDOW, just for the heck of it!

    Nice airplane, well worth whatever they wanted for it. Own opinion, this'd also be a good transition from a Cirrus.

    My dream airplane would merge the flying qualities and vernier controls of the TTx with the larger, more comfortable cabin, better visibility, higher useful load, and CAPS parachute of the Cirrus.

    A T-lever throttle quadrant and optional diesel power-plant with full fadec (like Diamond offers), would have been a very nice touch and possibly saved this model, imho.

    I’ve owned a 400 for 5 years... I bought from van Bortel and I’m currently buying a TTX from them now... I highly recommend the 400/TTX and buying from Van Bortel. Blake is a great salesman, Jeff is a great mechanic, George is a great owner and Darryl is extremely knowledgeable!!! Don’t buy a bonanza over this plane. My mission is 900 miles and I make it with a headwind nonstop...

    I, too, can't deal with "call for price". Controller is full of those. If you're priced right for the market and the plane's condition, what are you afraid of? I will never call for price, be it car, plane, motorcycle, boat.

    There were some quality issues with the earlier Lancair/Columbia aircraft. The workforce was quite inexperienced and the management had a beancounter mentality. Hopefully they improved over time.

    • @FlyingDoodles
      @FlyingDoodles  Před 5 lety

      Yeah. Cessna moved the production plant and most of the employees didn’t want to move. So they lost all that experience and their Mexican plant was having issues. By the time they got it all figured out and running smoothly they were losing money

  • @CavemanGaming
    @CavemanGaming Před 4 lety +8

    When I worked for Columbia this was an awesome plane, then Cessna bought this plane and killed it. They moved the build to Mexico and had instant problems. Two aircraft had wing de lamination. They had no clue how to build a carbon plane and it showed when they took over. They did everything wrong you could. Buy a Columbia 400 before you think of buying a Cessna version.

    Didn’t go with the parachute recovery system like Cirrus, I guess it saves a bit of weight.
    This TTX looks like the most fun, but even with higher operating costs a used DA42 seems a better deal.
