  • I wanted to find a bag that I could travel with yet, when I arrived at my destination, could convert into a more professional looking, briefcase style. Sometimes I have some business to take care of at my destination. It doesn't look great to have a backpack on in a suit. I always feel like it's crushing the suit and wrinkling it.
So, I did a search for 3-way convertible bags that featured the ability to go from backpack mode to briefcase mode. I had to have enough room to fit my normal carry on stuff as well.
My current pack is a Carryology 222 and I love it, but it just didn't have the right aesthetic for me to carry it into meetings in a suit.
This is round 3. I've already tried out the Aer Travel Pack 2 and the Mystery Ranch 3-Way Expandable Briefcase and have done reviews of those.

I have one myself and quite enjoying it as a backpack or messenger bag. It keeps certain items I need close to me and the rest inside. I can use it nicely as a overnight bag too. :-)

Totally agree. It's been my daily driver the last 2 months and I'm using for travel now. it's very versatile.

Great review on bags ive had my eyes on! thank you!! if i could give you some feedback, id say to either get yourself some tungsten colored bulbs or grade the color in post to look warmer. The glare of the tile in the background makes it look like you're standing in a hospital hallway. Also it feels awkward that your framing is so pulled out -- the framing makes this video feel incredibly lonely. It would feel better if you sat down and cropped in a bit on yourself. That way it feels like we're having a conversation and not like you're talking in an empty large room. Plus, you're really handsome and you may as well capitalize on that! Finally, i love your personality, but try to cut down on the unfocused chatter -- if you arent writing a loose outline of your video already, writing one before you start filming will really help keep you on topic.

Hi Stef! Thanks for the feedback. I have actually been making it look less warm and less saturated on purpose. But maybe I'm going too far. I also wonder if it's because of my own monitor settings. I put up the subway tiles and realize it look industrial. I kinda wanted a New York City subway look. Haven't finished putting them all up though. It's shiny and maybe not the best background (I mentioned that in one of my vids) but I like it better than the original ugly paint I have. As to sitting down...I've tried that. I've watched others videos sitting down and I find theirs to be lacking in movement/energy. I feel like standing imparts more of the feel I want in my vids. Does that make sense? some of my earlier vids were sitting...
As to the meandering talking...I know...haha...I just say anything sometimes. I can definitely hone it in some. I think giving a bit of background is nice though. I'm not just a faceless corporation making reviews. I'm a real person! I think there's some happy medium to be had. Thanks so much for the feedback though. I will take it to heart. I'll do my next one sitting and see if I like it.

I am between this one and the AER Flight Pack 2, what was your final choice between these? I am inclining more for AER just because the quick access pocket and the YKK Zippers, I do not like the plastic teeth of the zippers from Topo.

I ended up keeping both, but if I had to choose, I would pick the TOPO because it was a briefcase first, then backpack. I already have a bunch of back packs, so it doesn't make sense for me to have the Are as well. Also, for me, the TOPO was actually a bit more comfortable. As far as water resistance, I used the TOPO in the rain and snow in Peru and my stuff stayed dry. I do love the quick access pocket of the aer, but the TOPO had quick enough access. Also, it fit a bit more stuff.

highswithlowe thanks man! Did you see that Topo released a Premium briefcase? I honestly don’t see the difference between the premium and the one you reviewed.
