they ain't cheap. but you can't get real good wool for cheap anywhere. Hell even base layers are super expensive these days.

Appreciate all you guys sharing your thoughts on this product. I personally want to see what others claim is the best that works for them so maybe if I choose to invest, I at least have some data to start with. I want to see products from every end of the spectrum. Thanks again.
Filson, Sleeping Indian, King of the Mountain, Empire Wool and canvas. These are all quality wool companies. But they all have rough wool. Weatherwool is the only soft to the touch wool on the market. That’s the one major difference between them.
As far as we have been able to determine, Fabric that met WeatherWool specs was simply not available, so we made it ourselves. And of course, woolen fabric starts with the sheep. So the first step in making WeatherWool Fabric is acquiring raw wool selected with extreme care from America's top sheep breeders and ranchers.
I am familiar with lots of other woolens, and will just say that we LOVE to have WeatherWool compared to anything else. The more people know about woolens, the more they appreciate what we are doing.

Looks like fabulous gear. I want the pants, poncho, anorak and hat. Of course I can't afford any of it right now. Maybe some day. I could make my own I guess and have the gear to do it but it still wouldn't be as good. I spend a lot of time in the woods. I live in the Alaska wilderness but right on the shore. I spend more time on the water. It doesn't get impossibly cold here but the humidity is always high. It feels colder than the Dakotas sometimes. You don't generally get a large amount of exercise on a boat deck, especially at the helm. This stuff looks great for that use. I can see myself wearing it for winter kings! That can be damn miserable work some days. I wouldn't trade it for the world though. When the day comes that I can afford some I'll be ordering it up.
You’d want the All around jacket w hood. That is perfect for what you do.

30 years ago went I came to north Bc Atlin I was all in wool the tip of my toes to the top of my head ..people will said to me do you know the fleece and all that stoff is superior.. Today they may were wool those people...wool PROUVE it self for me for all my life ..trust it ,,,noting more ready to adapt to any weather

I like the product. A lot. But at that price, I'll never own one. Not even on the outer most possibility of my radar. Good luck with it, but I think you've got a very narrow target market. Sounds great though.
I'd agree. I just don't want to be the guy pushing budget stuff. Everyone is doing that. I want to show whats available on the high end side of things for the people that have the money and invest in quality outdoor gear. There is a ton of options for cheaper wool. You can get Columbia Gallatin range stuff for WAY cheaper. But the performance is crap in comparison, and I hardly ever wear it.

Every garment has its strengths and weaknesses, but we believe serious wool is best material from which to make All-Purpose Outerwear, and we love having WeatherWool compared to anything else. You might be interested to know that WeatherWool (the Anorak, mostly) is being put to some serious, real-life testing with our Military in Afghanistan, and has won a lot of respect. should have come to nz. swandri have been making annoraks for the best part of 100 years although today they are outsourcing the manufacture to china and have swapped out the 100% wool liner for wool rich they are still pretty good.
the original swannys were double layer 100% wool and waterproof. Wool vents itself and thats its beauty of wool it has a broad range of temperatures before you have to take it off.
Swandri is super nice stuff. They make a variety of great products. But they aren’t really known for high end wool. They make a lot of synthetic stuff. And fleece.
I sigma 3 survival School. Swanndri trade mark comes from their wool annoraks. I expect winter wool is a knock off copy a swanndri although swanndri has a special weaving process was patented perhaps maybe 70 years ago. So I hadn't looked at their products in awhile so I went and took a look at their website.They have changed a lot. All their clothes went from looking like hardcore outdoor clothing, to some kind of flannel lumbersexual style of clothing. Almost metrosexual looking. I wouldn't wear that stuff in the woods.The wool shirts they had were red and blue flannel. They had one bush shirt that was nice. But it isn't the same quality wool as weatherwool. Its a cheaper grade of merino. Not my style. But some people would like their stuff. And they still make a ton of synthetic products. Also I had friend that were on the Alone show that used Swanndri, and they complained about it a lot. It's okay stuff, but filson is way better. And I think weatherwool is better than filson. Just my two cents.
Sigma 3 Survival school - yea you are right they employed an english designer and are now made in china i think one of the top fashion house.s had some imput . Esentially the company exists in name only. its a real shame because if they were selling the original Swanni made to the original spec,s their wouldnt be a gap in the market for the pretenders.
New zealand when I was young probably made the best outdoor gear in the world mainly because our society revolved around the outdoors. The companys become victims of their own sucess and were bought out by multi nationals. Another company that suffered in the same way was Fairydown who made probably the best sleeping bags in the world in their day but now have gone the multi national way.
If this company is making good stuff I hope they are successful. This type of garment has saved countless lives in nz over the years. i haved spent a number of below zero nights in the forest in relative comfort.
yeah it is a shame. they had some amazing gear. I first learned about Swanndri through Ray Mears. He is a big fan of them. But they have gone way down hill. Too bad.
About the cheapest wool garment you can get on the market today is the Lester River Boreal Shirt. It's about $300. I own one. And it's made of cheaper wool blankets. Not a great wool material at all. Mine sits in the closet all year. The weatherwool anorak, has more in just wool cost, than the boreal shirt, because of the quality difference in the material. You can't really compare anything on the market to it. But you can't really find a name brand wool jacket for less than 400-$500. Its just the nature of the market. It's expensive if you want real good wool.
This is pure marketing..As all youtube video reviews are... You cannot knock the Lester River wool shirt. To me it's worth it weight in GOLD!

We decided to make WeatherWool because we could not find any other company that was taking their woolens as far as wool could go. It seems everyone else cuts quality in order to cut costs. We chose the opposite approach ... Always pure-American and always the highest-quality we can figure out how to make. We don't ever want anyone wearing our clothes and thinking there is something better.
It's a big kick for us that even the experts we worked with to develop our Fabric were surprised at how well it turned out.

How is the fit for lager dudes? I am 6'5" with a 7' armspan (yes I'm built like a gorilla). Do they offer custom tailored coats? I just don't want to spend $600 for a anorak that is too short for me.
They are bigger than sizing. I can wear a medium, large, or xl. I'm 6'1" 200 lbs. The XL is a little big. I think you'd be fine with the 2xl. They have those in stock. And believe it or not, it's perfect for that windy california weather. I'm not kidding when I say I wear this thing in 80 degree weather sometimes. Temperature regulation is amazing. They have pics of guys wearing there stuff on the beach in Cali. Straight up. It's crazy how versatile it is.
and yes they will custom tailor one. But you will have to wait a while for it.

I'm 6'1" 200 lbs. And I can wear a medium, large, or XL. I primarily wear my medium, it fits a bit more snug.

Yes. This is stuff for people out in the elements for a living. Or people with the budget to buy the highest performance American product they can get. Everyone is selling low grade blanket quality wool. I wanted to show something really high grade. It’s simply the highest quality wool on the market today. Go read their process if you have time.
oh and you can buy weatherwool material. you probably could make your own out of this material if you wanted. Contact the owner. It goes for like $40 per yard.

We make it "from scratch" ... starting with raw wool selected with extreme care ... because fabric that meets our requirements is simply not available otherwise. All the comments on price .well an item is worth what someone is willing to pay for it . I like the product and what it offers but I can't justify paying that. I'll go with Lester River or Fred g asbell and layer . I would however pay around 400 to many other products on market for that price
Hard to get super high quality for cheap. This is the finest top 1% of merino wool you can get on the planet. Tested across twenty different variables. It’s also done in a jacquard loom which makes the weave much much tighter
They do have a $425 weatherwool hoodie. And I own the Lester River hoodie also. And never wear it anymore. It doesn’t ventilate. You can only wear it in the cold. Not good for hiking cause I overheat in it. It just has limited uses in comparison to the weatherwool. Not to mention it’s super rough in the skin and isn’t near as comfortable. You have to wear layers with it. Where I can wear the weatherwool shirtless.

Nice looking product but I do see one major problem with it other then the expense of the product. There is no closure at the neck. Yes it buttons up and yes you have a hood but your neck area is open. There needs to be something that comes across and completely closes that area off otherwise you are going to be uncomfortable especially in strong windy conditions.
That is what a gaiter is for. We sell wool ones also. That makes them more useful in warmer conditions. These can be worn in 75 degree weather and not be hot. Most wool can’t do that
