We Only Use 10% of Our Brains? 🧠 w/ Neil deGrasse Tyson

  • Neil deGrasse Tyson discusses the misconception surrounding the idea that humans only use 10% of their brains, as popularized by the movie "Lucy" starring Scarlett Johansson. He explains that this misconception originated from a misinterpretation of a statement made by a scientist about the complexity of the brain and our limited understanding of it. Despite the innocent intent of the original statement, it was later misquoted and perpetuated as the belief that humans only utilize a small fraction of their brain capacity. Tyson suggests that this misconception persists because it aligns with the desire to believe in untapped human potential and the possibility of personal growth. Through this analysis, Tyson highlights the importance of critical thinking and the need to question commonly held beliefs, even if they appeal to our desire for self-improvement and advancement.

    • @brandonbradley8480
      @brandonbradley8480 Před 3 měsíci +13

      The quote is that we only use 10% of our brains at one time. And considering just how complex our brains are, it's very feasible that we can run the body as well as think with only 10% of the brain. Especially when you take into account the fact that automated processes take up less brainpower than conscious ones. That's why you don't really think about tying your shoelaces or opening a door, just body just does it automatically. Bit when you first learned to tie your shoe laces or open a door, you have to consciously THINK about the entire process instead of just doing it using muscle memory. In other words, conscious actions that took a lot of brainpower became subconscious ones that take far less. Now what about things your body is BORN knowing how to do subconsciously? You body probably basically runs by itself.

We are too small to completely understand it. But that potential lies within everything living on our planet because it’s all connected one in the same two sides of a coin if you will. They were speaking of emotional fulfillment, and they didn't say anything about brain chemistry or 10%, but when the 1946 book "How To Win Friends and Influence People" came out, it cited their study and claimed that they had said we only use 10% of our brain potential - completely misrepresenting their statement to benefit self-help gurus.

    Based on Neil’s response, we are actually unsure if the entirety of the brains power and ability is utilized. Therefore the probable potential one could grow into may or may not be there, however, if said potential exists it exists at a probability of less than 90U=190FBU where as U is equal to utilization and in this rather simple equation is 90 is percentage of bone usage thus stating the known utilization increased by 90 percent is 190% full brain utilization 100%of known increased 90 times. Which also goes along with Terrence Howard when speaking about multiplying by 1. My results are in the concept of 1 known multiplied 90 times, which in the current model would be 1 known utilization • 90% of unused cerebral ability and functionality = 90 Full Brain Usage 1KU • 90 Percentage of Unknown/Potential Increase In Cerebral Functionality = 1KU • 90UU = 90FCU (Known utilization times unknown utilization equals full cerebral functionality) but in reality we know if we have 100% of something and increased it equally 90 more times we have 190% of what we initially started with or a 1,900 in functionality

Cool quote but no, that would likely be the textbook definition of stupidity. Insanity is a mental disorder where one does not understand or is unaware of their actions or its consequences. So really the quote is somewhat ironic, because it says insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result when in actuality an insane person would likely be incapable of even considering what their desired result is.

Like, if there are Gausses, Riemanns, Einsteins out there, then it's just a matter of the right genetic conditionsl, or maybe epigenitic conditions, that lead to grealy increased intelligence. So, as ot right now, this current idea doesnt hold the clout we think it does, but maybe in the near future, we can unlock the the higher % of human intelligence via a pill or KRISPR technology. Just an interesting thought.
