  • In this video I look at Triad Sequences for Soloing- this is Part 1 and we learn some basic ways to find and play triads up and down the neck -AND look at TWO different triad based lines -one a triad pair idea and another, the classic Coltrane 4 note 1235 triad based line from Giant Steps.

    @rufusbass, Hey man, great video. Definitely gonna practice this.
    Can you do a video talking about how to approach an r&b/funk/soul song like "Mercy mercy mercy"? I can hear what things could be played but always end up staying on the same blue (pentatonic) type lines

      Yes, the triad stuff is great to use for solo ideas and definitely great idea to start super slow-run thru all the inversions too ( in all keys :)

    Hi Rufus. Thanks for this vid. I have a question ref the descending Maj triad exercise in the first few minutes. It seems you play the descending triads backwards?? Ie. starting with the 5th, 3rd then tonic?? When I started working on the descending form I played the upper tonic, 5th then 3rd. ?? Am I over thinking this? Does it matter??

    • @rufusbass
      @rufusbass  Před 7 měsíci +2

      Hey Simon-good question-sorry I omitted to reply sooner. You can run them in the way you mentioned yes. Really the BEST thing is to try EVERY permutation. 531 513 315 135 etc etc. Then take a pair of triads and run them either with the SAME sequence or different: 315 531 or 315 315 etc etc ...Up to you and what you like the SOUND of ultimately....

    Hey! Newbie question. As you practice this over the whole neck, How are you choosing between major, minor, and diminished? My tendency would be to play all major or minor etc.
    Thanks!

    • @rufusbass
      @rufusbass  Před 2 měsíci

      It's determined by which parent scale you are extracting the triad seqeunce from. Major scale yields a different sequence of triads to say, the Melodic Minor scale...
