    Welcome back to the next exciting campaign in the Company of Heroes series: Liberation of Caen. Here I’ll be taking command of the Commonwealth’s 3rd Battalion. The British are the second faction added to the Opposing Fronts expansion and play entirely different to their Panzer Elite counterpart. While the P.E. are focused on offensive units, the British implement more defensive command tactics/units.
    Another unique feature is how their units do not earn experience to gain veterancy, but instead rely entirely on command units for a major bonus to accuracy, fire rate, and reload speed. When these commanding officers level up the bonuses they distribute will become even stronger as well as unlock special abilities for use. I’ll go into further detail in the next mission when some of these units are made available for use. Another thing to note is their roster is very limited due to their support units are building emplacements instead of mobile crews. So there are no heavy machine guns, mortars, nor antitank guns. And to top it off no there’s no Sniper unit, but instead an upgrade for Infantry Sections.
    Only units you’ll be working with here are Sappers, the Infantry Section, and the Cromwell Tank. Each unit has upgrades, but for the sake of time and what’s actually available to you, I will only explain the function of upgrades present in the first mission.
    Infantry Sections are your frontline soldiers capable of building basic defensive structures such as slit trenches, Vickers HMG emplacement, a mortar emplacement, and a casualty clearing station. They do cost more than most of their faction counterparts and move slower in territory you don’t own. This can be mitigated with the presence of an officer. With the Recon Element upgrade it not only eliminates this drawback, but it also gives them the ability to snipe infantry, for a price of course. I can’t say I’m a huge fun of this compared to their other upgrades, but it will do for now.
    The Cromwell is your standard medium tank that can be upgraded with a tank commander for better sight-range. It also has the “Flank Speed” ability to help it maneuver quickly around the battlefield making it perfect for circling around enemy tanks or speeding past heavy defenses.
    Sappers are your standard engineer unit and will be used in this mission to build your more advanced defensive emplacements such as the AT emplacement, Bofors 40mm canon, and the 25 Pounder Howitzer. Their use expands greatly later on in the game when upgrades are available.
    The first half of this mission is very straightforward and near impossible to fail. Simply follow what the game tells you to do until later on when you’re given command of two Infantry Sections and two Cromwell tanks. When ordered to take the church, order the artillery emplacements to fire at the sandbags near the munition point. With some luck this will wipe out the mortar crew and AT gun lying in wait for you. Only threats left are the several Grenadier squads (one equipped with Panzershrecks) and an MG42 near the entrance. I suggested to use the Cromwells to draw most of the fire as the Infantry Sections flank around the left side to assist from better cover.
    Be careful here, because when you enter the territory you’ve been tasked in capturing, a Panzer IV will head over to engage your forces. Simply flank it for rear shots or grab the unmanned AT gun (presuming the artillery didn’t blow it up) to make short work of it. Once the territory is taken you’ll have more Cromwell reinforcements join the fight and you’ll gain access to build more Infantry Sections from the Headquarters Command Truck.
    After being instructed to call out creeping barrages you’ll be ordered to advance to the town to capture the point. The medal requires that you secure all surrounding territories as well. With the recon planes constantly going off you’ll have a very clear idea of all the obstacles on the map. Only changes to expect are groups consisting of a Stug tank and two squads of Grenadiers that will push down the main road. Just like earlier, any tank losses are immediately replaced so don’t worry about making mistakes with them. Infantry, however, have to be replaced at the HQ truck and, just for this mission, it cannot be moved from it’s spot once deployed.
    Once they main objective is captured a Panzer IV will move in from the East of town to counter your forces. Use your Cromwells and any captured AT guns to destroy it to bring the mission to an end. Overall, very simple stuff, but I wouldn’t expect much considering it’s the first mission in the campaign. Now sit back and watch as I show you how to complete this part without losing any units. Enjoy!

      Sometimes the artillery is on point. Other times it goes way off the mark. Just a bit of RNG that can determine how good the shots are. I haven't played Supreme Commander yet, but World in Conflict I can certainly attest to.

    Here I am. Watching the entire playlist of you playing the worst and most fraustrating CoH campaign in it's entire franchise.
    Even just the first mission, you already losing one of your Cromwell from that Panther. Worse, you're fighting against the Panzer Elite's Panther which is superior than typical Wehrmacht's counterpart. Good thing is the dev actually nerf it's armor a bit.

    • @StarMarshal
      @StarMarshal  Před 2 lety

      Well to be fair that Cromwell dying was just apart of the script. Nothing could be done to save him, but I do believe they did nerf the Panther as you stated given how quick it goes down even on Expert mode.
