Great lesson! I've always loved Bukka White's music. I never knew how to slap the baby. What is that brilliant little pickup you have? I've been thinking about getting a Hot Plate for my Michael Messer Blues, but that looks like it fills the bill. Thanks for the lesson. Liked, and subscribed long ago.
Thanks!! It’s a Bartolini. Not sure they’re still made. Depends what sound your after but if it’s that magnetic pickup sound - so really an electric guitar sound then it’s good. Warm and fat. Michael’s Sixtus made pickups are good. For an acoustic sound Highlander is best but out of business. K&K is great too. I’m actually going to be changing this one for a DeArmond Gold Foil soon. Cleaner cleans and scuzzier scuzz. Mojo Pickups near me do good replicas which I’m keen on.
What an amazing song this is by Bukka. Thank you Martin for what must have been a lot of work breaking this down and sharing it. Angus
Thanks. It’s actually straightforward but the key is mixing up licks to make it interesting.
Saw him on tour here in the late sixties, fantastic.
Wow! Oh to be in a room with such a great artist!!
Old man Bukka! great lesson! thank you!

He sure does. Killer groove.
I still have the program.
We did a podcast with Mark Makin which can be found on here.
He tells a story of Bukka taking him to get his programme signed in the 60s.
