I think this is mostly the weather conditions that lead to this amount of dropshots. People who play tennis understand that playing in windy conditions is a struggle, you have to hit harder and flatter to get a decent pace to your shots. The ball trajectory and bounce is also affected and usually the balls stay low so dropshots feel very natural to play. This being said this was probably a very difficult match to watch for most
This was a mixture of weather(these matches are normally played in April/May…so the courts were as slow as you could get..Medvedev was on a heater at this point and is truly a counter punching baseline that can redirect his opponents pace and keep the ball flat, rather than rally with him joker figured his drop shot opportunities would be more effective overall if he had converted a few more he could have swung enough momentum to win.
The player who hit the first drop shot in each point (not counting volleys) won 17 out of 36 points. Not a very good percentage considering most were hit on an easy ball when the opponent was out of position.
On clay there's usually a lot of baseline play and long rallies, so dropshots can be really effective to throw the opponent's rhythm off in these types of situations, especially when they're expecting a very deep ball
Djokovic plays shite at MC(he lost to Evans this year) basically Djokovic since 2018/19 takes a almost 2 month break after AO/Dubai and Monte Carlo is his first clay court tournament and he absolutely poor in it in recent years
I would have hated watching this match. I don't go to tennis matches to watch numerous dropshots. I want to see a rally, skill and the ability to put a point together. Yeah, we all attempt a dropshot but this was excessive.
If you have another match that had lots of dropshots, comment!
Gaston vs Anybody
dustin brown use a lot of dropshot
Nalbandian vs Murray in Rome 2012
@@nicolaspalma9362 You are my new hero if it has a lot of drop shots
Every Gaston match
3:42 goddamn that one was good
Hugo Gaston played 56 against Thiem at RG 2020 but that was a 5 set match I guess.
Yeah, that’s what I first thought reading the video title
Wow, Medvedev won the match ON CLAY against Djokovic. This itself is amazing
This was before he decided he was bad on clay lol 😂
Djoko literally ran himself into the ground with these drop shots, clearly they weren't working but he was persistent, thats why he lost if IMO
This was his tactical approach throughout RG. When he got to the final against Nadal, he got punished in three sets
A lot of the matches he's lost since 2019 were because of this
That's really interesting!

Not only this match, I see way more drop shot on clays than other surface. Is it my illusion or could anyone help me explain why?

Random person: How many dropshots do you wanna do?
Djokovic: Yes
.....most dropshots "attempted".....
@Nicolas Morin When I miss a drop shot- I call it an error.... semantics.
This was like a chess ♟ game
🔥🔥🔥
Nice 😀
must be so warm
It was a dry, sunny, slow afternoon
Neither felt like running too much
They both look really tierd...is the weather hot?
Was expecting something about Dustin Brown
Such a sloppy match from Djokovic, it takes great dedication to lose to Medvedev on clay
Watch any match of hugo gaston.
lol was looking for this comment
Relly nice Drop shot . GOAT. 🐐🎾👑♥️
I think novak’s movement is pretty slow than usual. He was in bad condition I guess
Goat stuff
Lol 20 dropshots and 5 minutes left

yep, he just used this game as a training match for his dropshot technique, he would never play like this in a slam
Some of those drop shots are horrific
and some of them are amazing
Djokovic probably is the most universal player but his dropshots just aren’t that powerful
They're usually a liability for him. Instead he's figured out that serve and volleying is a better way to change up point dynamics for him
In past they were very useful but become readable. Medvedev red his dropshots here very easily, they are not even masked that good...
@@vladomontezuma626 disagree. He uses them better now compared to a year or 2 ago.
@@kakashihatake1029 But compared to 9 or 10 years ago?
@@vladomontezuma626 he didn't overuse dropshots back then because his baseline game was untouchable
Novak looks really lethargic in this video

Terrible match from both. It was like they were half asleep
you're saying dropshots aren't examples of skill and point construction?
Djokovic mistake use a lot dropshoots !!!! medvdev its not a good player on clay ... horrible defeat
All were bad dropshots
Really Bad Match
