    I used to work in the North American Head Office at Farrow & Ball. I am also a professional painter. I personally LOVE the paint. The company. EVERYHTING about it. The finish is incomparable to any other paint. Perfection 👌 the amount of colours they offer are beautiful and offers ease when choosing colours. I miss working for them. But I do love being a painter. I use Farrow & Ball paint whenever/wherever I can. Perfection 👌

    Great video! We learned the hard way though that just because F&B paints come premixed doesn’t mean the colors will match batch to batch. We painted our room Inchyra Blue-which we loved- but didn’t quite have enough. We ordered another gallon and there was enough of a difference in the color that you could clearly tell the difference when we painted. The company told us you have to match batches to guarantee the same appearance.

      That's with all paint companies, you have to mix batches to get that consistency.

    Dear James, I love Farrow & Ball! Their green paint is amazing! I watch CZcamsrs in the UK paint their Victorian home and I salivate over the rich, full colours. I love how the UK commits to dark greens! Anyhoo, I don't have access to F&B on Vancouver Island but if I could I would. This has been my fave episode dude.

    Very informative! I think you gave their Full Gloss finish short shrift - I used it a few years ago on interior walls and ceiling and it produced a stunning lacquer-like effect. My contractor didn't do a great job with prep and priming so you can see imperfections in the wall that you really shouldn't be able to - but the coverage was excellent and the sheen level can't be beat. Not everyone's taste to be sure but I think its amazing that you can get a lacquer/oil-based look from this water-based paint.
    I used Blue Ground on walls and Borrowed Light on ceiling in my dining room, both in full gloss, and the reflections from my chandelier crystals make the room look like a painting by Monet.

    I love F&B colors and I always wanted to try their paint. I don't have a big budget, but I planned it out to buy this paint for my front porch floor. I got the estate emulsion finish in a glossier eggshell. The finish is like glass. The color was Schoolhouse White and it went on like a softened vanilla ice cream (Haagen Das, not Hood). It looks good enough to eat! I don't regret the investment and I have some left over for touch ups if necessary. The only problem is, it's actually difficult to buy from them. Normal credit cards don't always work online at their website. So, I could buy samples of white, then a gallon of white, but I was unable to get other color samples with the same credit card. Customer service was like, 'Oh, sorry for the inconvenience.' I'm sure my one gallon at a time purchases weren't going to keep them in business, but... Anyway, I'll stick with my favorite Ben Moore.

    Farrow & Ball definitely has some lovely colors that cannot be replicated elsewhere! Working on painting a small home now. Went with BM Ewing Blue in the Dining Room and Kitchen and Agreeable Gray in the living room and my bedroom. It has been an absolute NIGHTMARE - as the seller painted all the walls previously in a high gloss and we were trying to paint with eggshell. This home is old and has plaster walls -so, in a year maybe, I will have Dining Room and Living Room dry walled and paint again. I will definitely use agreeable gray again as it is a lovely color. Ewing Blue is lovely but a bit light.

    I used to sell the brand Pure&Original from Holland. If you get a chance to try it, I really recommend it. It is available in Canada but not everywhere. It is a kind of boutique paint, but very stylish and great quality and finishes are more artisan like Fresco and Marrakesh. Worth the price. I love the F&B colours. When it first arrived in Canada I had a discussion with a paint guy from Home Depot and he was saying that they could match all the colours at half the price and better quality- I took it as not worth the money.

    I’ve used Estate Emulsion in my main bedroom twice: Giles Blue and Stiffkey Blue. Before one year was up, they both looked damaged: faded near the windows, in spite of having a lush tree that gives off quite a bit of shade right outside. It somehow peeled off even behind a nightstand. There were shiny patches wherever I had lightly dusted the wall off with a dry cloth. Wherever I had touched it, no matter how gently, you could see finger marks. I don’t have children or pets, yet the paint was basically in need of being repainted within one year. I discovered it was rated at the bottom of the heap out of 30 paints tested by Consumer Reports, together with a $10 per can paint sold at Walmart: PPG Glidden. Except I payed $140 U.S. dollars for each quart (needed two) and $90 for the F&B primer. I will never again use Estate Emulsion. I love F&B colors so much that I’m currently in the middle of painting over my walls with their new Dead Flat finish, which is promoted as being their most long lasting, scrubbable paint. Here’s hoping it will last more than a year 🤞🏼

    We Brits don't give a toss about what your 2 cents worth about F&B especially if you are clueless about English homes. 90 % of the insides of my home is F&B paint. Tried the imitations they mix at DIY that was recommended by a well meaning friend for the outdoors. However the imitations look cheap, bright and ordinary. So it's F&B for me even for the outside of my home. Would not trust anything else for that beautiful English finish.

  • @plips71755
    @plips71755 Před 2 lety +2

    I don’t know what is going on with the buyout but I know what it was and my experience. Something people who don’t like the colors of this British paint when they put it on our walls is - our light is completely different than the light shining on the walls of England. I know that sounds bizarre but they have very grey, dreary days especially in the winter but even in other seasons, they need the extra color to brighten their rooms. But here - say throughout the south, Florida or California - where days are bright and sunny and you have a lot of reflection off the water - some of those British colors just don’t work without a lot of thought on placement. A friend lived there for decades and said the first two years she was just so depressed. She loved the gardens but the lack of daily bright sunshine with pinks, peaches, and those gorgeous deep pacific blues of California and Florida’s Caribbean blues and Gulf blue-greens made her quite sad. And a trip made to the states to do a couple of travel pieces really drove the point home. Within another year, she had transferred back home and to traveling through the sunny south. Said she loved visiting and living in England, Ireland, Scotland, - mostly due to the gardens, but it could be too dreary.
    What I see is people who don’t care enough to take the time to actually prep. They are so use to using chalk paint, where they don’t have to do much work. What people need to remember is these paints or linseed oil paints last for decades on the walls and woods. But if you already have the USA manufacturer’s acrylic paints full of fillers on the walls

    Great review, but good luck to anyone trying to hire professional painters to use this paint. Most painters (the ones that I've called anyway) won't use Farrow & Ball because 1) they've never heard of it and/or 2) they want to get a discount for using more well known paint that you can get from Lowe's and Home Depot. I wish more professional painters would be more open minded and receptive to using higher-end paint. Everyone I've called either tries to convince me "all paint is the same" or they won't call me back for the project. It's ridiculous.

      @@BigFresh2010 It's always the painters who say "all paint is the same" who get to using Farrow & Ball for a client and soon realize they have no idea what they're doing. If you've never used this paint before, then how can you so arrogantly claim Farrow & Ball is like all other brands? Even within more common brands of paint, there are different qualities of paint! For example, Benjamin Moore has it's luxury Aura line of paint. So just save your opinion for when you've actually done some research. If you don't care enough to PAY ATTENTION to this, then it won't matter to you. However, it matters to the people who have to live in these spaces. For some homeowners, using paint that coats a wall like creamy butter, has low or no odor, AND is environmentally friendly is very important!

    • @artisanhome8980
      @artisanhome8980 Před 2 lety +7

      Update: I FINALLY found a team of painters with years of experience using Farrow & Ball paint. They did an amazing job and I now realize how important it is to interview painters and ask about their experience using different brands of paint. I will never hire a painter who believes "all paint is the same" and thinks it doesn't matter what brand or type of paint is used. I'm hiring someone with lots of experience using a broad range of paint brands. Most companies will have services and products that range from basic to luxury to serve the needs of a variety of people at different income levels. We can't sweep all products under one rug because we don't want to acknowledge better products that someone else might be enjoying. I know that a Mercedes Benz is NOT the same car as a Honda. So I'm not going to waste my time trying to convince the Mercedes Benz driver that his car is the same as a Honda when I know that it isn't. Instead of being delusional, I'm going to diligently work hard to one day afford the Benz and enjoy the luxurious that I know he's enjoying.

    I think a lot of people are being duped by F&B's marketing team. There's a lot of rhetoric behind their products that sell it more as a desirable brand but with little regard for actual longevity and quality, which is what paint should be about.
    I've heard of many people trying it then disregarding it because it caused them many problems when it came to coverage and durability.
    Basically you are paying for the name and the F&B snobbery that comes with it. "oh it's Skimming Stone/Elephant's Fart", etc etc. I don't deny it has a nice, considered colour range but unless they get real and provide a better product with all that ostentatious pomp then other paint companies are going to leave them standing in the future.
