The Power of Jupiter's Red Spot

- When Voyager 2 took the first images of Neptune, it discovered an enormous dark spot similar to the one found on Jupiter. When it was observed just a few years later, the dark spot had completely disappeared. This video looks at how the storms on Neptune and Jupiter form and why we might see Jupiter’s Great Red Spot disappear in our lifetime.

The Universe is so beautiful. What I wouldn't give to see these planets up close through the window of a spaceship.
Ali Syed honestly same
Maybe humans will have the opportunity to live that experience in the next 30-50 years.
I would settle for actual photos and vids from inside the planets
Ali Syed the closest thing to your wish is getting a game called elite Dangerous. It has a simulated milky way galaxy with all the stuff in it. Dont let yourself be fooled by the trailers or the website. If you like the wonders of space and like to travel and have that feeling of „being there“ then grab yourself a VR headset, grab the game, get yourself an exploration ship and go ! There is NOTHING closer to the real thing. I myself am out there for a year now, exploring and visiting remote worlds. Its wonderful.
Ali Syed seriously, check this. czcams.com/video/1BTWHsYSECc/video.html
Your voice sounds like the evolution of a text to speak voice.
Is it supposed to be mean?
Sandy_Roses I don’t think so I think that it is more of a complement that it is a better text to speech

Seeing the big Great Red Spot with your own eyes is a unique experience. I’ve seen it numerous times with a telescope and every time i see it i can’t help but feel scared knowing I’m witnessing something so small seen from here on earth when in reality it is a massive storm the size of earth that has ravaging through the planet for thousands of years.
What telescope do you have ?
so you need a year for answering a question?
i demand a proper funeral when the red spot finally fades
YES
Hopefully
Here i thought the storm was shrinking due to performance anxiety with so many people watching, anyone would get nervous!
🙃
😂😂😂😂😂wth
I read once that a satelite crashed into Jupiter and formed a storm which still lasts. Somehow, my 8 year old brain thought that it was referring to the great red spot. Turns out it was there for 350 years? Wow!
Marijan Yep. Well it’s been there for “at least” 350 years. We don’t know how long it’s actually been there
I don't think a puny satellite can create any kind of storm on any planet, it would be torn apart by gravity or get burnt by atmospheric friction long before it reaches the lower atmosphere.
"at least" 350 years is referring to when jupiter was discovered by galileo, he was the first person to observe this storm.
that happened 350 years ago
This is Patrick He might not actually be wrong in saying that it created a storm (although it’s definitely not the big red spot, lol). As crazy as it sounds, I wanna say I heard that same thing as well. Although if it did create a storm it would be a baby one. Either way I suppose I could just look it up and find out lol.
This is Patrick He said that he thought that when he was a child.

At 2:30, you say the number for Fahrenheit and show Fahrenheit and Celsius. At 2:38, you say the number for km/h and show the conversion for mph. At 4:52, you say "700 degrees", and show "1300*" which seems to be the conversion of 700C to 1300F, or maybe you're correcting an incorrect figure, I can't be sure.
Please pick a system of units as your preferred system and use that for everything you say. If you want to say both, say your preferred system first. Always show both the figure for both unit systems on screen.
I second that. And I'd strongly suggest you focus on the international system of units, since this is an educational video.
It's time for Americans to catch up with the rest of the world by learning metric.
sweiland75 Don’t point the finger at the people. Point it at the educational system.
@@sweiland75 Americans are taught both SI units and the imperial derived US customary units, you think they use lbs, ft, in, and yds in scientific circles?
The customary unit is still preferred for daily use because 1) it's the norm, and 2) at this point, it's too costly to fully convert to metric without any perceived benefits. These are why they still stick with it outside of academia, international trade and the military.
Primal Space is in the wrong here for being inconsistent, but US education, for all of its flaws, isn't bad in this context.

That’s a phenomenonal thing on its own to me. The red storm is a defining thing of Jupiter I’ve daydreamed about since I was a child, the thought of it being a new storm is insane. It’s barely different in age to the Jamestown settlement, yet seems like it would’ve been there since the planet came to be.
With the role it plays in the condition of the whole planet, is it expected to heat up further or start to cool with the winds calmed?
"without actually observing it". Ehm, no. That did happen (that we knew about it without having observed it), but that was until the 1850s, when it was actually observed through a telescope. Then we discovered it had been actually seen before by Galilei in the early 1600s, but he didn't recognize it as a planet.
@Cheech Bickens What a stupid argument. It's fairly common to talk about world-changing scientific discoveries from the past as "we", in the sense of "human kind". It's often not used for recent discoveries, but when we're talking across the centuries, when generations of scientists are involved, "we" as in humankind is not uncommon.
@Cheech Bickens Ah, I take it you finally got your first modem. How is this internet thing working out for you? That's great. Reply back when you finally turn 14.
@GRX ikr
@Cheech Bickens are you saying that when Neil Armstrong stepped on the moon he should've said "One Small step for me. One giant leap for NASA"?

This video would be far more interesting if it pointed out the relationship between the position of these storms on Neptune and Jupiter with the position of the Sun's dark spots, Olympus Mans on Mars etc. and compound tetrahedra. All of these celestial features are located at 19.47º north or south of the equator, the same as where the extremities of compound tetrahedra intersect a sphere.
