    My name is Joe Varanauski, I was a Soldier in U.S. Army. In 1956 I was honored and humbled to be chosen to be a Guard of the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. To this day I am still Proud to have been a Tomb Guard.

      How wonderful! I'm sure my parents saw you many times. I grew up in Alexandria, Va. -born in 1963. My mom and dad went to the cemetery weekly due to family burials there. How wonderful and special and what an honor to have been chosen as a Tomb Guard. I never knew anyone who made it but had friends who definitely tried. I get chills every time I see the changing of the Guard, and I think I've stood on those steps well over 100 's and it always makes me cry. Thank you for sharing and I hope this finds you well. You are a treasure.

    I was in the Marine Corps 1988-1992. I must say, the U.S. Army does an outstanding job guarding the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

    As an Army veteran I'm always pissed that so many people think these guards are Marines.

    A month later, in May, John Adams High School Air Force Junior ROTC Unit NY-20151 visited Arlington National Cemetery and The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Class C uniforms. I was among the Cadets that visited this secluded area of the unknown soldiers who were never claimed but had been given full glory because they did their duty with courage, respect and honor for their beloved country, their family, their home and the people.

    I've noticed they no longer drag their toes after doing the rear inspection back around. The old guard seemed to pay more attention to the precision and finess.

      They drag their toes in acknowledgement a Veteran in the crowd. It is a salute.

    Someone should do an estimate of the number of people that have witnessed the changing of the guard at The Tomb.

    • @mark9531
      @mark9531 Před 2 lety

      5 million people a year.

    Why doesn’t the oncoming sentinel have a blue strap on his right shoulder like the off going sentinel and changing NCO do?

      He is not an 11b qualified infantryman. Not all guards are 11b's.

    Бесполезное шоу.
    Особенно с этой идиотской проверкой оружия, как будто до этого нельзя всё это сделать.
    Кстати, а чего у них такая походка?
