Hey Thanks for reacting to BTS! You seem interested in them so heres some information!
You seemed a little curious about why they're so popular and what most fans will tell you its because of their lyrics and messages, they are very personal and authentic, talking about mental health, politics, bullying, self esteem, growing up, etc. (I actually wrote a whole thesis for my senior year research paper on their lyrical messaging). Their biggest draw is their music and lyrics, but they also have super amazing live performances and music videos.
You also mentioned "girls" in reference to their fans, while that’s not incorrect necessarily, they have one of the biggest most diverse fandoms in the world, and the highest percent (27%) are actually aged 30-40 years old, so fans tend to span the age range pretty evenly, they also have a good amount of non-female fans, while not the majority, male and non gender conforming people are a huge percentage of the fandom. Fans also come from all over the world, asian, african, south american, north american, etc I've talked to people who are fans from all over the world.
As far as the musical analysis as you mentioned being interested in, BTS definitely have more then enough to offer. They actually have a running cinematic storyline running through many of their videos that fans are still trying to piece together
References to political events, literature, art, philosphy, etc can also be found in their music and videos.
If you'd like something in that vein Id recommend the music video for "Spring Day" as well as the explanation video for it. Spring Day is actually protest art and was released in a pretty tumultuous time in Korean Politics so some fans at the time were even worried BTS would be blacklisted for releasing that video. Then the Korean president was replaced with the current one who loves bts which is kind of a cool fun fact.
In the same vein of political music I'd also recommend Baepsae and the explanation video from DKDKTV, and spinebreaker which also has an explanation video by DKDKTV
BTS also have some videos with AMAZING cinematography, I'd recommend Fake Love, Idol, Blood Sweat & tears
Did I mention bts also has a hand in writing, producing, and composing all their music? They do, you can even check the writing credits on KOMCA
Now to black swan, the album the video is from is called Map Of the Soul: 7 the album is based on the Psychoanalytic theory by Carl Jung, and his book about it called map of the soul. The theory states that the conscious and unconscious mind is made up of three main parts - The Persona, The Shadow, and The Ego.
The Map Of The Soul Series is the continuation of BTS's previous LOVE YOURSELF series, which is a group of three albums called Her, Tear, and Answer (fun fact: the pronunciation of Her in Korean means Weakness).
Her details the concept of Love as a "perfect entity" with underlying dark themes about giving to much of yourself to others.
Tear is an exploration of those dark undertones, in which we realize the problem with Love is Hating oneself.
Answer is the realization that "one cannot love others unless they love themselves first" The Love Yourself series Is about learning to be proud of and love who you are, and surrounding yourself with others who love you for you and vice versa.
So as Love Yourself details being confident in who you are, Map of The Soul asks the question: "Well, who am I?"
The Map Of the Soul: Persona Album showed the sides of themselves that BTS show to the public most often - the happy, fun, loving parts of themselves, again with underlying themes of being unaware of who you are as a person.
Map of the Soul: Seven details a further exploration into the psyche of each of the seven members, What is their Shadow? What is their Ego?
Black Swan Is about the shadow of art and being an artist- the lyrics talk about their fear of losing passion for music. They don’t ever want performing and writing music to become tedious or hate doing it because music is a part of them. The shadow in this case would be the fear of losing music, which is the most important thing to them.
Its a very emotive and personal song
Anyways I hope you decide to continue looking into bts and learning about them and their music,
One of my favorite quotes from someone about bts is
"BTS are deconstructing the boyband genre and turning it into art"
Its so true and anyone who takes the time to listen finds that out
If you want more info on each member I’d recommend these videos
    "BTS crash Course 2020"
"Who Is BTS: The seven members of Bangtan"

@@INF1NIT3SIN They are all very real and geniune off stage. That's also one of the main reasons why their fanbase are so passionate towards them. You can check out their Carpool Karaoke with James Corden, people said it's the best and most fun carpool karaoke ever, because of how down to earth and humble they are. It doesn't feel like they are a boyband, it feels like they are a group of brothers/best friends who all love making music. RM is nothing like a badboy in real life, he is genius who writes most of lyrics of their songs, with 148 IQ, the leader of the group and the only one who is fluent in English. He was an underground rapper before joining the band, and he is the first member to join the band.

I jst wanted to say zat every ARMY (zats z fandom name) has d/f reasons to like zm bt 4 me it's there journey messages and how zy stayed humble. There are hundreds of kpop groups which are amazing bt they started out with notin zere record label was on z verge of bankruptcy so they neither had z money nor some fancy songwriters and producers to back zem up. In kpop there are this huge record labels they are called z big 3 zy literally control z industry. There were no artist (until BTS) who won a grand prize who was outside these labels. They were cut from broadcasts, made fun of for coming from a broke label and were practically outcasts. But zey write there own music, they produce n they have socially conscious lyrics ( zy do have love songs n stuff). N don't get me started on zere storyline and meanings( there is a fictional storyline zat connects zere music videos),hidden meanings, and an actual superficial meanings(like map of z soul is based on jungian psycology)in there albums and there MVs are so meticulously crafted that even z every minor details are put zere for a reason.( I am unashamed to say even most ARMYs don't fully grasp z whole picture). This perception that girls swoon over their looks and that's why bts are fameous is so strange to me, like it's not like I can put their faces into my ear and listen to their looks? Why people think that, I don't know and will never know either. BTS has the most diverse and ethnically mixed audiance than any other group out there. Most of their fans are over 18+, survey shows that they have a big following over 25+. And there's a lot of male fans. What many fail to see is the amount of content bts have out there for their fans, how often they interract with their fans through chatting forums or by going live and answering fans questions and overall talking to them. You will hear this often, but bts fans, also called ARMY's don't consider bts kpop. That just put's them in a box and restricts them, and bts is bigger than kpop or any other genre, "BTS is the genre" - JHOPE, a member of bts

I think every artist wants to get into the American market. It’s the biggest market so it is something to aspire to. Rain came very close Years and years ago but I don’t think anyone until BTS got this far. And the door is open to others. Most in the American market want a little English to latch onto. It’s a great marketing tool and they’ve released remakes in other languages (Airplane Part II in Japanese). I don’t think most Americans are pushing them to do all English but maybe people new to BTS do until they get comfortable with the idea. Just my opinion. Stay safe everyone.

INF1NIT3 SIN Welcome to the rabbit hole, my dude! This journey to know BTS and everything they’re about is incredible! They’re dedication to everything they do is truly unsurpassed. I’ve literally never seen anything like these young men in Western music EVER!! I was never a fan of boy bands here in the US. Let’s be real- back in the day they came off as self-important asshats! And until my daughter introduced BTS to me two years ago, I still felt that way. All it took was for one of their songs to hit me at the right time and I was sucked right down this rabbit hole. We’ve seen them in concert three times, twice at Soldier Field last spring and wow! They’re amazing performers, no opener, take the stage when they’re supposed to and perform for over two and half hours.

    • @sherb9841

I mean...they’re South Korean. No one would expect an American artist promoting their music in South Korea to sing in Korean. But I get it, you make a good point about losing some of the meaning in translation. Some of their songs contain more English than others.
They’re only technically a boyband. Each one has solo music, and a distinct style of artistry. I love Suga’s mixtape - he’s a rapper. If you like that style you might enjoy his songs ‘the Last’ ‘Agust D’ or ‘Seesaw.’ I’m partial to Jimin’s solo songs too - ‘Serendipity’ is such a mood. I’d love to see more reactions if BTS is something you find entertaining. Don’t feel too pressured though! Sometimes BTS reactors get pressured into only reacting to BTS, and I’d hate for you to lose the passion and meaning of your channel in all the hype. But if you find them interesting, I’d love to see more :)
Btw, if you were still wondering, pretty sure Jimin (the one who sprouted wings) was wearing a corset. When I first saw it, I was low-key annoyed because he looks better in it than I ever will 😂😂😂.

_“A dancer dies twice - once when they stop dancing, and this first death is the more painful.” - Martha Graham_
Black Swan is created with dancer Martha Graham’s quote as a motive. This song greatly resonates with everyone especially those that are in the field of arts. Losing your passion, losing the ability or the opportunity to do what you love most is like losing the very essence of your being; of your soul. Thus, your first death.
    _(Black Swan Lyrics)_
"If this can no longer resonate
No longer make my heart vibrate
Then like this may be how
    I die my first death
But what if that moment's right now
    ?"
It doesn't matter if this song isn't in english. It hardly is a barrier when it comes to BTS or in any foreign song actually, as music is universal and there are several ways, like closed captions in videos, to easily ease that hurdle with language. People just have to be open and take the time to educate themselves with things they do not understand. It'll open you to very interesting ideas and exciting new worlds and concepts.
BTS wrote Black Swan as an outlet of their fears as an artist. 2020 is their seventh year in the music industry after their debut in 2013, and they've openly declared in the song that they are terrified that the passion they had for music in the beginning will slowly dwindle because of huge pressures (fame and success) and the lack of inspiration.
    "The heart no longer races
    When hearing the music play
    Tryna' pull up
    Seems like time has stopped
Oh that would be my first death
    I been always afraid of"
BTS is known for their beautiful messages and poetic lyrics. Their extensive use of word play (both in english and korean), figures of speech, references to literature, film and art, have touched millions of people which made them the most influential and successful band today.
In Black Swan, they've compared the feeling of an artist's 'art block or creative block' to being submerged in water and stuck at the bottom of the ocean floor, struggling your way towards finding the light; the exit.
"Ocean with all light silenced shut
My wandering feet held in a rut
Every noise and sound's been cut
Killin' me now, killin' me now
    Do you hear me?
Sinking slowly like in a trance
Struggle but it's all ocean floor
    Every moment becomes eternity."
But the time that moment happens, they are able to see themselves and reflect on what they truly want. They are able to realize in their state of melancholy and unclarity, that music has always been the sole thing that keeps them going forward. In their music, there is hope. In their music, they are able to comfort. This is what they hold onto the most and what they proclaimed their reason to continue. BTS music is made for healing.
    "Deeper
    ...
    I think I'm going deeper
    I keep losing focus
No, just let go of me
Let my own feet carry me
    I'll go in myself
    In the deepest depths
    I saw myself
    .
    "Slowly, I open my eyes
I'm in my workroom, it's my studio
The waves go darkly by in a throe
But I'll never get dragged away again
    Inside
    -
    I saw myself."
There is also another version of this song that was released first. It's called 'Black Swan' Art Film performed by the MN Dance Company (link here: czcams.com/video/vGbuUFRdYqU/video.html) this orchestral version is more in tune with the melancholic lyrics of the song. It'd be worth your time.
I hope you become more open to BTS' music and message. To not let your preconceived opinions and judgements towards -kpop- and -boybands- deter you from getting to know more about BTS' music and message.

@@oyinolubayo7079 Not really. BTS started as a hip hop group. They later became an idol group. What you mention is the typical idol group. They may be copying different genres but they are not part of them. They just use these as a style of music mainly sound. BTS have the actual hip hop culture because that is where they begun and they actually know how to make hip hop songs. And they are making their own music which is essential while most of idol music is manufactured. And they never were part of that industry only in its technical aspects. They actually fought this industry and it's rules. Their success alone is proof of this. That is why most Korean media music critics and professionals made the term BTSpop. Watch the video BTS Vs kpop by bby to understand it better.

Penny Bleta lol I have already watched that video a while ago thx tho 💜 and if I am not mistaken at the end of the video or towards it he thinks bts is kpop. And that it is hard to know what bts is but you can kinda decided what you want to call them. Oh and about what I said with other kpop groups i know that they just do that particular genre and are not part of it but the point i was trying to make is that I think when people hear the word kpop they think it's all pop music so I was trying to say that it's not only pop music that kpop groups do they do many styles and bts does have some songs that are pretty poppy lol ik that bts has broken many many barriers with the kpop industry. I also know most kpop groups are pretty manufacturers but not all, there are some groups that also make their own music and write. I think it really just depends on the company the groups comes from, i have notice groups from smaller companies seem to have more freedom with their music.

Kpop male groups are different from western boybands so you can't really apply the same standards. Further, BTS is also different from most kpop male groups so they have their own unique standards. Many fans have even said they're not typically kpop and they are so unique that koreans have even called their genre BTSpop. They started off with hip hop but they've branched out into many other musical genres e.g. pop, EDM, trap, neo-soul, RnB, pop-rock, ballads etc. They write and produce almost all their songs (with their own in-house team of producers, although there are some songs that are fully produced by the BTS members themselves). They debuted in 2013 from a really small unknown label so they really had to compete with a lot of other kpop groups from bigger labels. It was a struggle and after years of grinding, they finally got the recognition they deserve! To get to know the group better, I recommend you watch:
    1. Who is BTS? The Seven Members of Bangtan
    2. BTS // From Nobodies to Legends
    3. This is BTS: Crash Course to a World Sensation (2020)

All members have their own characters for music MV only. But on shows and interviews it's just their own personality. It's always combination 3D graphic and real places in their MVs. There 3 rappers and 4 vocalists in the group. They all dance and try to do their own music, so they can be songwriters and producers sometimes. Their songs only Korean. There only about 3 songs in English and about 300 in Korean.
If you want to know more I recommend "This is BTS: Crash Course to a World Sensation (2020)",
And MV's from official channels: Big Hit Labels, BANGTANTV. For example Bts - ON, Bts - Not Today, Bts - DNA.
And you always can find all their music with lyrics on youtube. Last album "7" have some awesome tracks in different genres.
    Hope you will enjoy!
And sorry my English is not good.

Especially after living together for nearly a decade, they've picked up a lot of similar mannerisms and are in sync in many ways... But they have very distinct personalities and qualities they bring to the team.... It just so happens that the 'cheerful one' who is known as the 'happy virus' is also the 'strict dance captain', 'consummate performer', 'secret second leader of the group' 'most mom-like if the group' , etc. So on and so forth for each member... They're real people with different views on the world, different musical tastes, different talents. They've made and continue to make solo stuff, but choose to stay together, create and perform together because they love it. And they've changed and grown over the years too..... Like the guy who used to be 'the cook of the group'... may have been replaced.

Also I just wanted to give you a quick thank you for giving them a shot even if it ends up not being for you. Too many people see something different, especially in another language, and just blow it off. I do hope you check out more of their stuff though. They are surprisingly diverse in the types of songs they produce. I understand that it's hard sometimes to read and listen at the same time. I recommend watching lyric videos for new stuff to help focus on meaning before seeing a video. But really, they put so much emotion into their words, you often get a vibe even if you don't fully understand.
They are crazy-versatile with genres (though they have hiphop roots), and there is a song out there for everyone.
If you like a rock instrumental, check out the lyric video for Persona. It's only one of the members (RM) who is a rapper. (Another cool thing about these guys is how they give each other space to shine, and all members have been given solo tracks on their albums.)
If you want to see more of their choreography, check out Mic Drop ft. Steve Aioki (which is a clapback at people who bullied them when they were underdogs).
For a softer side, there's the lyric video for The Truth Untold (it's just the vocal line).
Thanks for checking them out! They're great entertainers, but even better human beings -- speaking at the United Nations, launching a UNICEF campaign to end youth violence, and regularly donating to various causes.

I don't actually ascribe to some of the explain videos because many of them are theoretical interpretation. I guess it just comes down to checking out a few sources, reading what the actual members have said about it, and making your own conclusions.
For me, lyrics weigh heavily on whether or not I like a song, so I always start there.

If you like special effects there are many BTS videos out there for you to check out. Their official video for "ON" has a lot if great effects. Their video for "Fake Love" is mostly practical effects but is super cool! Their official MV for "Mic Drop", "Not Today", "Blood Sweat and Tear", and "DNA" have some really cool effects and shots in them as well. Honestly, their videos are just really high quality.
    Thank you for reacting!

BTS ARMY runs the gambit from teens to senior citizens such as myself.
I'm just one of the many oldest fans of BTS, at 67-years of age.
We're all inclusive, the colors of the rainbow is us, all sexes.
They are the biggest boy band in the world, on par with the Beatles.
BTS write and produce their own music; their company Big Hit Entertainment gives them free rein over all content.
The boys are prolific when it comes too music with mix tapes, and solo covers.
The group consists of three rappers- Min Yoon-Gi (Suga, August D) is his stage name
    Jung Hoseok (J-Hope, Hobie)
Kim Namjoon (RM, God Of Destruction)
Four vocalists- Kim Seokjin (Jin, World Wide Handsome)
Park Ji-Min (Jimin, Mochi, Ethereal Angel)
    Kim Taehyung (V, Tae-Tae)
Jeon Jeongguk (Golden Maknea, Kookie, Muscle Pig)
Please react to more BTS so that you can get to know my seven, talented babies.
BTS: From Nobodies To Legends, a good start.
Thank You for taking the time to do a reaction to "Black Swan"

Unclear why the obsession with repeatedly calling the world's biggest group "boyband", alluding to girls and members wearing outfits to play contrived roles, while out of the other side of his mouth wishing it was all in English so it could be understood when no effort to dissect the closed captions was made. Simply put exposing yourself to something new is commendable. Coming at it with overt preconceptions diminishes that. BTS plays sold out outdoor stadiums worldwide not so pubescent girls can gawk and scream from a football field away, but because they produce multi-genre music and displays at a high level with much of their music conveying deep messages aimed at helping people learn who they are and love themselves. If you make genuine attempts to understand BTS, ARMY (the largest fan base in the world) will be thrilled to help you.

I like watching others react to BTS because regardless of what is said, there is always a preconceived notion that a) you’re reacting to a boy band, and b) it’s in Korean so can you really connect or understand the hype. BUT ARMY is always there to share the knowledge for those willing to be open-minded.
I’m a 45 year old ARMY and discovering BTS was an eye opening experience to what is out there IF you broaden your horizons. They are unlike any other artists I’ve experience in my lifetime. Honestly, some bands hit a cord and although that cord is very real and raw, it tends to lead more to the dark hopeless side of the world. With BTS that rawness is there but also there’s hope for a better tomorrow, a better you, sustained by our own awareness of the self. That is what I love about their music.
Truly enjoyed your reaction. Look forward to sharing the journey with you if you decide to continue.

BTS is a boy group from South Korea so it's normal that they sing in both Korean and English. They're proud to portray their Korean culture so I don't think they'll sing in English only unless it's their Solo songs and covers which few members sang in English only.
Perhaps you would like to check out their latest song “ON” (turn on CC for Eng sub). Thank you!

Am very aware of that now, over a year later, lol. I think when anyone walks into something new, they have their own reservations. That's the reason we watch...to find out. Knowing what we know now...hell, even after six months...it seems like a lifetime ago that I watched this vid, but I have learned so much and become such a fan. BTS and ARMY are in my day to day life and I can't imagine it being any different than it is now. Thanks for giving them a view. They are truly amazing, and I appreciate yo thoughts and perspective. Some like to look up the lyrics first to know what the songs “speaks” about and then watch the MV with or without the subs to absorb the visual and auditory elements.... there are a lot of ways.... I only know about a dozen Korean words but have found their songs and videos are so amazing that I enjoy watching them over and over, sometimes to understand the lyrics better and some to catch all the amazing symbology and beauty and mostly just to enjoy the song. They blend so many different styles and always match the style, instrument choice, lyrics, etc to what they are trying to convey. Such amazing artists. ☮️

I have to say that not all of their fans are young girls. Amazingly women in their 40s, 50s and older enjoy their music because of their message and music. Not just because they are handsome men. I am 53 and my first video was Boy With Luv with Halsey. From there I started actually digging into who they are and now I’m a huge BTS fan. They are very humble and human. They are great human beings. I hope you listen to other songs and videos.
