Used to run into the same problems when I was in the sign business. Clients would sometimes work with arcitects or builders that didn't know (or care about) the building code, functionality, access, landscaping could block your ability to work or electrical could be near impossible. Way easier to figure out the details as much as possible with an integrated team.
