Okay, so the overflow goes back into the downspout - clever. I would have missed that and attached the hose well above the barrel. Thanks for posting.

I like that you're finding a way to harvest your ground water. I set mine up so it pumps right into a 330 gallon tote tank. Of course, after we got one tank full and used it to water the garden, the water table has dropped and I'm hardly getting any now. Now I'm looking at setting up my two rain barrels next to the tote, and having them over flow from one to the other, and then into the tote. With that set up, I should be able to harvest all the water from a typical rain. I use a pump attached to the tote, to get the water to my sprinklers. The pressure is much greater than the pressure from my water spigot.
That’s awesome! I still haven’t been able to afford that sump pump collector setup since I made this video, but that’ll change now with the new job 💰

Can the barrel to be air-tight or need to be vented?
Also I have few concerns:
1. How likely the downspout might be clogged due to reduction of size from 6 square inch to 2 square inch?
2. Without a screen, how often the barrel need to be cleaned, and for a seal close top barrel any suggestion to clean?
3. Instruction having spigot not at the bottom. Would it be better to put it in bottom and has water flush once to get the debris and dirt out?
4. Can the barrel need to be vented or can be air-tight?
I think the downspout could be clogged quite easily if it’s only 2 square inches.
Our barrel doesn’t have a screen and I had to clean it twice during the summer last year. I’m figuring out a way to add a screen.
I don’t think it’s possible to have it be air tight. The system needs to have an overflow for when the barrel gets full, and this would also act as a vent.
If you put the spigot all the way at the bottom, it could get clogged by debris unless you also have a screen in the system.

Great video. What are your thoughts on leaves and shingle gravel still being able to flow thru the downspout. Would they get clogged in the diverter or potentially end up in the rain barrel. Thanks
Thanks! It helps to have gutter screens to keep out the larger debris. Some small stuff still gets through but it settles at the bottom of the rain barrel.
Hi what do i need to get if i get a rain barrel ,i dont have a down pipe next door has ,so is there some sort of equipment i can buy to fit on to the top end of gutter pipe that's sealed thank u for ur help 👍🤗🇬🇧
I’m sorry, I don’t know exactly what you would need to make that work. Perhaps you can ask someone at a hardware store.
What can I do if I made the whole in the drainage pipe a little to big that I can see the rubber when placed in?
Do you mean that the hole in the barrel is too big and the drain plug isn't fitting tightly?

I see, the drain pipe from the gutter. Are you using this same kit, and if so, are you still able to screw the rubber piece into the pipe? Maybe you could use some caulking to fill around the hole.
I really want to do rain collection too, but apparently it’s not legal in King County, WA where I live. My neighbors do it anyways so maybe it’s not enforced, but it’s a ridiculous thing to outlaw
That’s a real bummer! I’ve heard that some places do that and I don’t understand why. I hope there’s a good reason for it. Maybe ask your neighbor about it and try it anyway?
How about the overflow?
This kit has a built-in overflow that lets the extra water continue down the gutter downspout.
