Exactly. You nailed it Torts took that team much further than any other coach would. As he did with Columbus Blue jackets the season he swept Tampa lightning first round At the beginning of the season, the two dark horse teams to make the playoffs was decided for me between the coaches - John Tortorella and Spencer carberry. (Caps) I had a feeling we'd hear from carbery. Washington Capitals just did a major overhaul of coaching and upper-level staff last year. Players like Alex Ovechkin don't die, they just smell that way Good luck 🐻
Well this was my first Flyers game in Philadelphia to see my Flyers team and we lost. I have been a fan for 52 yrs and after finally to get to be here was by far exciting for me. Became a fan before they ever won the Stanley Cup. Young goalies and some young players still have a ways to go. They did better than was expected of them. My wife and i will be back since she is from Philly. Wells Fargo is really nice Fans were great. Go Flyers there is always next year to be better.
I became a fan of the FLYERS in ‘73, I was 4 years old and captivated by the Orange and Black. Originally from Winnipeg and live in Minnesota, I’ve seen them many times but not in Philadelphia yet.
Cool. I was born in Canada and raised in NY but became a Flyers fan back in 1976 when they payed the Russians. I went to Fred Shero's hockey camp back in 1978 too. Played a few pickup games vs Garry Dornhoffer there. My first Flyers game was at the old Spectrum back in 1985. I was so pumped that I was actually going to see my favorite hockey team at the old barn. The Flyers won that night against the Bruins but it was the night Pelle Lindbergh died. Very sad to say the least.😢

Fans were really nice and had some great food all over Philly. I grew up in Chicago but I have always been a Flyers fan and Eagles and 76ers
@jgboys1 that is one of the best stories I have heard in awhile. Really awesome what you got to do and see. Pelle was my favorite Goalie. I played Goalie as a kid didn't like it at first but after being pushed around and hit learned to dish it back and hard. Even had some fights along the way but hey it's hockey 🏒 you can't be a punching bag no matter how big they are. They respect you more when you give it back in my opinion hahaha. Go Flyers

I used to play goalie when I played street hockey but when I switched to ice hockey I became a winger! Being a goalie is very cool!

I was at the game last night and you could feel how tense it was getting throughout the second and third period. It was not the outcome we wanted, but it was nevertheless a great day to be a flyers fan - was very proud last night. Thanks, Torts!
As an Isles fan, I think the Flyers and the Canes are about the only team I respect in the division. You guys historically have a good culture of hard working physcial tough-to-play-against hockey, die-hard fans, a disdain for the Rangers and the Pens. Lot to look forward to as Flyers fans, really promising season overall.

There's a reason I cheer for the Islanders but live in Buffalo, I value being around people who are actually friendly and good-natured. That being said, Leafs fans aren't exactly widely known for their level-headed, reasonable takes on their hockey team or the greater NHL.

Exactly - the Flyers were fun to watch for the first time in years, and they were difficult to play against all 60 minutes... you never knew with Torts. Amazing thing to me is that I can't name any superstars on the phillies? They don't even have a Tkachuck brother He's taking this team much further than they deserved to go! Yeah, he'd better go home and pet his dogs for a few months to calm down - but I got mad respect for this guy. 🐻
Hell of a season, hit a rough patch at the end but hockey is a game of ebs and flows, potential was seen in Boston Rangers Canes games and the team is on the course to be great. John did GREAT with the group.

Really proud of what these guys did this year! This team wasn't picked to do anything, and they were in a playoff spot most of the year. We beat most of the top teams who have loads more talent than we do right now. 14 point difference between this year and last year! I trust Briere and Jonesy to make the right moves in the offseason to make us even better. And we have a bunch of young talent in the pipeline. Lots to be happy about!

As a Sens fan but also a Torts fan.... considering you lost Carter Hart and had to essentially go with rookie goalies, pretty impressive. What has to really suck for the Wings is to know that Caps won on an empty net goal that essentially eliminated the Wings... As a Sens fan whose Sens had some very rough games vs the Wings... I can't say I mind this... Lol
I know how you feel. It's a strange feeling watching your team get eliminated but then feeling a small smile at the thought that somewhere Penguins fans were livid that the Flyers pulled their goalie in a tie game. Of course, Detroit got the benefit of a horrific non-icing call to even tie the game, but karma did them right in the end.
Like Torts said, I’m proud of the team too. Sucks we had the 8 game skid and I feel so sorry for the penalty kill. They were one of the beat in the league with a sweet 16 amount of shortys. But I give the team a big hand for the overachievements.👏👏👏They performed a hell of a lot better than anyone else expected them too. Flyers will be back eventhough it will take time. Anyone who thinks Tortorella should be fired after this I strongly disagree. He was 1 of 2 reasons we were this close to a playoff appearance for the first time in 4 years with a rebuilding team. I know he said he took responsibility for not motivating the players well enough in this kind of situation but I don’t think that was his mistake this season. The mistake was giving Coots the captaincy. No offense to him because I like Sean Couturier a lot and I was so happy for him he had such a great start to the season but he is not the player he used to be and I knew the performance was going to fade away at some point because he missed 2 seasons with injuries and it was just a matter of time before it would all catch up to him. If he didn’t have so many injures and played all of last season and the one prior, I would have gave him the C. If Couturier gets traded, TK deserves the captaincy. If not, Owen Tippett. Other than that, especially with a rebuild of course were were gonna lose some winnable games but that’s the nature of the sport. This season was progress for the first year of a rebuild. Overall, I was satisfied especially with the first half of the season. Unlike 2022 and 2023, this team was watchable. Young Beezer I’m so sorry your goal was disallowed. Whistle should have never been blown. That will count as a goal in my book. That will conclude my feedback on this season. Lets Go Flyers 2024-2025.🏒🥅

Here's my prediction. The Flyers will surge next season. They have zero momentum. They played well over most part of the whole season just to ruin everything in 2 weeks. No way they will make the playoffs next year. They wouldn't have any chance in the playoffs because they somewhat lost all momentum. It's really bitter for Detroit and the Penguins. The Penguins were clearly the best team not to make it and they would have a chance to beat the Rangers or Boston because they have some older elite players who play better in such games. It's a nightmare for the Penguins that they missed it really. I wonder how that was possible if you look at the player they have. Unbelievable...I followed the Flyers games over the season and I wished they made it but it's really strange how suddenly they started playing much worse. That's why I dont give them any chance next year. Also the Penguins as their stars get older will have trouble. And imagine the Red Wings after not qualifying maybe 7-8 years they were so close and then they lose against the worst team Washington as they get a free win against the Flyers. And here they are in the playoffs with the worst goal difference ever. What a joke. How devastating for the Red Wings and Penguins.
Flyers are one of many teams that needed to cut down on OTL's. The loser point is stupid to begin with, but if they'd "only" had 8 OTL's (still somewhat above the league average), that's 3 more points, they'd be in. It's also kind of a joke that two teams with 15 and 16 OTL's like Boston and the Islanders are as high as 2 and 3 divisional seeds. League needs to move to a 3 PT regulation win, 2 point OT win, 1 point OTL system or just bring back ties. I know that's not s3xy enough for most fans, but if you played a 10 minute 3 on 3 OT, you wouldn't have more than 2 or 3 ties a year.
3 on 3 OT till someone scores, fans love OT im tired of the shootouts they're boring and so 50/50 and to lose in a shootout when your battling for possibly a crucial extra point just adds salt to the wound. I think the point system should look like : 3 points for Reg Win 2 Points for OT win and if it requires a shootout 1 point is rewarded. Losers get 1 point for an OT loss, if it requires a shootout then 0 points for the loser. I think it would create more entertaining hockey and you'd would see teams pushing to try and win late games if they are trying to climb the standings rather than hanging on for the possibility of a point.

Shootouts are so stupid and this system is already too convoluted. Insane that teams with 16 overtime losses in a season are being rewarded with the equivalent of 8 wins in the standings. If a team goes 0-0-82 they'd be "hockey .500"

Neutral fan. Flyers exceeded expectations significantly. Gutsy until the end. Sure some from team tank will argue this is negative for the future in getting a lower draft pick, but I disagree. There’s a plethora of teams that have been rebuilding forever and can never turn the corner.
Someone has to explain why a line of Frost. Brink and Atkinson makes sense in this game. Tortorella has done a good job and the Flyers were not expected to do this well for sure. But let’s be honest over the past 20 games they have not been good. He keeps shuffling the line up - including some weird combinations like tonight. Benched Coots 4:14 who was tonight #1 center iceman. I don’t think he is the long term answer as the Flyers roster improves.
Patrick Roy comes in at end of season and gets Islanders into 3rd place. Torts looses 8 in a row Eight IN A Row! Near end of season, benches the captain , gets suspended for not listening to the referee and leaving the bench, fails to make playoffs while being in playoff position most of the year. The guy is a mental case!

We are 6 and 14 in our last 20 games !?!! That's 1/4 of our season and the end, too, boot. He talks about the room, but it's fair to say he lost that 20 games ago!! As some 1 said, if the other team scores 2 and we need 3 forget it with a Torts, his offensive understanding of the game hasnt evolved. The proof is in the pudding! His teams generally dont score, and his pp consistently sucks year after year. Check his history his teams generally dont fflourish offensively! Anyway, the reality at this point and time is we already ate crow on the Vigneult contract so they ain't gonna do so again with Torts! I sure hope that our scouts have bin doing their work and we prepared to draft players that project to be everyday pros that can take us in the right direction. As for Torts, if he hasnt evolved with todays game by now, he never will and the ego and arrogance accompanied with the know it all artitude will always be the same!! Stay tuned, and let hope the draft goes well for a change.
If the Flyers had 3 more weeks of the season left and only needed 2 points combined with a Capital, Red Wing, Penguin tie, we would be in the playoffs. "The Process" of being proud of the team losing 7 straight mostly to non playoff teams, absolutely electrifying. We are ahead of the rebuild so let's slow up and let others pass since no one expected us to be in this year.
The only sign of a rebuild is the misguided belief that michkov will play here *YEARS* from now and the hopium that Ersson is Bernie Parent II. The biggest thing that has to happen is Frost becoming a big time point producer but you know apparently him and the coach don't get along. I expect lots of drama with young players next year and lots of old farts in the lineup. This coach has already peaked and its downhill from here. It really looks like a Smoke and Mirrors production.

There were 4 teams fighting for the last playoff spot. And just one of those teams wouldnt deserve it at all. And guess what, exactly that team made it. And the Flyers gave the Capitals the free win, and at the same time Detroit lost all hopes. What a nightmare. Their lose against the fkng Capitals ruined all playoff hopes for Detroit and the Penguins. The worst team ever (Washington Capitals) are now in the playoffs. With that goal difference haha. How the Flyers, the Red Wings and especially the Penguins managed to not qualify is amazing. The Flyers ruined it in just 2 weeks. The Penguins were ithe opposite, they ruined it earlier, but started to play much better over the last weeks. And the Red Wings probably ruined it because of a week defense. The end of season showed how bad Philly is, especially when it counted, and when the Isles and Caps both turned it on to make the playoffs. You are lucky the Devs regressed else you would be EXACTLY where we all said you would - better than CBJ. You all give Torts way too much credit because he fits in with your “we dont care” dbag attitude. But whatever helps you sleep better at night I guess.

Hell of a season, hit a rough patch at the end but hockey is a game of ebs and flows, potential was seen in Boston Rangers Canes games and the team is on the course to be great. John did GREAT with the group.
So proud of this team. They are on the right track. They finally played meaningful games and they will now be motivated to be better than this year. Cheers from Edmonton and look forward to seeing the Flyers on the ice again and in the playoffs!

Yeah 6th out of 8 spots is highly impressive.
Really proud of what these guys did this year! This team wasn't picked to do anything, and they were in a playoff spot most of the year. We beat most of the top teams who have loads more talent than we do right now. 14 point difference between this year and last year! I trust Briere and Jonesy to make the right moves in the offseason to make us even better. And we have a bunch of young talent in the pipeline. Lots to be happy about!
Way to go Tort's! Pulled the rug out from under your own team when it was still in contention. What era is that style from?

As a Sens fan but also a Torts fan.... considering you lost Carter Hart and had to essentially go with rookie goalies, pretty impressive. What has to really suck for the Wings is to know that Caps won on an empty net goal that essentially eliminated the Wings... As a Sens fan whose Sens had some very rough games vs the Wings... I can't say I mind this... Lol
I know how you feel. It's a strange feeling watching your team get eliminated but then feeling a small smile at the thought that somewhere Penguins fans were livid that the Flyers pulled their goalie in a tie game. Of course, Detroit got the benefit of a horrific non-icing call to even tie the game, but karma did them right in the end.

Like Torts said, I’m proud of the team too. Sucks we had the 8 game skid and I feel so sorry for the penalty kill. They were one of the beat in the league with a sweet 16 amount of shortys. But I give the team a big hand for the overachievements.👏👏👏They performed a hell of a lot better than anyone else expected them too. Flyers will be back eventhough it will take time. Anyone who thinks Tortorella should be fired after this I strongly disagree. He was 1 of 2 reasons we were this close to a playoff appearance for the first time in 4 years with a rebuilding team. I know he said he took responsibility for not motivating the players well enough in this kind of situation but I don’t think that was his mistake this season. The mistake was giving Coots the captaincy. No offense to him because I like Sean Couturier a lot and I was so happy for him he had such a great start to the season but he is not the player he used to be and I knew the performance was going to fade away at some point because he missed 2 seasons with injuries and it was just a matter of time before it would all catch up to him. If he didn’t have so many injures and played all of last season and the one prior, I would have gave him the C. If Couturier gets traded, TK deserves the captaincy. If not, Owen Tippett. Other than that, especially with a rebuild of course were were gonna lose some winnable games but that’s the nature of the sport. This season was progress for the first year of a rebuild. Overall, I was satisfied especially with the first half of the season. Unlike 2022 and 2023, this team was watchable. Young Beezer I’m so sorry your goal was disallowed. Whistle should have never been blown. That will count as a goal in my book. That will conclude my feedback on this season. Lets Go Flyers 2024-2025.🏒🥅

Here's my prediction. The Flyers will surge next season. They have zero momentum. They played well over most part of the whole season just to ruin everything in 2 weeks. No way they will make the playoffs next year. They wouldn't have any chance in the playoffs because they somewhat lost all momentum. It's really bitter for Detroit and the Penguins. The Penguins were clearly the best team not to make it and they would have a chance to beat the Rangers or Boston because they have some older elite players who play better in such games. It's a nightmare for the Penguins that they missed it really. I wonder how that was possible if you look at the player they have. Unbelievable...I followed the Flyers games over the season and I wished they made it but it's really strange how suddenly they started playing much worse. That's why I dont give them any chance next year. Also the Penguins as their stars get older will have trouble. And imagine the Red Wings after not qualifying maybe 7-8 years they were so close and then they lose against the worst team Washington as they get a free win against the Flyers. And here they are in the playoffs with the worst goal difference ever. What a joke. How devastating for the Red Wings and Penguins.
Flyers are one of many teams that needed to cut down on OTL's. The loser point is stupid to begin with, but if they'd "only" had 8 OTL's (still somewhat above the league average), that's 3 more points, they'd be in. It's also kind of a joke that two teams with 15 and 16 OTL's like Boston and the Islanders are as high as 2 and 3 divisional seeds. League needs to move to a 3 PT regulation win, 2 point OT win, 1 point OTL system or just bring back ties. I know that's not s3xy enough for most fans, but if you played a 10 minute 3 on 3 OT, you wouldn't have more than 2 or 3 ties a year.
3 on 3 OT till someone scores, fans love OT im tired of the shootouts they're boring and so 50/50 and to lose in a shootout when your battling for possibly a crucial extra point just adds salt to the wound. I think the point system should look like : 3 points for Reg Win 2 Points for OT win and if it requires a shootout 1 point is rewarded. Losers get 1 point for an OT loss, if it requires a shootout then 0 points for the loser. I think it would create more entertaining hockey and you'd would see teams pushing to try and win late games if they are trying to climb the standings rather than hanging on for the possibility of a point.
@@JMARSH999 Yeah I agree, I don't think any games would ever go beyond a 4th period if you had a 20 minute 3 on 3. It would be extremely rare. Shootouts are so stupid and this system is already too convoluted. Insane that teams with 16 overtime losses in a season are being rewarded with the equivalent of 8 wins in the standings. If a team goes 0-0-82 they'd be "hockey .500"

Ref was terrible but doesnt matter. Played well these last few games, couldve made it if it wasnt for that terrible stretch but whatever. Huge improvement on last season looking forward to the next one.

Sure some from team tank will argue this is negative for the future in getting a lower draft pick, but I disagree. There’s a plethora of teams that have been rebuilding forever and can never turn the corner.
Someone has to explain why a line of Frost. Brink and Atkinson makes sense in this game. Tortorella has done a good job and the Flyers were not expected to do this well for sure. But let’s be honest over the past 20 games they have not been good. He keeps shuffling the line up - including some weird combinations like tonight. Benched Coots 4:14 who was tonight #1 center iceman. I don’t think he is the long term answer as the Flyers roster improves.
Patrick Roy comes in at end of season and gets Islanders into 3rd place. Torts looses 8 in a row Eight IN A Row! Near end of season, benches the captain , gets suspended for not listening to the referee and leaving the bench, fails to make playoffs while being in playoff position most of the year. The guy is a mental case!
Yep. Amazing how Flyers fans think he did something. Flyers were only in 3rd because the Isles, Caps, Pens, and Devs sucked for much of the season. They would be 7th in the division if not for Jersey, which is where we all said they would be.

I sure hope that our scouts have bin doing their work and we prepared to draft players that project to be everyday pros that can take us in the right direction.

Good news is the Penguins are not in the playoffs again.
If the Flyers had 3 more weeks of the season left and only needed 2 points combined with a Capital, Red Wing, Penguin tie, we would be in the playoffs. "The Process" of being proud of the team losing 7 straight mostly to non playoff teams, absolutely electrifying. We are ahead of the rebuild so let's slow up and let others pass since no one expected us to be in this year.

The only sign of a rebuild is the misguided belief that michkov will play here *YEARS* from now and the hopium that Ersson is Bernie Parent II. The biggest thing that has to happen is Frost becoming a big time point producer but you know apparently him and the coach don't get along. I expect lots of drama with young players next year and lots of old farts in the lineup. This coach has already peaked and its downhill from here. It really looks like a Smoke and Mirrors production.

There were 4 teams fighting for the last playoff spot. And just one of those teams wouldnt deserve it at all. And guess what, exactly that team made it. And the Flyers gave the Capitals the free win, and at the same time Detroit lost all hopes. What a nightmare. Their lose against the fkng Capitals ruined all playoff hopes for Detroit and the Penguins. The worst team ever (Washington Capitals) are now in the playoffs. With that goal difference haha. How the Flyers, the Red Wings and especially the Penguins managed to not qualify is amazing. The Flyers ruined it in just 2 weeks. The Penguins were ithe opposite, they ruined it earlier, but started to play much better over the last weeks. And the Red Wings probably ruined it because of a week defense. The Capitals wont win not even one game. This is so fkng sad. They shouldnt be in the playoffs. Greasiest move of all time by torts at the end of that game, truly disgusted that he chose to give Washington a win rather than let one of the teams that had a chance earn it. And I’m not a fan of any of the teams that were fighting for that last spot. And there is no argument that he did it to try to win the game.
