    I feel like adding a hose would be a good idea. That could potentially let me hide the tank below a cabinet and then have this device to carbonate the water and make it look like magic

      Good idea. The SodaStream is a decent looking appliance that people aren't afraid to put on their countertop. I don't think anyone other than a bachelor under 30 would be okay with a gas cylinder in their kitchen - parka or not. Might work for someone to stock their fridge with multiple sodastream bottles that they gas up in their garage.
      What about the ability to connect a standard cylinder to an existing SodaStream? This would allow someone who has become addicted to bubbly water to migrate into less expensive refills, assuming they have the ability to locate the tank remotely.

    • @andyjholloway
      @andyjholloway Před 4 měsíci

      Pretty sure this already exists. Just use a standard soda stream machine and an adapter on the back of it to connect a hose, then onto a 2.6kg cylinder.

    Absolutely - I have gone online to try to find a product like this and I have previously bought an adapter hose to go from 2.6kg to sodastream unit.

    Option for PET would be great. I'd think generically speaking - if you have sodastream bottles, you probably have a sodastream which gives you options for refilling from larger or adapter to replace with larger cylinder.
    Making it suited for PET + Sodastream (small adapter in connector?) could add value.
    If goes into purification if like to see it moulded at bottle connection side with mounting holes so it could be possible to mount on a cupboard/keezer/door with ability to use direct to bottle or hose to remote mount
    Nice idea overall. Clean looking unit - but big with the bottle

  • @theloniuser
    @theloniuser Před 10 měsíci +2

    I already use a co2 cylinder and carbonate a 5 gallon corny keg - though it does take a bit of shaking and really a day or so before the water is fully carbonated. In the interim while I’m waiting for that, I use a 2 liter soda bottle and a carbonation cap. I shake it for about 2 minutes while connected to co2 for it to fully carbonate.

  • @thedjdrexxx
    @thedjdrexxx Před 10 měsíci +3

    The concept is great but as our SS machine lives on the bench, this setup would look too industrial to replace it. We instead use the Kegland SS cylinder refill valve to refill the original bottles, or we use the Kegland adaptor hose which allows connection of main cylinder direct to the SS machine with the bottle hidden. Those two devices work perfect for us and we go through a LOT of Soda water.

    As someone who bought a sodastream adapter hose from you guys - absolutely it's a great idea! I would have gone with this instead: I had zero interest in the small sodastream cylinders and love getting to swap in the larger CO2 bottles. Neoprene cover is an interesting idea as would other ways of hiding it.
    I'm intrigued by the possibility of doing PET bottles as others have mentioned, though I guess pressure integrity would be the concern in repeated reuse scenarios. Am ok to stick to sodastream bottles (or similar) if there was a safety concern.
    Love the work on the concept though, great idea.

    As a reseller of your equipment it makes sense but you should integrate a plastic gas bottle cover as part of it. Just plain white plastic would be fine, but make it a shape that would be easy, for example, to cover with vinyl wrap so people can colour co-ordinate it with their kitchen or bar.

    Years ago, a friend turned a stainless bolt on a lathe to turn it into a through-holed barb with a threaded portion to clamp a bottle cap, and this was the start of our carbonation adventures. Many years were spent shaking PET bottles until I found your "Carbonation Lid for Continuous Soda Water", which I set up in the Kegerator alongside the latest brew, and I have to say, it's just so nice to have it endlessly available and on tap. The lid itself is very inexpensive (and it works a treat!), but getting it all the way plumbed turns out to be quite a lot of fittings, so maybe a kit for that would do well.

    Yes, my wife drinks a ton of carbonated water! And I brew my own beer. So I've actually been thinking it would be a great excuse to get a CO2 cylinder to both pressurize tapwater for the Mrs, and to carbonate my newly brewed beers as well (in still-to-purchase kegs). Having a kit like this would be perfect for me.
    Though I agree with the others: strong preference to be able to reuse 'regular' PET bottles (I live in Northern Europe; not sure if there's a worldwide standard?). I'd be put off by being required to use Sodastream or other proprietary containers/consumables.

    • @Pappadumful
      @Pappadumful Před 10 měsíci +1

      I have very limited countertop space, so would probably store it on the floor with that cover, maybe in a pantry, or in the garage/shed (and pressurize several bottles once a week or so).

    • @punkdigerati
      @punkdigerati Před 10 měsíci +1

      This wouldn't be the product for your use case then, you would be quickly infecting everything because of the dip tube. Just get a cylinder and regulator, ball lock disconnect and the soda bottle ball lock caps. Then you can do the soda bottles, and then you could use the Oxebar kegs, or stainless mini kegs, or you're halfway to a full kegging setup already.

  • @mikef9609

    Very interesting. A lot in favour, I must admit it is a good idea for some. I have had my soda stream on a bench sitting on a bench in my kitchen with the 2.6 kg bottle underneath in a cupboard connected, via a neat hole drilled through my bench, by the kegland supplied connector. It just works. The aesthetics are just great.

    Great idea. I would love a sodastream for the wife to have carb water on tap (more or less). But I also don't want her having to go outside to my beer fridge (and utilizing one of my kegs which takes forever to carbonate).

    I would definitely be a purchaser

    If this worked with standard PET bottles instead it would be a winner for me! The comments saying this is something which you already sell in the form of a carbonation kit are incorrect, it isn't the same thing. • @PewpewFiah
    @PewpewFiah Před 10 měsíci

    This is great for having in a garage, but part the appeal and honestly CONVENIENCE of the Sodastream setup is being able to have it on a countertop also. So having an optional 'housing' and a feed line would be ideal if you wanted to mount it on the countertop as a drop in replacement.
    IMO as other commenters have mentioned, the best in class alternative would be able to connect to PET bottles, either as a handheld or countertop plastic unit, with either a direct or piped connection back to the tank.

  • @golly181
    @golly181 Před 6 měsíci

    This would be good, but it needs the ability to release c02 from your drink slowly.
    The soda stream can’t do it, but some other products have the ability to bleed off the c02 so you don’t get a crazy foaming if you carbonate something other than water.

  • @icepipe2

    I would say yes, but I rekon the weight of the 2.6kg steel would deter some people from having them on the kitchen bench. Personally I keep my machine on the top shelf of my cupboard out of sight, so I can avoid that problem. Id much prefer to use a 2.6kg, but I’d probably keep it in the garage with my brew gear or in a low-bench. To me that’s not a problem but it may be for others

    Love that you guys are thinking outside the box, and trying to save us money!
    I probably wouldn't buy it based on the design shown - our kitchen countertop space is at a premium (Newtown terrace in Sydney). What I would buy would be something similar that sits snugly on top of my Series X, that I can hook into my existing kegerator gasline (my kegerator sits near our stairs). It would be cool if I could plumb some sort of sodastream gas refill tap into my existing font, but I'd be reluctant to give up a tap :-)
    This would also win brownie points with the wife as we could then ditch the countertop sodastream machine :-)

  • @shaunanderson8282
    @shaunanderson8282 Před 10 měsíci

    I think most people using it enough to worry about the cost of gas would have it on a benchtop or in a kitchen cupboard, so aesthetics and size/weight would be important and so it would probably be better just paying the cost of the sodastream gas, or messing around refilling the sodastream gas bottle off a bigger co2 bottle. Or as others have suggested, just using a carb cap on a normal bottle which is only a few bucks.
    I'd personally prefer it if you kept your focus on what you've been doing with all the great beer stuff, or solving whatever supply chain/stock issues lead to long periods of items being out of stock. I understand its a tough gig and I appreciate what you do, but items out of stock seems to be the gripe for most of us.

    I am in Sweden and would never buy an expensive bigger CO2-flask since refilling sodastream bottles is much cheaper. It is worth the inconvinance to change the sodastream bottle on the kegerator pretty often. There is an interesting question: why is refilling small bottles so cheap in Sweden and not in many other countries?

    • @thedjdrexxx
      @thedjdrexxx Před 10 měsíci +1

      The larger bottles are very cheap to both buy new and get refilled and there are plenty of refill depots around - I get 3.5kg CO2 gas cylinder refill for about $25-30 AUD. Typically the empty small SS bottles are swapped at supermarkets for a full one and SS sets the price for doing that and costs about the same as refilling the larger cylinder. My guess is the smaller bottles are a hassle to refill and only hold a small amount of gas so are more expensive.

    The wife and I burn through 2 sodastream cannisters a month, we'd pay anything for that kit.

    What about stability... if the big cylinder gets knocked over on kitchn bench, it could do a lot of damage to bench or worse if it falls off bench and breaks off the tap!

      True. Would take a bit of force though

  • @ScoochieR
    @ScoochieR Před 10 měsíci

    What would be better is a hose that goes from the 2kg cylinder under the bench into where the normal soda stream cylinder screws into. Far less unsightly

      We're looking at that too

    This limits you to the Sodastream water only situation. You should make this thing feed a hose to a ball-lock/carbonation cap and give it a pressure gauge.

    • @KegLand
      @KegLand  Před 7 měsíci

      that is a fair point. we will look into this too.

    Yes please i have had no luck with connecting soda stream bottle to a cylinder.

  • @mulcslo
    @mulcslo Před 10 měsíci +1

    It would be sweet to connecct it with a hose, so you can have this connected on the keezer, or place co2 bottle under the desk, and have only filler above the counter.

    I don't think so. It's just like a massive soda syphon. Better to have to hose connecting to an attractive benchtop dispenser, in my opinion 👍

    Counter space would probably be close to the same with the housing of the sodastream…I’d certainly consider it. Since ours is in a pantry; aesthetics is a non-issue.

    I think most people would find the large bottle a bit ugly on a kitchen top, maybe if something enclosed the cylinder

      Can you run a line to it or do you need to attach directly to a cylinder

  • @lassek779

    Do a hose so you can hide the cylinder and have wall mount for the thingy.
