DIVING in Koh Tao, PADI Course | Part One - Day 69

It's DAY ONE of our PADI Open Water Diving Course in Koh Tao! This is something that me and Austin have wanted to do for years and years and what better place to complete it than Koh Tao - the cheapest place in the WORLD to achieve your PADI certification. Koh Tao is one of the best places to learn to dive for beginners not only because of how cheap it is, but the dive sites are incredible for beginners, and there are thousands of people who come to Koh Tao every day just to learn to dive. Whilst there is so much more to Koh Tao than just diving, it certainly is the diving island of Thailand, if not the world!
On Day One of our course, we filled out a bunch of forms and met our instructor Kwan, who was so cool! He has over 20 years' worth of experience in diving and is actually a Dive Master. We then sorted out the equipment we would be borrowing for the next three days, such as our regulators, BCD, wet suits, and fins. We then learned about the equipment itself and what each thing does and is responsible for. After touching on the basics and learning about the oxygen tanks, we then headed off to the pool to start practicing with the equipment on! Safe to say I was VERY VERY nervous.
The afternoon ended up being a breeze. We both learned so many skills underwater such as: how to control our buoyancy using both breathing techniques and the air in our BCD, how to clear our masks if water got in, how to remove and replace the mask, hand signals for underwater communication, signaling "out of air" to your buddy and swapping for emergency air supply, and many more - that's just to name a few haha! After the day was done we then met Niall and Becky for a well-deserved burger and fries before heading back to start on our E-Learning training before the real dives tomorrow...
