Funny how it didn’t work then but ten years later there was Webster and Diffrent Strokes. Also Ken Berry who recently passed who played the father was a world class dancer and it’s worth looking him up on CZcams. He was phenomenal.
Even sooner than that. Because this was a last season episode of the Brady Bunch that actually aired in about 1974, right? Whereas Different Strokes first aired in 1978 (and Webster was sort of a copycat after that). This probably didn't pick up as a spinoff because while the little boys on it were cute and sweet, none of them had the spunk of Gary Coleman when Different Strokes finally aired.
It wasn't as good as Different Strokes. Gary Coleman was fantastically funny and so was Mrs. Garret. Kimberly was pretty and added more storylines they couldn't have done without a teenaged girl. And then there was the interesting premise of the two boys having grown up in poverty and coming to live with Daddy Warbucks in white wealthy neighborhood. Those are just a few reasons it worked better than a Brady spinoff.

It reminds me of Fred Roger’s episode having a foot bath in a kiddie pool with the postman to help create a reality without the ignorance and fear of racism. It’s not been enough to help everyone, but it helped some to be more open minded to discarding the form a soul resides in as the most important feature. Truth plus safety; that changes everything, and that is missing for far too many.

("Instead of moving one more bed in the room we moved two more in") Does that mean they bought a two bedroom house? LOL

The only spinoff attempt of The Brady Bunch. It never got past first base. Perhaps the idea of a mixed race adoptive family was too controversial for the time.
The pilot show was obviously trying to be more aligned with the times and other shows on the air such as All in the Family, Maude, and Good Times. People were pretty much done with the white bread hijinks of the Brady Bunch. I can attest to this because even though I watched this show when it first came out, I was pretty much done by the last seasons. This show simply lost it’s relevance to me by the time I was in my teens.
Oh please. All-White shows dominated TV for 40 more years. Happy Days, Taxi, MASH, Three's Company, Cheers, Family Ties, Rosanne, Full House, Friends, Seinfeld....

"X can't be Y" can only be proven by showing that no examples of Y are X, not by showing examples of Y that are something else. Mary Tyler Moore, Laverne and Shirley, Mork and Mindy, One Day At A Time, Growing Pains, Who's the Boss.... All White casts and plenty of hijinks.

Trying to ascribe their ending to some kind of cultural shift is usually dumb. Imagine thinking America was done with science fiction because Star Trek got canceled. Which leads you to your biggest problem: the show actually became BIGGER in syndication, just like Trek. Odd thing to happen if America was done with them, no?
I sort of remember this one, the boys were friends and of course to kids the racial thing meant nothing (as it ought not to mean anything to anyone!) but this Mrs. Pain (in the butt) was saying stupid crap about it right? Since they didn't show that part.

After the Civil Rights legislation in the mid-60s everything became about integration. But I consider the original Civil Rights movement and Women's Lib in the early '70s to be organic vs. the woke 🗑 today.

I guess networks weren't ready for a sitcom with interracial adoption until a few years later with Different Strokes.
