    I think what makes this kind of brotherhood and roundtable effective is the fact that each man in this group works diligently towards maintain their own relationship with God. The accountability piece within their brotherhood keeps them honest in not only their overall message to the christian hip hop community but their business ventures, their marriages, and their other relationships (familial, etc) which is extremely important. This support system is integral to their growth as artists, as men as fathers, as husbands and public figures. If they maintain their focus on the purity of the message and the role that they are to play as a vessel rather than the hype, the theatrical aspects and the fame then they will be fine. Someone who disciples another person must understand the gravity and the enormous responsibility of that undertaking. Each mentor and mentee must still have that grounding aspect with their own spiritual walk and accountability person that allows for success, maturity and growth in all aspects of their lives.

    @ Eric Johnson, discipleship is about teaching believers how to follow Christ. You have to believe before you are going to be able to follow. Believing does not make you a disciple. BOTH of the men on the cross believed just one was repentant and trusting Christ for his sins to be pardoned.

    "What are some things that you do in your home to disciple your wife or your children" Thats a practical question since discipleship starts at home

    From my point of view, 3:11 is flipped on its head. It's been easier for me to talk to and disciple people outside of my family, because my family knows my past dirt, and I've hurt a lot of them with those things. They even took part in some of those things, so it seems more odd to disciple them, when it wasn't too many years ago when I was in sin with them.
    Thanks for recording this. You guys were used in these videos by God to encourage me to come back to the church and desire discipleship and membership.

    When talking about the dangers of discipleship, I think it is very important to also really encourage the disciple to make a strenuous effort to follow the means that God has laid out for us to know him and grow in him (i.e. devotion to bible study, life groups/study groups, "unceasing" prayer/communication with God, local church, etc). Because we know that people have a significant potential to become idols, I think you find a lot of young Christians are tempted to look to you and come to you for biblical doctrine rather than come to Christ and his word; we should be the supplement, not the source. And I guess Json touched on that when he said make sure you do not become to authoritative over them.

    A husband's devotion time with his wife and children is as important as showing vulnerability and his weaknesses or failures. Fostering intimacy in your marriage requires approaches that dont ultimately alienate and create distance. Trust is incredibly important with regards to those aspects of marriage. Using rebuke as a tool with your wife in creating unity isnt effective either in a short term or long term capacity

    Great question, can you describe any EPIC failures with respect to discipleship? What are some of the challenges?

  • @lovedichoreo1529
    @lovedichoreo1529 Před 7 lety

    J'son makes such an excellent point about discipleship. His approach to discipleship came from the lack of formal mentorship. In creating his own approach he found that due to the fact that the discipleship was not expressly defined it caused issues when he began to take on an authoritarian role. It may help to incorporate informed consent like we do in counseling. By explicitly defining what discipleship means to you first (I would suggest verbal than written) then you are more apt to be able to express your views to someone else. As a mentee they also should be able to express what their needs are and what the end goal is for both of you. At this point, you should both be able to discuss the methodology that you will use to accomplish these goals in a way that is mutually beneficial for both parties. Throughout the process you should desire to tweak, redesign and reconfigure what this looks like. The secular music industry can corrupt in more ways than one, especially with regards to contracts, song choices, management relationships etc but again both parties should continue to do introspection regarding your own motives and agendas. Keep each other honest and accountable

      He is talking about an isomorphism in modeling of the discipler. Remember it is your connection to Christ and Christ alone that is primarily the formation of tge truth in His incarnation in us.

      There is no Evangalism without Discipleship. You guys need to plant a Church in Trenton, NJ. To be a compliment to the Epiphany Fellowship amd the co.munity they have built in Camden Epiphany Fellowship with Dr.Doug Logan.

      Wear your authority lightly amd align it with the Ecclesiastical authority of the local Church. Hospitality has to be generous. It does not need to involve adolescent behavior like, "video games"

    I think that discipleship does not need to be exclusive to believers. Believers can also be discipling non-believers.
