Ustad Bahauddin Mohiuddin Dagar is an exponent of the Rudraveena, which is an ancient classical musical instrument of India. He plays the instrument in the Dagarbani style of the Dhrupad genre, which is one of the the oldest living vocal traditions of India and traces its roots to the Vedic era. Bahauddin Dagar was introduced to the Sitar at the age of seven, under the expert tutelage of his mother Smt. Pramila Dagar. Once he'd finished initial training, he received brief instruction on the Surbahar and was introduced to the Rudra Veena by his father, Ustad Zia Mohiuddin Dagar, a legendary Rudra Veena maestro. Later he mastered vocal music under the guidance of his uncle and mentor, Ustad Zia Fariduddin Dagar, a renowned Indian classical vocalist. Over the years Ustad Bahauddin Dagar continuously searched for newer ways of expressing himself without breaking away from the traditional format. His command of Rudraveena and vocal techniques lent a distinctive and precise sense of timing in the cutting of the phrases when presenting the aalap, jor and jhala, which is a salient feature of the Saadharani school of Dhrupad.
In the second edition of Bengal Classical Music Festival held in Dhaka in 2013, Ustad Bahauddin Dagar showcased the ‘sadharana geeti’ in the dhrupad style, emphasising detailed alaap and the finer nuances of the raga, and mesmerised the audience.

He also happens to be the son of the great Zia Mohiuddin Dagar who played a role in reviving the rudra veena as a concert instrument.

Rudra Veena isn't for enclosed places like this. It should be played open under the sky.

why don't these bengal foundation concerts ever or only rarely mention the raga that is being played when they provide all other info about a clip??? This is like the key info of the performance! How difficult is it to record that info or identify the raga..
anyway could please anyone clarify if Ustadji is playing chandrakauns or another closely related raga? It is not malkauns, that much I can hear. Thank you so much.
