Thanks for the great video. Especially appreciated the multiple take-offs and landings. I've purchased the Spitfire, but have not maidened yet, so this video is very helpful. I love warbirds, but I'm just bridging into an intermediate skill level, so I was very attracted to the SAFE that comes with this plane.
sure thing-glad it was useful. This is one of the easiest flying warbirds you will find so it makes a great one for your first.
Best flight and review plus explanation on safe 👌
Very Very educational...just love the various take off & landings. Well done again!!
Thanks for checking it out! :)
hello, this video is dated 2016 and so good. Great explanations, demos. For those who don't know spektrum AS3X and SAFE this video is a MUST- Thanks for this nice edition. PS I fly AS3X and SAFE (ON or OFF depending on mood :-) on 3 of my models over the 10 i own & fly.
Thanks big help you explained the safe stuff much better than the manual.
thanks! Glad it was helpful.
Thank you for this very imformative video bud! I subscribed to your channel!!
thanks Todd!
Nice flights and landings were great considering the surface, and that the Spitfire has a narrow undercarriage.
Very good presentation my friend!
thanks GB!
Discover RC You are welcome my friend!
Nice video.
thanks RA.
Hey there - I'm looking into picking up this plane and love the video. What I particularly love is that I know exactly what field this is! Just flew there today. Shoot me a note if you wanna go flying sometime? Not too sure how to get in touch. Look for the guy with a Carbon Z Cessna 150 or eFlite Allusive out there. I'm also a noob pilot, so I love SAFE and needs lots of practice. Safe flying!
Hey How do you like the Cessna? If you are free on a Sunday morning come on out and fly with us in Moraga. We are pretty laid back and just out to have fun with the models.
Juts got back from Yosemite or I woulda been there. Ping me at cooleyone at yahoo and we'll figure something out. :) Cessna is amazing!
Cool! Thanks for the video! ÷)
sure thing :)
I'm glad I never learnt to fly planes with self levelling, however I made the mistake on quads and learnt to fly great in stability. I can only fly very slowly in agility mode but I'm sure I'll get better with practice. Happy flying! Oh and not to be picky but there is a typo in the description "includingbtakeoffs".
lol thanks - the 7yo was flying that helic max quad in my face while I was uploading. I agree, after a while it almost starts to make you lazy with the flying. It's a device to use, but you got to move on from it at the same time.
+Discover RC completely agree, it sure saved me a lot of crashes however.
can it fly with a 4 cell without burning out the motor or esc?
So is Safe mode" the same as having a gyro?
great advise
thanks William hope it's helpful
Great vid! Are those landings full flaps and how much throttle roughly? Awaiting delivery of one!
thanks Ben - all the landings are full flaps. The throttle is variable 1/3 to 1/2 with some blips on it to not get too slow. This plane really carries a long way and it's easy to overshoot the approach if you are not flying it down. I've done a lot of landings at this point some not great and the gear is holding up. Hope you like it!
nice!
two years ago we had one like this :-)
thanks! Which plane did you have?
Spitfire MK IX
nice
Is this slow enough for low time pilots to learn on it? Looking at stepping up from a decathlon that had a different version of safe mode.
Thanks
Nice little I16 Chaika. Do you carry that thing around the whole time just in case you have to explain aerodynamics or stabilisation? :)
lol nah I just brought it for this video-was looking around the room and grabbed the first small die cast plane. That's a good idea though-it doesn't take up any room. :)
Very clearly explained right there! Good job man :)
Have you ever tried putting a (multirotor) FC in a plane? Most won't work I guess.. APM's can be set up for planes..
thanks Dutch! You mean for an fpv plane? You have done that correct?
Well you Could do that for an FPV platform.. For me at was just an experiment though, to see how well it would automate flying a plane..
I used a (now old) APM 2.7 with GPS, and that really worked out pretty well.. I could have the plane auto take-off & land (scary :P)
yeah auto take off and land :O oh did you see that new Champ with what they call SAFE +? It has some auto flight features.
I have not come across that one yet :$ With all the developments in FC's that was kinda inevitable I think :)
Hi, I enjoy your videos. Which would you recommend for a second plane, the Spitfire or the Razorback? Thanks.
The Spitfire is a really sweet flying plane. Hard not to recommend it.
I'm new to the RC world, the SPEKTRUM AR636A receiver is whats in this spitfire. If i were to buy the spektrum ar636A receiver alone and throw it into other PNP aircraft would it still have AS3X mode?
yes - you will need to program it. www.spektrumrc.com/ProdInfo/Files/AS3X%20Quickstart%20Programming%20Guide.pdf
hello. i have a question. i have the P47 razorback and timber, so they both have safe select. my question is if i fly it in as3x and i get caught in a stall or Im spiraling out of control, will flipping the switch to go back into safe mode act as a panic button almost?
That's a good question - I never tried testing that. To get out of a spin typically you need to give it throttle and hard opposite rudder, and if it's upright get the nose level or down to get airspeed back. People sometimes crash because they just keep giving full up elevator hoping the plane will climb out when that just keeps it in the spin. Full scale crashes have happened because of that reflex. So while hitting safe may help level the wings somewhat you would still need to power out of it and give some control inputs - I don't think it will save you from a bad spin but it may help. The stall is the same, you've lost airspeed and need to get it back. There is depends on whether you are now in a spin from the stall or just a dive - if it's a dive you still need airspeed and throttle get the plane flying again. Even with SAFE on during a landing you can get too slow, stall it and crash, so SAFE won't save you from that. It doesn't know your airspeed and when you are getting too slow. It just tries to level the wings, but it won't fly the plane out of a bad situation.
ok. thanks for the response. I'm hoping it acts like the panic button, lol
Jon Heuer Yes it should act like a panic switch and level the plane out.
Yes it will level the plane but add throttle if you were close to stall. Altitude is your friend!
thanks for the great video! I have question, Since this is a 6 channel aircraft and I have it on a 6 channel radio can SAFE system still be activated to a switch if I have a DX6i ?
Thanks Edgar! Well SAFE is assignable to any open channel 5-9 so I am not sure you can do it on the 6i. You could try to put it on the gear switch so gear down is safe, but I am not sure if that will work. The rcgroups thread on the spitfire may have more info. Sorry I can't help more!
ok sir, thanks ill try to program it to that channel thanks! Happy 4th !
It is. I've have a blog on RCGs on the E-flite 1.2M Spitfire. My POST # 15 there is on how to setup a DX6i for SAFE ON/OFF using the Flaps switch. Link here www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?2728753-E-flite-1-2M-Spitfire-Reference-Source#post36277955
Hi
I bought this plane but I have a dx6 , does that mean I am one channel too short of operating everything in this bird ( including safe on/off) ?
correct - since you need the 2 extra channels for gear and flaps you are 1 short for safe select on a separate switch. You can set it up to have SAFE off with flaps up and SAFE on with flaps down but that may not be desirable for you. Or set it on the gear channel.
Discover RC that's what I thought , only thing left to do would be to connect the flaps and the gear servos with a Y servo connector connected to one channel and hope to god flaps and gear would deploy.
Worth a try.
Thanks again
At 3:30 you mention how when taking off torque and P factor will cause the plane to go left. Then you mention how Safe technology will correct that. Wouldn't the AS3X already take care of that?
That's a great question. Every as3x tail dragger I've flown has needed correction on take off. It may be the as3x doesn't respond well to a constant torque or movement. It may offer some degree of correction but not full correction.
Discover RC I see. Have you tested the difference on that bird? Between taking off safe on and AS3X only?
I've gone back to flying it with as3x only. SAFE on does keep it tracking better and with less correction needed. It still helped to give a little right rudder on the SAFE take offs. If you have some room for a little leftward deviation you'll be able to get in the air ok without the correction.
And does this Safe mode feature come with this model?
yes is comes with safe.
Could you fit a 3200 in this?
should fit - pretty good size battery compartment
Thanks, I'm having a hard time deciding between this, the at-6 and the p47 due to 90% of my batteries being 3200s.
never got the AT-6 - the P-47 and Spit are both nice flying planes.
are all AR636A receivers set for safe mode?
the standard ar636 is not. If they sell this one as a replacement rx for the spit I imagine it will be.
So is there a way for the average person to program the AR636A or the AR636 to make it a Safe receiver.
From what I understand - no. You can program it in 3 modes, off, rate mode and heading hold. Off is just like an ordinary receiver. Rate mode is your basic as3x and Heading hold will keep the aircraft in going in the same direction as the last input in all 3 axis until you change it.
Thank you so much. You answered my question :).
Actually the Auto-Level mode is the 3rd mode. It's different than Heading Hold. Auto-Level is analogous to the PANIC mode in other AR636s - but without as much gain. It's more of an intermediate level vs a beginner level. Heading hold in other stabs keeps a heading until changed by the pilot. It could be a heading with wings in a banked angle. Auto-level in the Spitfire keeps the wings level and also keeps a pitch angle level. HH's effect is about the same as Auto-Level but HH works more on yaw than roll or pitch.
is a safe switch selectable with a dx6????
the answer is yes but it's not simple. This is from someone who did it on RCG: After some experimentation on the bench today I was still not able to get safe select working on the gear switch when the gear is selected down. This has been a problem for a few using the DX6...I've half found a solution....on the flap switch!
Initially I didn't think the flap switch would be an option as per manual it mentions the switch would need -100/+100 travel, I thought +100 on 'landing flaps' would equal too much deflection.
I unhooked the clevis from the flap on each side and adjusted the switch on the TX flap menu to -100 (which its already at) and +100. I then initiated the safe select by moving the sticks inward and toggling the flaps switch all the way 5 or so times. The surfaces moved to confirm it had worked. I then changed the Flap back to 60 and safe select still works every time. Even as low as +50 on landing flaps but no lower if desired.
Hope that makes sense for anyone in a flap over this.....hopefully some help! Any comments welcome.

that dirt though 7:53
it looked nicely weathered after all that :)
Couldnt you fly with the sun at your back?
It was making my eyes sore watching this!
Sorry for your eyes - at that spot the only way to use an infield as a runway is to fly in that direction.
Hi. I know myself. I know that if I get this, I’ll fly it a couple of times and it will collect dust. I used to fly rc plane and helicopter. I got rid of all of it 10 years ago. I think what I will do is saturate myself with these vids to remind myself how boring it really is. . . It is fun for a while and will wear out in terms of novelty. At this point in my life I have had many hobbies and have had many rehashes of hobbies. On first go around, if u will, The hobbies die out after a while. And on second and third go around dies quicker. So I don’t really want to spend 300 total on plane and battery and charger and airtronics 6 channel to just fly one or two times. Thx. Hi I am thinking abot not getting one because I won’t fly it much. It exists more enticingly as a concept than actually having the machine. Heck I prolly won’t even open the box if I actually bought it. Just the thought of binding and charging and lugging the equip, ent into the car and driving a distance and setting it up and flying it seems like something of which I won’t be too fond. The flying itself might b fun for a few minutes, but I remember back when I used to fly, I’d think oh I have 15 more minutes of this before landing time. Is time up yet? I used to fly glow and a full tank burn was standard flight for me. It can take time to burn a tank.
Why did you even comment?? You just explained how you talk yourself out of it...
Hi: thx for your reply. The thinking behind the comment was deep, with extreme maturity. Haven't you, yourself, as you have grown older and wiser come to know yourself and just know that there are certain things that, if bought, would bring clutter and regret? Haven't you had hobbies where you accumulated objects that cost money and ends up being boring? The thing about life is that it is boring. Recognizing that before making mistakes is a sign of true growth. Growth, as opposed to accumulation, is the true prize. Or do u not examine your own experiences and mistakes, while making necessary adjustments? thx.
Don't know what to say🤔. I have stopped rc a few times for a bit so I get it but I always come back. It's too much fun and there are always things to learn and do better. But you know do or do not do what you do. Just don't try. There is no try. Now get lost.
@@yi-tzaistoyreview4576 , Your missing the point behind his video... It was very imformative.. It just didn't make any sense for you to reply with how you feel about Hobby's... Life boring??? We are the Creator's of our own destiny, other than accidental death.. I'm high on life! Hobbies are great mental health... Takes you away from the grind,to recoup...Gather your thoughts, and love life!!
Hate to say it, but the HobbyKing MKV looks nicer.
no argument here, that's a fine looking model.
Discover RC Not sure why HH didn't go with the full bubble canopy spitfire (like P51D).
I have a Eflite P47 1100mm that flies nice but needs more power IMO.
