      @@BWFAIZANSRD By my understanding on the approach there are 2 lane which open to 3 lanes. One (left lane) going left, second middle (straight over) and third (straight over). So since the first lane only goes left, the second can be the lane you pick to go to the left most lane after the first exit. The driver goes to the middle lane which isn’t incorrect as both second and third lane says go straight over. But ideally if you want to go in the middle or right lane you should be in the third lane. That’s why the van overtook him because since the driver was in the second lane he should be following through to the left most lane. Is that correct?

The floor arrows in the left lane show a left turn only which I always thought is for the first exit, so if you are taking the second exit would you not automatically stay in the middle lane as per the markings showing straight ahead. The lanes do split after the first exit which I think make roundabouts so much more difficult and prone to accidents because people are never sure or in the correct position

    Main issue too why its confusing is that the line for your middle lane cuts off and that part with no white lines perspective wise if you are becoming narrow sighted looks like you are in line for the right line as you entered where the van was. When in fact you are joining a dual carriage and from your middle lane should enter on the left lane.
    So you gotta widen your vision and make sure you stick to your lane cause I won't lie, it's very confusing if not aided by any white lines on the road.

    . 1) seems insufficient road markings.
    2) roundabouts have been changed by some smarty, (may be the same person for smart motorways) from their original purpose.
    In my day it wasn't solely an overtaking lane as was said.
    Roundabouts replaced cross junctions. If a roundabout could not be installed then the cross junction was altered to an offset cross junction.
    The old system, like me, is still best in my mind. Examble, nearside lane left turn only, as shown in the clip. Offside lane goes ahead into offside lane or around a right into offside lane. This is assuming twin lanes in each. Then merge into nearside lane (as if an overtaken manoeuvre) when safe to do so. Unless you have an Audi or. BMW that is. This enabled a greater volume of continuous flowing traffic.
    And here are some tips.
    Never go around a roundabout beside or travel aside an artic or lowloader and look out if same is taking a left turn heading toward you.
    Examine any twin wheeled vehicle thats been of road, ie building site, quarry etc. for rubble wedged between its rear tyres.
    Plus always beware of woman drivers applying their eye makeup when approaching traffic lights. Factual, i and a double decker bus had to take evasive action as she drove straight through the red.
    Never ever trust an indicator.
    If you are getting frustratingly impatient with a vehicle in front, then think its a police car.
    What gets me is the bum sniffers (tailgating) and the nose pickers (cutting up).
    Always remember your best passenger is "CAUTION" not aggression.
    No matter the fancy style or size of wheel, you only have approximately 6 inch of tyre on the road surface.
    Most importantly, turn your mobile OFF and into your boot.
    Worst job for the Fire rescue service personnel , is collecting up the body parts.
    Worst job for a police constable, is having to inform the family that a drunk, a druggie, a mobile nutter, speed freak has just squashed the life out of their wife, husband, son, daughter.
    Remember, other than on a motorway, horse and people have the right of way.
    Why have i said all this?
    Well,
    'Its easier to stop anything before it starts". Plus,
    "You never know whats around the corner" and also "You cant readily fix stupid".

    You won’t believe how so many “experienced” drivers don’t care about lane discipline on roundabouts. I have to deal with people doing it every morning driving into work. The worst thing is, if they just stayed in the lane I join in they’d come round beautifully and not need to cut in at the last second. They take the right lane instead of the middle, it’s laughable but dangerous.

      Left lane before roundabout states left turn or straight. Once you're ON the roundabout, this becomes straight only, hence you still need to keep LHS of the roundabout. I'd be a bit confused here too TBH, Normally they'd add the dotted line leading you onto the correct one but might make it bit messy from markings. 👍🏻

  • @deang5622
    @deang5622 Před rokem

    The markings on the approach to that roundabout appear to be wrong.
    Going round the roundabout there are 3 lanes.
    The straight across exit (exit 2) has two lanes.
    Counting from left to right, the 3 lanes on the roundabout are:
    Roundabout Lane 1 -> Second Exit Lane 1
    Roundabout Lane 2 -> Second Exit Lane 2
    Roundabout Lane 3 -> Third exit and higher if there are any.
    If this is the required routing, then that filter lane on the left for the first exit is wrongly marked and the arrow should indicate both left turn and straight ahead.
    So what this driver has done is: go around the roundabout in Lane 2 and exit at junction 2 lane 2 which is the overtaking lane.
    Nothing massively wrong in this. Particularly in rush hour when there will be cars in lanes 1 and 2 on the roundabout all coming off in exit 2, lanes 1 and 2. They won't be overtaking lanes in rush hour. They will be just two parallel lanes accommodating the high volume of traffic.
    In order to get into Lane 1 at exit 2, he really needs to be in the left turn lane approaching the roundabout and ignore that left turn instruction
    OR
    Approach the roundabout in the middle lane - as he did, and then as he pulls on to the roundabout immediately change lanes and move to the left most lane on the roundabout - roundabout Lane 1 in my nomenclature I used earlier.
    It's not entirely clear in the video which of these would have been best or the right thing to do.

  • @Dirtyro0ster
    @Dirtyro0ster Před rokem +1

    Were you meant to go left lane, to middle lane, to outside lane of the roundabout? They're honestly the hardest part for learning to drive, every roundabout is an adjustment to what a roundabout should be like.

    • @marco7838
      @marco7838 Před rokem

      By my understanding on the approach there are 2 lane which open to 3 lanes.

    It's hard to see the road properly in this video, so that makes it harder to see whats going on. Being from a country where road lines and signs are much better I feel English roundabouts are a bit dangerous. But taking a look at the road from Google map, I can see the mistake much better, there was enough room to keep to the left but I can understand that mistaks can happend if you are new in this situation or easyly get confused . But road lines suck big time in many places in England. It's the system's own fault that so many accidents happen. they should make sure lines can be seen better.
