  • Someone left a comment asking for a Synthesizer V tutorial, and at first I thought there's a bunch of videos by Dreamtonics already, but then I thought, well, maybe there are some things they don't address. Plus, I don't see a manual anywhere for Synthesizer V Basic.
    Synthesizer V Studio Basic is FREE (available for Windows, Linux, and Mac OS) as are the Lite versions of their voicebanks, so if you want to get into vocal synthesis music production, I think it's hands down the best option. Downloads are at the Dreamtonics website: dreamtonics.com/

    • @AnomieTrain
      @AnomieTrain  Před 3 lety +14

      On the right side, you'll see all these icons. The fifth one down (it has an arrow) is the RENDER button. That's how you render your tracks. You can mixdown everything or just render (export) the individual tracks. It's kind of confusing because a lot of other programs only say "export" whereas in Synth V, you export to Midi or UST, but for audio you "render" it with "Bounce to File" to get a .wav file.

    Hi there. Thanks for your effort. Really appreciated. Maybe you can help. If I grab a group of notes to move them to a different location, maybe one bar earlier, it changes the pitch of the whole group. Is there a function to freeze a group of notes to move them around without the AI changing it? Cheers

    • @AnomieTrain
      @AnomieTrain  Před rokem

      Do you mean that you've made some pitch edits, and then when you move the notes, it will change? Do you have Instant Mode turned on? That will automatically make adjustments every time you do something to a note. You can turn Instant Mode off and then manually run Auto Pitch on any notes that you've highlighted. Or, if you want to keep Instant Mode on, I'd wait until you've finished all your note placements before making manual edits to the pitch.

    Hey, thanks for this video! I understand that there is no midi input available here, but do you think it’s possible to copy the midi notes from a melody you created in your DAW (Logic Pro X in my case) and paste into Synthesizer V to apply it to the vocal track?

    • @AnomieTrain
      @AnomieTrain  Před 2 lety

      I had to refresh my memory as to what I was talking about. I think what I meant was, with the AI voicebanks, you can use the Auto Pitch Tuning as a base--then you can go back and do any manual tweaking whereas, with the Std voicebanks, it's all manual tuning. Of course, you don't have to use Auto Pitch Tuning with AI voicebanks--you can just tune the same way as you would with Std voicebanks if you want.

    After the 2nd or 3rd time I opened the program. I dragged in some Midi to add lyrics to the notes and somehow grayed and muted all the notes and I can't unmute them even toggling the mute button. It's almost like the program has died. Is there a way to reset everything back to default settings or fix my mute problem? Also is their a place to hear the note as I write it in real time like Vocaloid? I really loved it at first and love working with digital singers. Any help appreciated.

    • @AnomieTrain
      @AnomieTrain  Před 2 lety +2

      If you have notes overlapping other notes, they become greyed out. It sounds like somehow midi notes got merged onto an existing track that already has notes in them--maybe. If you scroll down, do you see any notes that are an octave below? You might want to start with a fresh, blank file and bring in your midi again. If the midi file has multiple tracks, you should get a dialog box that gives you a choice which one to bring into the track.
      Synthesizer V doesn't have note preview. It's kind of a pain. I have to click on the piano keys to hear the note--so I'm going back and forth with my mouse from the grid where I'm drawing the note to the keyboard. I think it actually used to have a preview function in the beta version but they took it out--maybe for performance reasons?

      @@AnomieTrain I thank you so much for this help. I was so frustrated I kept trying to figure out the problem and finally realized that EXACTLY what you wrote here was the problem and no other tutorial explains this glitch anywhere. Other than that it's an outstanding program for even what you get with the basic version is darn near more functional than paid vocaloid in some respects. That drawing note curves is incredible, and is definitely better than emvoice which I almost considered buying a license for but now I don't need to. Thank you again for your awesome help and explaining this to me. Had I not figured out through trial and error, you solved my puzzle right here.

    When I try to put an instrumental track in the program it says "Invalid input. Failed to load the audio file". I used a .wav file for the instrumental. This has been happening on synthesizer V studio and the original. I can't find anything online about how to fix this issue. I've only seen people ask how to fix this issue with the hours of googling I've done. Do you know how I could possibly fix this?

    • @AnomieTrain
      @AnomieTrain  Před 3 lety +2

      How are you creating the .wav file? I'm going to guess and say there is something weird about the file. Not all .wav files are the same. For instance, if I create a .wav file and save it as PCM raw data, I won't get an error when I load it into Synth V Studio, but it won't play. The .wav file format should be Windows PCM or ACM waveform.

    I’m back, since I have another question: what types of music files does SynthV support?
    The reason I’m asking is that I intend to use the program to make Japanese covers of existing songs (that’s why I wanted to know where to get the free female Japanese voicebanks) and I need to know what file type the instrumental version of the song I’m covering should use. That way I don’t get an error message saying something like “That file type is not supported” and I’m left scrambling to figure out how to change the file type for the instrumental.
    Thanks!

    • @AnomieTrain
      @AnomieTrain  Před 4 měsíci +1

      Your instrumental backing track should be in .wav format. It can actually import mp3 files, but you should not use mp3 because the timing will be off. Synthesizer V will actually warn you and let you convert it to a .wav file.

    I wonder if its possible to add effects like reverb directly on here. For my songs i pretty much just use this purely for singing synthesis and then export this to a browser daw to add reverb. I notice some songs on youtube seem to straight up use the voice without applying any reverb.

    • @AnomieTrain

      Yeah, I do all processing on my DAW as well. Even if Synthesizer V had effects, I wouldn't use them (Vocaloid 5 had built in effects but I never used them either). I don't like to add too much to vocals--always a slight delay then a plate reverb.

      Also, they are going to introduce in version 1.10 ARA support and audio to midi conversion, so someone who doesn't even play keyboards can hum the melody and convert it to midi. Not sure how good that will work, though.

    • @AnomieTrain
      @AnomieTrain  Před měsícem

      It basically boils down to just keep practicing. Just keep writing. Eventually it will come more naturally to you. It's just like learning to talk. When you have a conversation with someone, you don't have to stop and think about it, right? You just do it. It's the same with writing. Don't worry about trying to create some masterpiece. Give yourself arbitrary topics to write about--like it's a homework assignment. Write about being stuck in traffic. Write about being caught in a rainstorm. Again, it doesn't matter if you're interested in the subject. Treat it like an assignment.
      The other thing that can help is using AI. I know a lot of people freak out about using AI, but use it as a tool to help your writing rather as a gimmick to write the song for you. Google Gemini, ChatGPT, try them out. Give them a subject and specify how many lines you want, the structure (verse/chorus/verse/chorus, etc), and see what they come up with. Then edit and revise it (the lyrics they generate can be pretty cheesy).

      To make the instrumental track, I use Studio One Artist for my DAW. Guitar and Bass (actual instruments) are recorded by DI and I normally use an amp sim (bx_bassdude). All the other instruments are done in the program. For drums, I use an old VST called Session Drummer and any other instruments I may use are usually from the Presence XT VST that comes with Studio One.

      That middle bar that separates the Arrangement section and the Piano Roll section--all the way to the right, there are three little horizontal bars--click on that, then Add Paramenter Panel to get it back

      Which voicebank are you using? When you say "noise," does it at least sound like singing, or do you mean like buzzing or something?

      @@YourOneAndOnlyMiMi Sounds like you either didn't install a voice, or you didn't select one. By default, no voice is assigned to a track, so it sounds like a sine wave. Look at the track in the Arrangement Panel on the upper left, and if it says "(No default voice)", then click where it says "(No default voice)" and a popup list of voices should appear that you can select from. If you don't have any voices installed, you'll need to install a voice.

      @@sammpaul Hmmm...let me think. Eleanor is tough to use for covers (IMO) because her vocal tone is hard to place. I always picture her singing children's songs or something, LOL.

      Okay, let's make sure you have all the basics covered. Do you have an actual voicebank loaded? Make sure it doesn't say "No default voice" on the track in the Arrangement box.
      Otherwise, what operating system are you using? Windows 10? What version of Synthesizer V are you using--the latest one?
