Plot: Lady Tremaine, a notorious noble French widow, comes to Paris, the city of romance, in search of a new victim. ( she's notoriously ruthless and has killed other suitors/husbands for their life insurance ) She has an eye for Claude Frollo, a powerful judge of the city, but he has his own secret vice and pleasure within the walls of his home.
She comes to his home and introduces herself, subtly flirting with him. Frollo is off put by her advances but before he can continue Esmeralda comes in looking for Frollo and gives him a hug. Tremaine becomes shocked by her display of affection and soon learns she has this bohemian beauty to call her competition
A few days go by and Frollo finds himself confused by his love for Esmeralda. Tremaine abruptly comes in, requesting his presence with her as a date to some noble party. Frollo angrily rejects her and climbs the stair to a private chamber of his house where Esmeralda and he are supposed to meet. They spend the remainder of the evening making love in front of the fire place.
Later that night, Lady Tremaine makes unexpected arrival back at Frollo's house, fully aware of his unholy coupling with the gypsy wench. She's determined to call him out and hold it above his head. Tremaine catches the two in the act and is appalled by the sight. Frollo and Esmeralda are caught red handed and Frollo jumps on the defensive. Tremaine chastises them and threatens black mail upon Frollo to release the scandal, Esme insults her and Tremaine threatens to use her personal power and guards ( Phoebus ) to burn her at the pyre. Frollo begrudgingly accepts and leaves upon her guards arriving, not wanting to cause a scene. Esmeralda calls out to him and he turns but Tremaine stops her from running to him and further threatens to kill her. Esme is disgusted and they argue but Tremaine leaves rather quickly, leaving behind an appalled gypsy.
Days pass and Tremaine has made a spectacle of her and Frollo in public, some even believing they're courting. But during the Festival of Fools, Esme dances in a beautiful dress and catches Frollo's eye, one uping Tremaine, showing her she'll never have her looks, charm or man. Realizing she's been publically embarrassed, she calls for Esme to burn at the pyre.
Tremaine belittles Esme in front of a raging crowd, completely believing Frollo would never go as far as saving the gypsy girl from death's embrace, his title, wealth and name far to important. However, as she set fire to the gypsy, Frollo is on horse back, completely aware of everything he is about to lose all for the sake of a poor gypsy girls love and affections. He charges forward on his black stallion, stealing her away from the pyre as chaos ensues.
They flee out to a distant city before stopping. Frollo cuffs her face, praying to God that she's not dead. In the same instant, Esme awakens to a desperate Frollo and they kiss, finally away the ostracizing public and the evil Lady Tremaine.

I can only wonder what Lady Tremaine is whispering in Esmeralda’s ear when she strokes her poor throat like that. Though I’ll admit, her neck is an exposed target. I know it’s wrong on so many levels, but I find it disturbingly sexy. Like she’s being intentionally cruel, using intimacy as a punishment. She knows she’s got dominance over her, and she abuses that power with hateful lustfut gestures. Who else is wicked and twisted enough to use torture as nurture?
