    Hoping that they will add in Orks and Eldar at some point, shifting it to include 'Great Crusade' era stuff, too.

    Really not sure if any of Epic 40,000 and Epic Armageddon are going to be in this edition. It seems like this is just 2nd edition. Seeing how much of a departure Epic 40,000 and Epic Armageddon where from 2nd, I think it isn’t possible to make a hybrid of them all, they were just too different.
    That all said, I can see this becoming my go-to GW game.

      Yeah it won’t be a bad thing it’s only centred around second edition. And yes this may be the first box game I buy for myself from GW in like forever!

    Superb. 2nd Ed was best game they produced bar none. Best way to play in 40k universe.
    So tempted. Hope I'm not priced out.

      Yeah I totally agree with this statement, this game has potential. Yes let’s hope they are kind with the pricing! 🤞

    I owed all editions of Epic & I completely agree. 1st edition the infantry was to OP. Then 2nd edition was just about perfect. I thought in later editions that the barrage rule made sense but really ruined the play of the game. So hopefully this one won’t have that rule.

    • @JonnyWatsonGaming
      @JonnyWatsonGaming  Před rokem +2

      Yeah second was near perfect imo. This game is looking good so far it’s just a shame it’s not 40k but that might come (maybe)

    Never played the older systems but the rules so far looks all good to me. I wonder if GW is going to make a Ruinstorm Daemon faction if they're going to port all 30k factions into new epic?

    • @JonnyWatsonGaming
      @JonnyWatsonGaming  Před rokem +2

      Well they mentioned other factions so it is very possible. We can only wait and see 👌👍

    The oxed set is a turd. Well unless they are giving it away. The only reason to get it is to get the rules. You can't make an army out of the marines as they can only use one tank option, and there are two in the box, and you can only use one of them at a time. No transports.. Yay! They put dice and bendy sticks in the box like it's a starter box, but it's far from that. I really liked the older set with the paper/plastic buildings, but glad they have moved to 2nd edition rules.

    • @JonnyWatsonGaming
      @JonnyWatsonGaming  Před rokem

      Yes the buy in will be more than the main box set. 🙁 but same a you happy about the rules direction 😀

    • @geeksworkshop
      @geeksworkshop Před rokem

      @JonnyWatsonGaming It's just a badly designed boxed set that comes with dice, bendy sticks, a rulebook, and some random models. The game itself looks great as do the models 👌

    Having played a lot of second edition and a lot of Epic Armageddon, it’s a shame they decided on a copy-paste of second edition and not Epic Armageddon , which I vastly prefer. I think they did go with Space Marine due to it being the one that built the following for the game, but I think it’s not going to be doing that this time around.
    The integrated turn structure in Armageddon is much better, for me, of course, and even though they’ve reduced the bolter range from the original 50 cm to 20, I don’t see why they would need to make a game where it needs 2 special rules, for such a basic weapon in Heresy era,. I also get that it’s a recommendation but going down to 5x4 table when you have larger miniatures sounds like not fun at all, and it’s going to be the standard... I totally disliked the way CC was handled, as it feels clunky, and so was disappointed here as well.
    I’ve never played a game that modelled combined arms better than Epic Armageddon, even most historical ones, so this was a let-down for me. To be frank, I’d prefer them to not base the game in anything we know rather than doing this.
    Of course, this is purely my opinion, so I wish you guys nothing but the best if it’s to your liking.

      I think for me second edition was the game that got me into wargaming so I probably have rose tinted glasses on right now. However for me when they changed the game to Armageddon it lost is charm some how but that’s only me talking there.
      The thing is with regards to regurgitating rules GW have done this for decades now on all their games. I’m not sure they have written new rules for like 15 years now 😂

    • @rastamann2009
      @rastamann2009 Před rokem

      @@JonnyWatsonGaming You're right, on both accounts, of course. In my case, I used to view second edition with the same rose tinted glasses, as it was also how I got into GW systems back in the day, but a couple of years ago I decided to go back to it. I tried it as written, then went to NetEpic, as it also has an alternating activation by phases, like LImp does.
      Going back to the system was a massive mistake, for me - over the course of a few games of SM2/TL, it destroyed my youth memories of a spectacular game: compared to how Epic Armageddon plays (and it was very difficult for me not to engage in this comparison, being an Epic Armageddon fan since it's release), it felt clunky and unnecessarily cumbersome, the combined arms aspect of it went out the window, progressive degradation of detachments was non-existant, and several other problems I encountered. I hated it now, and was left with a sour taste in my mouth.

      It’s funny how as gamers we evolve over time and work out what we like and don’t.
      I’ve not had the same experience myself all games I’ve played of second ed have been great fun and a trip down memory lane. That said I’m very much a beer and pretsals kinda gamer when I play. 👍

      agree with this. cut my gaming teeth on 2nd ed as a teen in around 1993-1994. Left and came back 25 years later to discover EA, long after it had gone out of print. Love it. Really think it's the apex of wargaming. Have fond memories of 2nd but no inclination to revisit. Not bothered much about what rules the new (5th) ed will have. I'll give it a go but will probably continue playing EA with friends and there seems to be strong community that will be hard pushed to move to 5th if it turns out to be a commercial rehash of netepic. Just pleased to see some renewed focus on epic scale. The larger models on smaller board does seem particularly odd and counterintuitive to 'sweeping epic battles.
