    For me (22 years old), I started getting into miniature wargaming right when Fantasy was discontinued. I was enamored with the cover art for the Vampire Counts codex but Age of Sigmar felt soulless.
    For the last decade I’ve gotten into other games but I’ve always wanted to play fantasy. In the meantime I watched lore videos and played Warhammer Total War because I loved the setting.
    Age of Sigmar almost got me to jump in a few times but now that Old World is here I’m going in headfirst.

    Great video, really happy that WFB is back.
    Sadly I think Oathmark will fade into obscurity, the game has struggled to get popular before TOW, now with it released it will be incredibly hard for it to gain ground. Which is a shame as it does something very well that TOW doesn’t, and that is command and control.
    Also, great to hear you guys doing these talks again! Fantastic for doing some hobby.

    • @JonnyWatsonGaming
      @JonnyWatsonGaming  Před 6 měsíci +1

      Yeah it almost certainly seems the end of any growth to Oathmark. I think there will be a core set of players that stay with it. But it won’t grow, not now ToW is out.
      Yes it’s good to get chatting again with James, so we will do it when there’s something worth talking about rather than forcing the issue but doing something each week. 👍👌

    nice, really enjoyed it. One thing just to mention on the models being potentially more overpriced than modern AoS/40k stuff, is that the 3rd party market has a much better range of suitable options for the old world than 40k or AoS does. So making an army with oathmark models or whatever alternative can still be pretty inexpensive

    • @JonnyWatsonGaming
      @JonnyWatsonGaming  Před 6 měsíci

      Ahh thanks mate. Yeah 3rd party models is a real good option for anyone that is not bothered about playing tournaments. It’s also possible the ToW range will spend a lot of the time being sold out so people may not have a choice in some ways.

    Here's a question, a year or two from now, how popular do you think Old World will be compared with 30k v2? I love 30k, and I see Old World and 30k as my favorite Skirmish and Rank-Flank systems from GW. I remember the huge hype for Heresy v2 when it came out in June 2022, but that has cooled a bit. There is an active 30k community that organizes cool events, but if I walk into my local GW store, 98% of games being played are 40k or AoS.
    30k has a niche of older, more mature, players. Not a lot under the age of 20 that I see. And that makes sense, because when you walk into.a Warhammer store, they have limited shelf space. They push 40k and AoS right in your face. Old World and 30k are more games that people already in the know seek out. I don't think a lot of gamers uses 30k as their jumping on point for their first Warhammer game.

    • @ScruffyCrow
      @ScruffyCrow Před 6 měsíci +1

      I think it will stay fairly niche, I doubt it will be on the shelves at GW for long so it will probably mean the funnel will still be 40k & AoS and only if the newbie goes to a local games group that they might see it being played and go down that route.
      Which is a shame but these one man stores don't have the time or resource to even demo something like ToW. I suspect GW will just keep it going in the background as a way to sell old kits that have fallen out of AoS use but id treat them all as limited because I doubt they will be a priority (expecting white boxes before too long).
      It will ultimately be up to the players in local clubs to keep the game going by organising leagues and generating interest. once you have a local group on board you can keep it going indefinitely even if GW never mention it again!

    So in the Bretonnian book you can play the border dudes in Exile and you can take a necromancer or a demonology caster. Those two magics are so good that I have a sneaking suspicion that it may sneak into as a meta pick.

      Bretonnia got 8 new kits.
      Damsel on foot
      new damsel on unicorn
      Grail knights on foot (not out yet)
      Two pegasus kits
      Two new BSBs - foot and horse
      That new paladin with the orc head (I bought most of them :F)

    This is just a typical GW release, and it's entirely intentional. They may come out and state "oh wow, we had no idea people wanted this!" but it's utter rubbish. They've been doing this for nigh-on 5-6 years or more at this point. The intentionally short-run the starter boxes...feeding the FOMO, the scalpers, the "hotness". Then they'll swing in and say "Wow, we're so cool, we're printing more!"...something they should have done before.
    No one needs to cut GW any slack. They're a large, multi-billion dollar company making more or less record profits yearly...nothing they do is by accident or unplanned. They have perfectly crafted their consumer base for max profit...and will likely continue to do so as long as it works.

    • @JonnyWatsonGaming
      @JonnyWatsonGaming  Před 6 měsíci +2

      You know what I agree with you here. When you sit back and think about it there are very few accidents/unthought about moves in business.
      Perhaps they knew when they killed it 10 years ago they knew they would be rereleasing it again many years down the line to hit that FOMO spend. But it’s back which is the main thing 👍

    • @rotm4447
      @rotm4447 Před 6 měsíci

      They obviously aren't infallible or they wouldn't have made a product line that failed 9 years ago. They had little reason to think there would be high demand for their nostalgia bait cash grab so they absolutely did do a small run and then sent out half of that as promotion material. Its questionable if they even have the capacity to make more than they did, or if it would have been to any benefit to do so, given that they can barely keep what already do make before deciding to launch this in stock as it is.

    • @JonnyWatsonGaming
      @JonnyWatsonGaming  Před 6 měsíci

      Yeah it could be a game that is always sold out, with it being a specialist game it won’t sit high in the pecking order. This is where 3rd party miniature companies will do well out of it, assuming GW don’t make the demand. Hopefully they do tho 👌👍

    ''this book should be in everyones hands''
    even new players? cuz that 8th book had big how to paint build pin file assemble all shorts of models and how to tell your own stories.. something a new player would probably want. So I wouldnt say any of it is nonsense

    • @JonnyWatsonGaming
      @JonnyWatsonGaming  Před 6 měsíci

      Agreed it’s not nonsense and you are right for a new player those parts of 8th were very useful. But do you think this game is aimed at new players? I’m not so sure, I get the impression that’s what AoS is for and this is for those who longed for the Old World to return.
