Great Video! thank you for sharing and this covers the exact upgrades I want to make with my 3XXL. I already have the upgraded Spindle and the Shapeoko bit setter (which I never use because I don't understand how..lol) I want to add the ATC and start opening up all the options for my machine!

Thanks a lot for all the information. I wonder why did you chose an air-cooled spindle and not a water cooled one? I guess the air-cooled is less hassle for the installation. But I guess the water-cooled spindle would be even quieter and because it has no fan I guess it would not clog up as easy as a air-cooled spindle. Correct? What I write is all theory. I still have to build my first CNC and I plan to use a Duet 3 and at least some of your tips and software.
Good luck on your first CNC build! We chose the air cooled spindle because of the less hardware. Did not want to deal with pumps and other things like that. (Leaks, replacing fluids, and added cost)
The spindle is sufficiently quite (especially in our noise insulated enclosure) so the small decrease you might get with a water cool system wasn’t worth it for us. For dust mitigation the upcoming video will solve that concern.
@@Jenkins_Robotics Thanks for your fast and detailed reply. Maybe in the future you can talk a little more about the noise levels and what you do to isolate the noise. I think about running my machine in an apartment and I want to know how much I have to isolate it - maybe also put the machine or table on rubber. Thanks!
@@edgar9651 and @jenkins Robotics: I am starting my Shapeoko 3 XL conversion to spindle and Duet3. First thing that is really annoying me is the Chinese VFD fan is so noisy. Haven't powered up the water cooled spindle yet - but I think it is safe to say the fan will be much louder than the spindle.... Looking for a quiet powerful 24v fan replacement...

Do you recommend the Duet for a controller / interface / etc? new to cnc and looking at controllers/software
Duet is really a 3d printer controller that adding cnc functionality. I have notice some standard gcode Isnt supported … if u specifically want a cnc Their are newer controller that should be better . Specifically something that supports GRBL
Duet isn’t bad just to clarify but if i was making a new system i would consider other options
I greatly appreciate you taking the time to respond! I’m looking at the RatRig Stronghold as my first CNC. I like the Duet from a hardware standpoint but there doesn’t seem to be much support for it being used in CNC. I think the xPro V5 is now my top contender (maybe ESS but I don’t know much about Mach4 or if it’s anymore complicated to setup).
Im trying to "copying" your set up, but for a KillerBee cnc.. Can/will you tell me what the 24v relays are (brand/model)

Hi
I'm currently running an almost identical setup (minus the toolchanger, fans and dust collector) to you but im facing some issues with the spindle (note, using your gcode minus the toolchanger, fans and dust collector stuff). Currently, for the spindle to be accessible for duet to control, i press the start button on the vfd (can i fix that?). Another thing, to set the spindle speed M3 S240 P0 it works but when i try to change the speed to by M3 S1000 P0, nothing happens (regardless of spindle speed). It only work when I go M3 S240 P0, M5 then M3 S1000 P0. Is there any way to fix that?
I will many a more specific video just on the spindle. That should help you.
Could you do a version for onfinity journeyman?
We don’t currently have a onefinity… if we obtain one in the future we will make and release a similar upgrade

Replacing the motherboard should be possible for all platforms .. so yes the xcarve can. Be upgraded to use a duet and the. Spindle /tool changer
