- I'm going to skip over part 2 of this set and cut to the chase with this thing. BUY ONE!
My wife and I are blown away at how easy it is to change tires here at the farm now. A little lube and a little muscle and pow! You can swap out a old tire for a new one in less than 10 minutes.
This is another one of those tools that I will spend the rest of my life asking "Why didn't I buy that 20 years ago?". - Jak na to + styl
Finally somebody that knows how to use this correctly!!!!
I have watched a bunch of other videos and people were struggling horribly! You made it look soooo simple. Its amazing how a job looks so simple when you use the right tools correctly! Nicely done!
They all use steel wheels. Doesnt work with real world wheels
Great video
Huh? While he is one of the few people to use the mount head to mount correctly, he also used it for demounting. While it worked, that’s definitely not correct. Not sure why everyone ITT is saying that he “use[d] the right tools correctly” and “did everything right.” He deserves credit for getting the hard part right but that doesn’t mean the rest was perfect.
WARNING! NOT AS EASY AS THIS GUY MADE IT LOOK. You notice that the tire he put on was very elastic and stretched over the rim no problem. It all matters what type of tire you are trying to mount, if it's new or used, does it have a thick side wall ect.. This is a very well done tutorial and helped me a lot. Just don't beat your self up like I did if the tire doesn't slip on so gracefully as it does in this demonstration.
Patience + Faith = Grace. I gave the thumbs up and subscribed. thanks Fairpoint Farms
Absolutely! A modern performance tire isn't gonna be anywhere near this easy to change.
Great demonstration. Simple, clear and straight to the point. I need two new tires and can't seem to find size 14 in stock. I'm liking this.
I have been using one for over a year now ( tire changer and balancer) , Have even changed 8 lug heavy duty tires with them. I bought the two tire irons from harbor freight... sometimes makes it a little easier on tires with funky rim drop centers. It has saved me a good bit of cash, really like it
You're the man Eric, I just bought one of these tire changers so I can do ATV tires more easily. Your demonstration was great!
Glad to hear it helps!
Wow - you did make it look easy! Great job.
Thanks for the video, Definitely going to get one for changing small tires. Something I probably should’ve had a long time ago.
I dismounted and mounted up to 18" tires with this tool , saved hundreds of $ .
Thanks for the video, I've been undecided for over a year to buy or not one of these, back on the agenda as most garages won't fit PWs and I have a few for my car to use. Wasn't sure how it worked, but your video has shown it.
Im in my 70th yr,and bought one last week for $60. Mounted it an 3/4" 4' x4' slab of plywood.. Changed my first tire today! Was not bad, but mounting new tire was hardest part. I feel great! Until now, the only tires i ever changed, were bicycle tires. This item wil l save me lots of money!
You should be proud that you did that- The new tires are tougher since the rubber is new-
Actually, it was an 9ld used tire i put on P235/75/15@@FarpointFarms
Eric, great series of diy mounting and balancing videos. Thank you!
Glad you like them!
@@FarpointFarms it looks like the arm is adjustable to accommodate the removal of bigger tires. I am thinking about using it to mount 315 70 17 onto 17 9.5 wide rims. Mounting shouldn't be a problem, correct? Will this be doable when it comes time to remove the tires?
Slow clap to you, Finally some one who uses this tool correctly showing how the tire dis-mount and mount was intended to work. Nice!
Thanks! I'm an actual mechanic, so I know how to actually change tires. Spread the word!
I watched another review of this tool and now I understand its user error. The other reviewer had no clue what they were doing! You made this look easy.
It certainly helps if you know what your doing right? It's a good little setup for sure.
Great and clear demonstration. I hope to see more of your videos.
Thank you!
Wait till July ,, I promise you’ll break a sweat 😓 in those humid mountains haha , good job man . As always , very informative. Have a blessed day , enjoy this nice spring weather before the sauna begins
The H F tire changer worked great. I didn't have a place to mount it to concrete floor. I used a 3" muffler clamp and a 30" piece of unistrut to secure the changer to the 2" receiver on my Jeep. The changer moves around some but lets you use the force needed to do the job.
Good idea!
That's a great idea!!
Great job on showing how to use the tire changer.your the first person to show how to use the bar correctly, hat off to you sir..
Glad it was helpful!
I tried it his way, but had to do it with the other nub of the bar for it to work... (new tires, 16" steel wheels) ~
NIce! Thanks for the clear description. Now I'm off to put 6 new tires on my CanAm Defender.
Glad to help
Great demo. You covered a lot of important information too. 👍
Thanks for posting, I'm going to buy one today and was wondering how to use it the right way. I've always have good luck with what Harbor Freight tools. If you don't beat on them they last.
The people I've seen having problems with them usually have not had the the tire changer securely mounted. Having it anchored to the concrete is best. When i was renting I coudn't drill holes in the garage floor so I picked up and old door someone was tossing out and bolted it to that. As long as the platform is solid and large enough for you to stand on so it can't move I haven't had any problem. A generous amount of lube also helps. I've always used dish soap myself. Squirt it out, splash some water on it, run over it with a brush and it cleans off any dirt and provides lubricant.
Great video. I had exactly the same experience.
Bought it, bolted it down then swapped over 4 tyres in about 30 minutes. I stood there thinking how did anyone say this tool is no good.
Great video 👍.. gonna buy one today.
Great video direct to the point going to go buy one.
Glad it was helpful!
Old school! Back when you could actually jack up a car by the bumper, I worked at Western Auto after graduating high school and this was all we had. Got to where I could do 4 tires, start to finish, in about an hour. And that included bubble balancing. The owner made a fortune with me as I was being paid $1.25 an hour. Now, my hourly wage increased a bit more since then but the satisfaction of a job well done was never about the money , for me.
Cool memories. Too many guys (and gals) are only in it for a dollar. Never for the satisfaction of a job well done.
Wow! You made it look so easy! I hope I have the same luck with mine 2mro!
Lol how'd it go?
Good video, people buy that machine need to watch your teaching here! I have used soap for years to do tire work, also you can buy something called tire mounting soap or lube . Lubeing the bead before you break it down, stepping on the sidewall with your feet will help the Lube work work its way into the bead area for some of the more stubborn tires. The trick is Lube tire before you break the bead , Lube tire before you remove it from the wheel, Lube new tire before installing. use a generous amount of lube.
I been watching this dude for cb stuff...lol..pretty cool seeing this content from him.
Outstanding. Truly well done.
Not a bad little tool. I've used the heck out of it these last 12 months and it's still working great.
WOW, at 6:20 your the first and only person I seen use one of these HF manual tire changers so easily putting a tire on with that stock bar. Now I have to watch this 3 more times out of unbelief, then try to figure out why cant I have such a problem.
Although I've never used one of these, I will admit that I have been a mechanic for close to 30 years. I think that may have given me an unfair advantage.
You are the man. Thank you so much!
Nice job. Seen some other videos of people using these and they are doing it wrong. You used the tool properly and it actually worked like it should!! Imagine that. LOL. Keep up the nice videos!!
Good tip on tire sensor.
I Started working in Gas Stations in the 50's. This all we had at the time. Brings back a lot of memories!!When we got a Coats 10/10 we thought we had gone to heaven!!! Great Video, thanks........
Right on! And if the girls were cute or had shorts on we didn't wash the windshield WE POLISHED IT!
HA! Oh man that's classic.
Discovered your channel today - impressive collection of videos...
I'm wondering if it would be feasible to mount this to a frame work of 2x6's (big enough to stand on while applying leverage).
Also, is this useful for changing small lawn tractor tires?
I'd like to see someone do low profiles on one of these. They are generally the hardest to mount. On a pneumatic machine we make use of some secondary parts of the machine to push or press the tire into position.
I refuse to do low profile or massive LT truck tires here at the shop with this. Those are better suited for a powered machine.
Great video! I have been wondering how easy it would be. I think you talked me into giving it a try on my next set of tires.
I would recommend it!
I like this video you make it seems so easy i am encouraged
With a lot of soap, it's not hard at all!
Love the posters
found this video when looking at the tire changer at Harbor Freight's web site. read a review mentioning You Tube had great videos about how to use this tool. your video did the trick for me and I'll be ordering mine very soon. any how must have been fate that I landed here. I'm located 16 miles east of Raleigh NC so I just had to sub to your channel. thanks for a great review and demonstration of the tire changer.
Nice to meet you and welcome to the channel!
Woah, can tell you've done this a time or two!
Am getting me one because of your video thanks for posting
Can't wait for your balancing video.
Sold. I'm headed down to buy one now.
Cool I didn't know that they sold a tire changer nice posters
Elvira! A left over from my youth.
Many people don't understand how to use the wheels drop center to help the tire pull over the rim edge. They end up fighting themselves and then blame it on the tire changer.
You also can't have the tire changer mounted to a pallet that looks like it will crack when you step on it.
Thanx 4 the show. Make it look much easier than the last vid I watched, but then again he had a piss poor set up. Only 2 anchor bolts used and wasn’t able to just spin around like you did.
Hey 👋
I learned something new
Subscribed 👍
Thanks
Thanks for the sub!
I dare say, that tire is far easier than some. Still, good video - excellent pace, articulate, good sound, excellent videography - overall well done.
Thanks for the kind words!
FANTASTIC VIDEO
Thanks for the no nonsense walk-thru. Will this work on 20" rims?
Thank you for your video, make it very easily .
I'm sold, I'm always changing tires. So this would save me a few bucks...Thanks
You got it! I've become the Harbor Freight guy as of late. This is what happens when they build one less than an hour away.
Love the posters ;-)
Thank you
Great video 👍
Honestly, best video on this thing. I am totally getting one. BTW have you seen the laser mod for balancing. its brilliant.
Great demonstration dude better then most
Thanks! I was surprised at how easy it all went off and on. Lots of lube and don't force it. I'm about 75 tires into this unit now and other than a small bend in the bar, it still works great!
incredible 😍
i see that you are a smart man bc you also have the balancing machine 😁
Elvira. I like it. Good video
7:02 That is where you can stop and place the wheel on the balancer and rotate the tire on the rim a bit to minimize or even eliminate the need for weights. Then air it up. Only the good tire shops will fiddle around like that but for a DIY'er, go for it!
great job
Great video very helpful thanks
Glad it was helpful!
I like your wall poster😁
I did enjoy this video
You make this look so easy. I am struggling and can't get the tire on. I'm stuck on putting it on and the last quarter turn just won't move.
Same
You look and talk like an older version of Andy Bernard from The Office. xD
wanted to learn this craft. I want a selection from you. Is it good? Thank you
great demo...
Love this thing, I've done over 100 tires since I got it, and it's still hanging in there.
Ha I'm a tad embarrassed I've been fighting mine wondering if it was really worth the money then I see you do it and it hits me...1.) I need to bolt mine down, that'll be a big help instead of dancing with the thing and 2.) I've had the tire upside down everytime...haha all you can do is laugh when you realize how absent minded you've been lol thanks Eric love the videos man
Totally needs to be bolted down. I doubt I could have done a single tire if I had to dance with it. I have a part 2 that shows how I bolted it to the garage floor without having studs sticking up, but I didn't think anyone would want to watch it so i skipped it. Maybe I'll put it up next week so you can see how I did it.
As for the tire being upside down, dang that must have made it REALLY interesting! There are a few fancy "Reverse mount" rims, but 99.9% of them would be a flat side up. We live and we learn brother, we live and we learn.
@@FarpointFarms I would appreciate a video on how you bolted to the concrete floor. Just discovered your video and great content.
I'll upload it this Week! Glad you like the channel. It's a bit of everything That I do here on the farm, plus my hobbies. The fact that it isn't a single focus type channel turns some people off, but I think of it more as a TV station. You watch the shows that interest you and ignore the ones that don't.
Bought one yesterday used it this morning. The weakest part is the bead breaker arm. I can bend it with my bare hands. Other than that its just ok.
Might work okay for light Honda tires but I'd like to see you do some bigger tires. I just tried changing 15 inch light truck tires and broke the tool immediately. It wouldn't break the bead ( I ended up using my log splitter). I bent the bar immediately bent the stand at the bottom and the weld broke on the keeper that goes on top of the rim. Worked at it for a couple hours and still never got the tire off. Seems like it's crap to me. I'm probably going to go return it all been up and everything.
LUBE! I have only done one set of LT tires, but many many many sets of 14,15,16,17 and maybe one set of 19's with this setup and they worked great. The freaking LT tires though have super tough and thick beads and you are correct, they just don't want to break when you try to pop the seal. I stopped offering to do those after that one set of 15 LT's as well, but thankfully the machine made it!
I'd say I'm somewhere over 200 tires at this point and it's still hanging in there, but the bar is pretty beat up.
Now what technique and product to use when need to patch a tire and how big should the hole be for it
Great idea for another video. You will have to keep a look out for it once I make it.
how much does the tubeless motorcycle tire opener cost?
Have you tried this on a cosmetically nice aluminum wheel. It looks like it would to major damage to the rim from the start of laying it on its face to breaker the bead then dragging the bar on the lip of the rim with no plastic protector. Seems only good for wheels your not concerned about scratching or those covered later with hubcaps
Or you could think outside the box and put a cheap rug on the ground when breaking the bead and using some plastic wire loom or something on the bar to not damage it..
Excellent!
Could you include how to pull and replace the inflator on one of your videos?
Thanks
Will do!
Lube is a life saver. Lol never done this in your life ? Looked like you've been doing it your whole life.
I was shocked at how easy it was.
I’m having a hard time getting my Volvo rims off. Their snow tires and aluminum Volvo rims. I got one side after hour.
He made it look easy. Don't expect that if you've never done it before. I'm trying my first mount with this same setup right now and it's not going well.
Lube!! Lots of lube, and don't force anything. Just let the tool do it's thing.
If I'm not mistaking are you located in Shelby? Grew up in Crouse/cherryville and think I heard of your farm. But I appreciate your video showing it can be easy if you use your brain. The small farm I work for just got the H.F. tire changer and works good. It takes a little more backend to do front kabota wheels but manageable. Keep up the good work.
Damn, you make it look soo easy! The other videos are deplorable.
Elvira...good man!
Thanks, man.
I lost attention from 2 minutes on, because of the Elvira posters. Totally worth watching if even just for those. “Tire what-now?” 😁🇨🇦👍🏼
Did you have to bolt the tire changer base to garage floor? I'm only asking because I'm thinking that whole mechanism would move while making your turns and removing tire with pipe.
I did, they sell these insets that you can set into the concrete so they are flush with ground level if you remove them. That way I can out this away if I am not using it.
@@FarpointFarms Thank you sir
Did you say used dish soap for the Lube mixed with water That's what I used to UseChange my dirt bike tires
For a first try!!!! Nice!!
Since filming this I've do a LOT of tires with it. I did run into an issue with one set of 13's, but other than that it is still working great!
Thanks 👍
Does this work on utv tire too
Will it do atv tires?
Wow - you made it look easy!
I swear it really was as easy as it looked. You can see in the video that even I was surprised at how quickly it worked.
SevenFortyOne
because it is!
You make this look sooooo easy ! My question is ; How much force is required by the hands
(pounds ) on the end of the bar for the dismount ,starting at 4:33 for the removal of outside of
tire ... My guess is 25# , correct me ...At age 87 , I am not as strong as I once was ....
In a lot of cases, you can just use your body weight against something instead of having to use a lot of muscle power. Getting old sucks... I can remember when I could grab two 50-lb bags of animal feed, toss it over my shoulder, and take it into the barn... These days, I end up using a hand truck to carry the 50-lb bags of dog food from my car to the house... I could still carry it on a shoulder if I HAD to, but why exert the effort and punish my bum knee anymore than is absolutely necessary... Work SMART, not HARD...
Have you used this on a tractor tire yet?
I've been toying with the idea to buy this for probably 10 years, but in my mind there's no way that it could brake the bead; when I've worked at wally world TLE and Fire Stone the bead brakers have so much force to brake the beads I didn't think this (I) could do it (at home I've tried braking the bead with a jack under the pickup's bumper and the pickup starts lifting and the opposite side of the tire would lift up. Watching this video, you just sold another HF tire changer; I'm going to HF tomorrow and buying one. BTW if you try, you should be able to get the inner bead on without using the bar by twisting the tire on the rim (that's what I do/did). I've worked with a tech whos half my size and can get both beads on, on a tractor trailer rim (I never could) with no machine or bar always putting me to shame.
I'm buying something. I just got a 90minute workout doing this with spoons on two tires.
I've used spoons. This is certainly better!
Yea I did one and said it's a wrap
Don't know how you did that but I fought with mine for over an hour trying to get one Chevy 14 inch steely unmounted..tried another with only a 2 year old tire same thing...the bead breaker is no good and the bar is no good..today is July 4..it goes back tomorrow..glad I live close to a store..
Did you use soap or lube? I think that is the key to these things.
@@FarpointFarms Tried everything..soap, silicone, then ATF..at least the exercise did me no harm and the refund was no hassle..
When you started breaking the beed it look like the tire was about to win that fight becuase i saw the pole bending so much
I’ve been trying for days just to get one tire mounted. Can someone please help me see what I’m doing wrong?
Send me a video and I'll show you.
What do you use to set the bead?
regular air pressure from my compressor has worked so far!
Can I use old motor oil or canola oil as lube?
It should be fine.
