And people never give Nick Mason the recognition he deserves on drums, he can be a beast
Nick Mason's drumming is outstanding!
Gilmore screaming to the ghost of Pompeii with his guitar, Epic!!!
This is hands down my favourite Pink Floyd recording. I've repeatedly gone back to it for the last 35 years, and it never gets old for me. I used to have it on VHS tape, but I literally wore the tape out!
I really enjoyed seeing your reaction to it. :-)
Haven't you got the DVD..it shouldn't wear out..keep on rocking....
I was 23 years old 48 years ago when this came out.... Still one of the great riffs
As someone commented before, playing in an empty stadium for a future audience.
I always thought of it as playing to an ancient audience that are there in spirit only.
@@jack-1955 That's an interesting take.
Playing for an infinite audience...
for a Covid audience
You guys got me watching the entire concert at Pompeii and I'm ok with that :)
My favorite live performance of theirs. Hoping for part 2 and/or âCareful With that Axe Eugeneâ from the same show! đ„đ„âïž
And/or Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun :)
Careful with that axe and one of these days are my favorite from live at Pompeii
bro don't forget saucerful of secrets
Agree hundred percent w Careful w That Axe!
Hey Hey John! Nice seeing you here. Here's a hint...Farmingville Burger King. LOL
One of the greatest bits of music created
There is Pink Floyd then everyone else
âDavid Gilmour is such a good guitaristâ ahem, Gilmour is the greatest of all time. Nobody and I mean NOBODY can tell a story like he does on the guitar
Agreed, my favourite guitarist
I agree, but spell his name right next time...
God bless Leo Fender for inventing the Stratocaster so Mr. Gilmour could master it....
I wanted a guitar for a x-mas when i was kid. I'm 100% sure, guitars want David Gilmour for a x-mas
Get the spelling right bro. The MAN is the greatest guitarist music has ever known...!
Can't believe y'all didn't comment on sexy shirtless Dave Gilmour
Paul R đ€©
My favorite version of Echoes. And maybe my favorite Pink Floyd song of all time.
Years later, David Gilmour recorded another concert at Pompeii. After Pink Floyd's final break up, RIchard Wright continued to perform and tour with David's solo band. You'll notice (especially in part II) a direct interplay, sort of a conversation, between guitar and keyboards. But after Richard passed away, David vowed to never perform Echos again, since that "conversation" was so personal, so the last recorded performance was at the "Live at Gdansk" concert video. So in the later DG concert, live at Pompeii, Echos was noticeably missing.
I have that DVD David Gilmour "Live" at Pompeii....I read that they used the beginning note to "Echoes" in the beginning part of the show?...
The Beatles: hey wouldnât be cool to give a concert on a roof?
Pink Floyd: let play in an old coliseum, on thousand of ancient Roman souls.
'Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun', Live at Pompeii is ultra atmospheric.
They recorded a whole concert here, not just echoes. It is fucking fantastic start to finish. They split echoes into two parts, so you may want to find part two to react to.
Roger did get his jab at Andrew Lloyd Webber, though. Listen to his song Itâs A Miracle from his album Amused To Death, and you will see what I mean.
the way this song goes from so smooth and almost relaxed to an almost haunted sound... just even Gilmour's guitar goes from so clean to so screaming.... feels like as they are playing the literal atmosphere/history of *that space* and what happened there like takes them over... and takes over the music. i mean, how *could* you be as in tune to everything as Pink Floyd were and *not* have the haunting history of that place influence you as you express the music as purely as they did?
Dude so stoked you guys did this song and especially this version!
Another song from "live at Pompeii" that you might like to try is "Set the controls for the heart of the sun".
Sista! You are hilarious! What a great song and hypnotic!
that wicked bassline from Waters, out through my massive Mission floorstanders,it pounded me in the chest, love it.
So good!
*gasps*! Haven't even played the reaction yet....dinner with the hubby 1st. I can not wait to plug in my headphones and see this! Epic? I think so....they have so many beautiful songs, my favorite band of all time. Now I have to hurry and have dinner so I can boogie with yall âĄâĄâĄâĄâĄ
đ€Łđ€âđ€
OH MY GOD.Never saw that coming. This was the song i started to fall in love with pink floyd back in high school. Also the song i listened first time i got high on weed lol.It was the best trip ever...
DUDE!! You gotta listen to Pink Floyd One Of These Days live from Pompeii. Great for all Drummer fans. Nick Mason kicks the songs ass!!
David Gilmour pokes fun at Andrew Lloyd Webber in an interview & said âLetâs call it sub conscious plagerism â than was asked if PF got paid for it & Gilmoir replied âYouâll have to ask my lawyerâ đ
Oh btw...âNo one flies around sun â
Today, with all these "experts" helping people sue big names for millions over tiny snippets that kinda, sorta sound similar... they'd have had no problem suing him.
Back then, suing someone for using a run up and down the chromatic scale in a similar way might not have been winnable. The only one who knows for sure if he'd ever heard Echos, is Webber. Yes, it sounds very similar. Yes, Webber has been known to lift bits from other piece of music, but only classical pieces that are no longer under copyright.
Bottom line, is that it's just running up and down the notes of the chromatic scale, and the way it's played is actually pretty different.
She still needs to hear "Coming Back To Life".
Yes
The whole DIvision Bell album in fact.
As well as Keep Talking love that track
Ahem .....Poles Apart, and the rest of the Division Bell Album
I never get tired of this, power, youth and control.
This was the track where they found their voice. Btw, Us and Them by PF will have Sistah break down.
Great Gig In the Sky
@@TS-qq7vr They've already done it.
Yes ...Make sure you have her on oxygen before you even start the player...She ONLY JUST made it through Comfortably Numb !!!đ
Gotta be my favourite Floyd recording, maybe because I have recently come across it. But damn this song makes you float away.
Best Reactions channel! Love Pink Floyd and I think Sistah would love High Hopes :D
Absolutely. From live recordings i would recommend the live at Gdansk version (includes Dave's best slide guitar solo IMO following by an soulful acoustic guitar outro) which has such a nice sound quality
Wolf, David Gilmour came back to the Coliseum in Pompeii back in 2016 for a full concert stop.
Greatest. Band. EVER.
One of the few 'I wish i would have been there' moments, in that ancient amphitheater when this was being recorded. Before they exploded with DSOTM . Pure Floyd.
Go there sit down and listen to it on headphones, I was there last year and it was an amazing experience standing where it was recorded. There's a great tribute to Floyd underneath the Amphitheatre too, well worth a visit....
This is the first reaction Iâve ever watched from you guy and I loved it! You guys are awesome and gained a new fan. Iâve also seen a few more reactions and Iâm them I seen your reaction to deep purple child in time and I loved it but may I suggest you listen to the live version I honestly believe with all my heart you guys will enjoy it more. Oh and please give us the second part 2 echoes because itâs a beautiful song and itâs a must listen to song well all of there songs in their entirety please
You would not believe me if I told you how many times I've watched the Live at Pompeii dvd, I probably have the world record, which is in no way healthy, but I just love it so much. Pink Floyd is an addiction to me.
A four-piece playing live in a ruined Roman amphitheatre in 1971. And making THAT sound!
50 years later, I still can't process it. Long after we are gone, unlike Mozart, this will still be a source of mystery not mimicry.
You gotta do part 2 now. Also there is a vid out there of the last time David Gilmour and Richard Wright performed echoes together before Richard passed. It is really good but sad, too. Thanks for doing this.
This is really the only decent live footage from this period of their careers, just before DSOTM hits....really gives you a sense of how great they were before that landmark album. Part II of this song was hindered by technical difficulties and much of the footage was taken from a studio performance and superimposed over the original audio.
You have to do Pink Floyd's "Shine On You Crazy Diamond pt. 1 or 2" next. Also, the group Rodrigo Y Gabriela did an amazing cover of Echoes for their newly released album that you should check out as well. Interesting to hear this master piece played by a Mexican guitar duo on classical nylon string guitars. Brought tears to my eyes seeing them play it live.
When i was in high school there was a theater that would run midnight shows...rock n roll related movies. went and saw this movie. mind BLOWN
You should check out a saucerful of secrets from live at Pompeii
Damn thatâs awesome. My favourite song by them. Especially this version.
FINALLY SOMEONE REACTS TO THIS VIDEO!! BEST SOLO EVER HERE
Love it! You guys are definitely something special.
when they were done recording they left the equipment there. when david gilmore went back in 2016 he had the same equipment repaired and used it,
Shine on you crazy diamond.
These guys were reading classic literature and mythology and then creating the soundtrack to them while inserting their commentary.
My favorite song to watch people react too, as soon as that funk hits you there is no going back
imagine if they hadn't lost four reels of tape on the way home, this would be the greatest live vid of all time, ahhhhhh
One of the best « songs » ever written and played. My favorite from the Floyd. This bass, organ and guitar will always kill me.
Some say we had the best music in the 70's. They are correct. But, this kind of music lives forever and is still revered and enjoyed by all ages. I am glad to see reaction videos for this reason. It gives rebirth to songs so that new generations can hear and enjoy them and continue to pass them down throughout time. Epic.
It makes me laugh. I have only watched a few of your videos, mostly the Pink Floyd ones but each time I watch I feel like i'm sitting in a lounge with you two opposite just chilling to the music. It amuses me. Makes it fun. Good company! I enlarge the screen on my iMac and it really is like you're right in front! Great reaction to an outstanding performance.
That made me smile, thanks â€ïžâđ€
A classic. I grew up with that â€ïž
Canât wait for you guys to get the Led out. Half-life sista is gonna love those guys. There are so many songs to choose from.
Get the same feeling every time I listen .. Waiting for the next inspirational band .. will there ever be one as good.
Great upload guys :)
Love your reaction. That's exactly it. Amazing.
Watching you two react to great music is a lot of fun! Good job.
Thanks, Eddie :*
I saw this concert in the cinema in 1974. It was insane...
In agreeing to do the Live At Pompeii movie, Pink Floyd made the director/producer contractually agree that they would NOT overdub the live music scenes with studio music. What you see of the band's performance exactly conforms to what you hear of the band's performance because it IS the band's performance.
You should check out the live version of Echoes in the 2006 David Gilmour gig Remember That Night. Truly mind blowing, great to see them do it after so long.
Echoes is my most favorite song of Pink Floyd.
David Gilmour, in 2016, did a 'live at Pompeii' concert. You have to see that too.
They were walking across many areas (and just as many phenomenons of volcanism) around Vesuvio, one of still active volcanos in Italy, which stands near Napoli (you called it Naples).
Shine on You Crazy Diamond is really good, and what I feel is the next logical step. There's a version here on CZcams with all 9 parts together instead of split like they are on the album.
there are 4 genius together .... one of my favorite song.... gretting for france
Great upload guys, the best version of this song.
Side note: people bag on Waters because he's not Jaco or whoever, but I love Roger's bass playing to death.
I feel the same, also I've always been surprised that Nick Mason doesn't get more credit for being a very creative drummer.
Great song. Love me some PINK FLOYD. rock on
đ€đ€đ€đ€đ€đ€đ€đ€đ€
Would like to see some more of your reactions guys to some other Pink Floyd rock gems. Echoes Part 2 is also as good as part 1, it starts with sounds that are hard to describe but I would say its from another space and time perhaps ?? Hope you do Part 2 if you haven't done so already
Pink Floyd RULED the entire seventy's! Thanks you two đ! WAY Ahead of their time! I totally enjoyed this. Thank youđđđđ
This is the developmental stages of UK music at its' pinnacle signalling to USA music at its heart that "we hear you and are here with you".
Next one Pink Floyd - Shine On You Crazy Diamond
@Cygnus7659 That was Pink Fraud
Live version is my fave
Definitely!
This has to be the best live gig of all times: present, past and future. A masterpiece â€đđđđ
Great react, just love your chemistry,... đ â€ïž
I would love to see you guys make video on "On the turning away", one of the top songs from Floyd , preferably live version. I know your girl wont regret it, I never see more honest and true reaction, that one will strike deep for sure. Cheers
no one speaks guitar or make one talk like Mr David gilmour
please continue pink floyd reaction videos!!! I love them!!! May I suggest Shine on you crazy diamond?
Greatest live performance of PF imo! Sistah so sensitive, sweet, stylish and se..
This album especially this song is when Pink Floyd became the Pink Floyd of today this was magical for its time and for all time it just goes to show how good these guys are and if you ever had any doubts about Dave Mason this will erase them quick heâs phenomenal here along with the rest of the band what a blending of voices what a beautiful coordinatedwork of Art
Yes! We need part 2 so bad!
Floyd in studio
Live has its aspects, but their studio work is flawless.
There is a part 2 đ love your reactions
I highly recommend The Musical Box by Genesis you guys would love it!
try
sorrow, or marooned from Pink Floyd or Shine on you Crazy Dimond part 1-5.
You didn't do the second half of the song (part 2).
Boy, she really gets it!
That guitar speaks to your soul and takes you to a different dimension. Any time I have Pink Floyd on my headphones I inevitably burst into tears
The one with the beard was Rick Wright.
Pink Floyd - Pigs
It was and is a movie to be seen in cinema back then.. PF in studio , and relaxing in the canteen is pretty funny, I wish I could find a cinema showing it today,
Us and them/ any color you like/ brain damage and eclipse live PLEASE!
They were not ahead of their time, they are the definition of their time.
But of their time in another dimension đ
MONSTER !!!
Ah man I love this song / version. 'Pompeii' & Floyd in general arrived at my appreciation as a student over 30 years ago and the 1st view of this set was a fine use of a purple. 'One OF These Days' my personal favourite of the listing..
Beginning by a very psychedelic live may be a hard way of discovering PF... It made me cry and travel again too though. After 20 years of listening... Fireworks for the mind and soul. "Real musc for real music lovers" as "somebody" said. Thanks for sharing.
WE NEED ECHOES PART 2!!!
Regarding Cinematography; Each shot is allowed itâs time. There is no rush. We watch Dave for a while, then Rick for a while, then we slowly Pan from left to right, etc. No need for 4 edits per second. I find this so soothing.
Iâm curious if Iâm alone in thinking this, and if anyone thinks weâll ever see a revival of this style.
This applies to nearly all concert movies up to the early 80s. Woodstock, Last Waltz, Queen in Montreal are examples.
By the time I was a young teenager in the 90s, the âquick editâ style was already in full motion. To me, that style was the norm. The first concert movie I saw without those fast edits made a strong impression. To me it felt new and refreshing.
I actually found this song through being a huge fan of Phantom, after seeing Gerard Butler in the role.. I researched so much about it and then came across something about Pink Floyd and Echoes, found this song and fell in love with it and the band.
@Lennon Mccartney To be fair, it's just running up and down the notes of a chromatic scale.
Just brilliant!!!
something wonderful, I listened to that song so many times when I was in the army on night duty (it kept me going). I always wanted to learn to play that harmony of tones with gentle transitions, and now that I've retired with a rather meager equipment, I think I've improvised those events in the song quite well. When I see that, I feel somewhat exalted, I think of the bass parts.
