President Murmu takes a sortie on the Sukhoi 30 MKI fighter aircraft at the Tezpur Air Force Station

The President of India, Smt Droupadi Murmu took a historic sortie in a Sukhoi 30 MKI fighter aircraft at the Tezpur Air Force Station in Assam today (April 8, 2023). The President, who is the Supreme Commander of the Indian Armed Forces, flew for approximately 30 minutes covering Brahmaputra and Tezpur valley with a view of Himalayas before returning to the Air Force Station.
The aircraft was flown by Group Captain Naveen Kumar, Commanding Officer of the 106 Squadron. The aircraft flew at a height of about two kilometers above sea level and at a speed of about 800 kilometers per hour. President Murmu is the third President and second woman President to undertake such a sortie.
Later in the visitor’s book, the President expressed her feelings by writing a brief note in which she said "It was an exhilarating experience for me to fly in the mighty Sukhoi-30 MKI fighter aircraft of the Indian Air Force. It is a matter of pride that India's defence capabilities have expanded immensely to cover all the frontiers of land, air and sea. I congratulate the Indian Air Force and the entire team of Air Force Station Tezpur for organising this sortie.”
The President was also briefed on the operational capabilities of the aircraft and the Indian Air Force (IAF). She expressed satisfaction on the operational preparedness of the IAF.
The President's sortie in the Sukhoi 30 MKI fighter aircraft is a part of her efforts to engage with the armed forces, as the Supreme Commander of the Indian Armed Forces. In March 2023, the President visited INS Vikrant and interacted with officers and sailors on board of the indigenously built aircraft.

@Bewlay Brother she means that she is representing women in the airforce . It's not about flying, more about the inspirational and political impact .
@Bewlay Brother I'm aware, but when figures like her take a ride on the jet it makes the women especially those in the airforce or aspiring to join in airforce feel supported. The president is acknowledging this sector of defense bcoz when people usually think of army they think of only soldiers marching on ground. This is a subtle act that draws the limelight to flight and the people who want to be there. The fact that she, who is the President, is taking a ride and enjoying, shows that all girls of the country can do as much. But you also have a point - this is just my way of looking at it.
The discipline in the Indian millitary is what earns the respect of us.. As a citizen of India, proud of you Madam... Jai Hind..

'Aasmaan mein sabke baap - Sukhoi military aircrafts!' They are built like a tank, fly like an eagle, hunt like hawks and even with a big body, have superb maneuvering capabilities (e.g. their famed 'Cobra maneuver'), they are dangerous adversaries in sky. In the Balakot strike, Sukhoi aircrafts covered Mirage jets, and patrolled over Kashmir skies for next few days as well. When PAF F-16 entered the Indian skies, they turned back when they saw Sukhoi MKi-30 jets coming towards them. This speaks a lot about the power and reputation of Sukhoi aircrafts.

What a brave woman our Madam President is. I have seen her videos of visiting Isha center, where so needed some assistance to navigate the stairs but here, she is like a lion donning the flying uniform and courageous to be on the flight deck. You can understand the take off speed of the aircraft and it definitely needs so much of courage to even start to think of flying it. She is a role model for all the young women to dream big and take on new heights!
She is not flying though , she is sitting behind the captain. But it takes gut to even sit behind for a non-flyer. Kudos to President..
