  • The Dark Side of Dave Mustaine: What His Former Bandmates Have Said About Him!
    For over forty years, Dave Mustaine has remained one of the top guitarists in all of metal, having contributed largely to the creation of thrash metal and pushing the genre’s boundaries to its limits, but over that long period, Mustaine has worked with countless musicians who have their own share of stories about the Megadeth guitarist and singer.
    Before forming Megadeth, Mustaine was known as the original lead guitarist for Metallica, until his drug and alcohol problems got too much for the band to handle, and he was ejected before they could record their debut album. Mustaine formed Megadeth shortly after his ejection, which became one of the most influential thrash metal bands in history. Mustaine has received praise for his highly proficient guitar playing throughout the years, but he has also become quite infamous due to his feuds with other musicians, most notably his former Metallica bandmates, and Megadeth’s numerous lineup changes which reportedly stems from his persona behind the scenes.
    In today's video, we look at The Dark Side of Dave Mustaine: What His Former Bandmates Have Said About Him!...Keep watching to see dave mustaine, dave mustaine interview, and dave mustaine metallic. I like Dave, I’m a fan of Megadeth and even got to meet that original classic 90s lineup on my 19th birthday and Dave was super cool to me, but I do think he lets his emotions take over him too often and he says some really dumb shit sometimes. I would never say he’s not a great songwriter and a phenomenal guitar player because he is definitely both of those things but he’s got this delusion that Metallica would have never been anything without him in acts like they tried to discredit him.
    Besides the things they said, within the first year after they fired him, I have never seen them give a public interview were they badmouthed him in a serious manner. I have heard James, Lars, and even Kirk and Jason saying a shit ton of positive things about him. It’s not like they tried to hide the fact which songs he helped write when he was in the band. He’s got a net worth of $17 million in about half of that comes from royalties from Kill Em All and one song he helped co write on Ride The Lightning and on top of that they don’t try to hide it. I mean the list Tim as a writer on the songs on the inside of the album cover.
    They have done shows with Megadeth in the past, they put that discussion he and Lars had in the movie some kind of monster, they did the Big 4 Shows with him, they had him come out to the 30th anniversary show and perform on stage with them, and when all of those things are going on, he’s happy, but if five or six years goes by Metallica doesn’t invite Dave to do something on camera or do a show with Megadeth then he goes back to the same old stupid shit.
    It’s not a good look because it makes Dave look like he’s coming off as extremely jealous, and the guy has nothing to be ashamed of when it comes to his music career other than letting his emotions get the best of him and not being able to shut up about Metallica . I mean Megadeth is the second most successful thrash metal band in the world. Not even the mighty Slayer or Sepultura can say that they’ve sold his many albums, or sold his many tickets, or have the main stream success that Megadeth has had. But when Dave says these things about Metallica, it really sounds like he’s not happy with his own achievements.

    • @bdr113080
      @bdr113080 Před rokem +6

      Not really I don’t think he’s been fair with his former band mates and Metallica or Megadeth. Yeah I can see why he was upset for being fired and it would be one thing if Metallica 10 or 20 or 30 or 40 years later were saying horrible things about him, publicly in interviews or in podcasts but besides that first year that they fired him, they’ve said nothing but positive things about him publicly. They invited him back for the 30th anniversary show, they showed the clip of he and Lars talking in the movie witch didn’t hurt Dave at all if anything it made, Dave look like he was in the right in that debate plus it was more free advertisement for Megadeth, they’ve done shows with Megadeth, as long as Metallica are doing something for him, he’s happy, but if a few years goes by and they don’t do something with Dave in front of the camera, or do a show with Megadeth, he starts throwing them under the bus again. Like if everything was good when they did the big 4 shows and 30th anniversary show then why does he feel the need to be the one that starts the shit up again and starts talking about how crappy it was they fired him and spreading the rumor whether it’s true or not that he slept with Kirk’s girlfriend. Which one you think about it doesn’t really sound believable because what he said was “I slept with his girlfriend before he left to go to New York to record the album.” OK they had already talk to Kirk before they fired Dave. Kirk was already in New York before Dave got back to the West Coast and it’s not like there was ever this scenario where they told Dave before they left California that they were going to fire him and replace him with Kirk so none of that adds up.
      When it comes to Megadeth, he’s never treated Megadeth like it was a band. It’s been the Dave Mustaine solo projects for 80% of the run. There have been over 22 members of Megadeth not including Dave. Anyone that has went through 22 band members isn’t someone I want to be in a band with. Why? So I can beat 23? Anyone in Megadeth right now thinking that it’s “their band” is delusional. At least win the other Dave was in the band. You could see that it wasn’t just Mustaine’s deal. Because you always had the other original member that had been there from the beginning. It’s hard to gravitate to a band when the members change every album.

    It shouldn't be a surprise Dave Mustaine is bipolar and a lil off the rails considering the guys history of drug use and being in and out of rehab 15 times. That kind of drug use really does permanently alter your state of mind in some way.

  • @gaspanda
    @gaspanda Před rokem +10

    Who doesn't know what Mustaine is like, to be fair you can hear how cranky he is directly from the man himself in most interviews! But Megadeth is his project and ultimately he does have the right to what he wants. I did like the energy of Chris Poland though, but also the beautiful solos of Marty Friedman, very different styles.

  • @Keratosedeath
    @Keratosedeath Před rokem +16

    Dave is undoubtedly my fucking hero who inspired me for playing lead guitar but I will not disagree that he had some substance issues and alcoholic persona for almost all time but still he is great musician. He is 10th best metal guitarist of all time by loudwire and honestly, he have changed a lot for many now, he is not as bitter as he was back then but his anger is obvious, Metallica used his songs without his permission in Three albums -
    Kill èm all -
    1. Metal militia
    2. Jump in the fire
    3. Phantom lord
    4. The four horsemen ( Mechanix )
    Ride the lightning -
    1. Ride the lightning
    2. The call of ktulu
    Master of puppets -
    1. Lepper messiah ( The hill runs red )
    It is so obvious for the reason. Gar semuelson and Chris Poland sold his gear for drugs. Marty and other have creative differences. Dave got some faults but most of the time he was not the villain. This is my opinion. I respect everyone's opinion. I love Metallica as you can see in my profile picture and I love Kirk Hammett. He is also a great musician.

    • @JSal-id4dc
      @JSal-id4dc Před rokem

      What are you talking about? Metallica didn’t use “Mustaine‘s songs” without his permission. He developed music with the other band members. He came up with some riffs, and then the entire band helps to craft a song from those riffs. And just because you can come up with a riff doesn’t mean you get to take the whole song with you once you’re out of the band. If Kirk Hammett left the band, he wouldn’t get to claim Enter Sandman and Creeping Death are now “Kirk Hammett songs” just because he came up with the main riffs. But that’s how Mustaine thinks because his ego is that big. Regardless, to this day Mustaine still gets song writing credit and royalties from Metallica for his early contributions to the band. Dave Mustaine is awesome as a musician, no doubt, but he’s also a whiny bitch who’s a cheap asshole to his own band members in Megadeth. He completely erased David Effelson’s basslines from their last album just so he wouldn’t have to pay him. Total dick move, Mustaine.

    I mean if I was part of a band and I wrote a chunk of the songs and then got kicked only for them to use it and make a name for themselves bigger than my band I would be bitter for a very long time so I can see where Dave’s bitterness comes from. Whether you like Dave or not. You’ve gotta admit without Dave writing almost all of KEA and half of RTL and I guess a part of leaper messiah (I heard the riff in an early jam session demo video) I would say he deserves far more recognition from people who looks up at Metallica. I listen to Metallica a lot more then Megadeth but gotta give credit where credit is due. Love both bands. Different styles but the same drive that led them to success.

      He wrote 4 songs on kill em all, FOUR, which Metallica changed a bit after they kicked him so that means he has 4 co contributions on kill em all. He also only has one minor contribution on the ride the lightning song and one small contribution on call of ktulu. He also did not contribute at all to leper Messiah. I have no idea where you Megadeth fans get your facts from but they're always wrong.

    • @charlesbaker7505
      @charlesbaker7505 Před rokem +1

      He’s credited for 4 songs on Kill Em All (less than half) and 3 songs on RTL (Less than Half) and there is no demo which even sounds remotely similar to Leper Messiah

    The “Some Kind Of Monster” meeting in 2001 was far from “the first time they met in nearly thirty years”.
    Firstly, they first met in late 1981, so this 2001 meeting, they hadn’t even KNOWN each other for twenty years yet.
    Secondly, Megadeth and Metallica played on the same bill in 1985. Lars sang backup vocals for “Anarchy In The UK” at Castle Donnington in 1988. Lars described partying with Dave in the late 80s. Megadeth and Metallica played on the same bill again in 1993 for several shows.
    That statement about “the first time they met in thirty years” is absurd for a few reasons.

    Metallica was right for getting rid of him. They knew he would be the bomb that would sink their ship. He's bitter because he knows he's second best "MAYBE" and will always will be. The fact that Metallica's lineup has been mostly the same except for Cliff passing and Jason leaving being replaced by Rob is the reason why they are more famous because they are more like a family. We as fans like to see that. Dave has had so many people run through his band and it's hard to follow a band when you don't know who is who. Dave is good. However, he is still bitter. He will say he is not but you can see it in his face. Metallica's success haunts him. Even though he has his own brand it's knowing that no matter how good he is and how great Megadeth is he will always make less money, have lower budget concert shows and most of all always be beneath Metallica. Knowing that he was once a part of that Empire and watching Kirk do what he lost will always haunt him.

      His forte is definitely as a riffwriter and rhythm player, no doubt, but it’s not like he’s a BAD lead player. The guy may not be as dexterous or exotically talented as a soloist as many other guitarists, but he’s produced some delicious leads over the years.

      Not really...he didn't drink or do any more drugs than the rest of them did. FACT. The entire reason he was outed was because of lars...Lars couldn't control him..and hetfields a step away from being Lars bitch..so Dave was out. That's when hammet showed up....and adios talent!! Went from a borderline metal band to glorified pop rock. Absolute label whores.

      @@shaunduffy8019There already was a Metallica before Dave, they would have been fine. Not sure Megadeth would have got as far without Dave namedropping his former band all the time and following there career trajectory.
