i was waiting for that video for 2 years now, cheers from Latvia) although you didn't enjoy everything you've tasted, we've got a completely different taste in food out here - roasted lentils are very healthy and we don't eat so much salt and artificial flavors out here, rye bread is like an everyday meal here with breakfast, lunch, dinner and even celebration party (we eat it with salted herring, alcohol, caviar and all kinds of stuff). The driedness of food is also different for us - it's a belief that "hard to stomach" food is much better for your digestion

I imagine those lentils could be fine in hot water, that would make something like a porridge. Proteins, like you said.
Rye bread has lower glycemic index than wheat bread thus is better at keeping energy levels up for longer. I'd expect some butter or cheese on it but in you guessed well with raisins - not fancy but carbs, carbs and carbs plus fibers so those napkins get used for good.

Often known as bologna where it comes from, it is cooked or smoked and then either packaged whole or sliced. Been watching your channel for a bit. Grew up in Latvia. Ironically, have only had American MREs. Loyd tea seems to be a sub par Polish brand of some kind. The rye bread, uhhhh… you threw some punches there. Never disrespect the rye bread if you visit Latvia. Haha! But nah, the rye bread is a great choice- it’s calorically dense and super filling, some quick carbs and you will feel full for a while. But the biggest advantage is that if the moisture content is kept on the lower side, it won’t spoil or mold for a long time, instead kinda drying out. Remoisten it and it can be revived for some solid field chow. Latvia, Estonia, Finland, by the way, have some of the best choc in the world, objectively. Not sure what this shit was. And lentils can go to hell, for all I care.

For the main meal, I dont know how the company got the contract with the army, but it is the woooorst possible "ready to eat" food companies out there... I rather eat cheap instant ramen nudles than what they make....
What you want with rye bread is onion slices, butter and generous slice of smoked bacon or some other slice of meat. that will fill you up for the rest of the day

I wish I could send you a Chilean ration. Most of them are 3 packs per day, made by local enterprises but to US standards (you won't tell the difference in packaging)... BUT, for dinner you have something called "Chupilca del Diablo", which during the War in the Pacific as a sort of amphetamine back then. It, I think you could call it moonshine mixed with black powder. Of course, the current one doesn't have black powder for obvious reasons but it's a really small tube packaging of moonshine. It's a tradition that stuck in order to honor the ones fallen during that conflict.
You also take a really small shot when you graduate basic training and F me it burned all the way down, I wasn't accustomed to such strong drinks.
