May Allah SWT grant him a long life so that he may continue to be a source of knowledge, guidance and intellectual and spiritual enrichment of the Ummah. Many years ago I had the privilege of spending a week in the Sheikhs company as he led a sacred caravan to makkah and madina, and this remains one of the most precious time in my life.

When I used to read Thomas Cleary’s works in my early twenties I would enjoy it and yet feel guilty at the same time.
My conscience would say to me “How could you read these outsiders’ traditions of wisdom and their stories of valor while God has gave us the best of ancestors and best of stories, you are ungrateful and may have betrayed the Prophet and the Sahabas, and those who came after them, who toiled with sweat and blood to be the highest exemplars for you” , so I stopped digging further into his works/books. But when I heard last year in the “Book Club” hosted by our dear Sheikh Hamza Yusuf, that he had become a Muslim and translated Quran, my heart filled with joy and gratitude to God. For then I saw it in a new light, I saw it as if I have studied the work of one of our elder Muslims. Albeit he joined us later on in the pack but joined us, by the grace of God with the greater impact . Alhamdulillah, Alhamdulillah ‘Robb L’Alameen!

Verily, the angels lower their wings for the seeker of knowledge. The inhabitants of the heavens and earth, even the fish in the depths of the water, seek forgiveness for the scholar. The virtue of the scholar over the worshiper is like the superiority of the moon over the stars. The scholars are the inheritors of the Prophets. They do not leave behind gold or silver coins, but rather they leave behind knowledge. Whoever has taken hold of it has been given an abundant share.

I'm amazed that Shaykh Hamza didn't mention Asad Umar, aka Leopold Weiss Translation, once. Because he literally encompasses all the Arabic and English tools to the best of their abilities.
He learned Jhaliya Arabic by living with Bedouins for years. And knew it like he knew his mother's languages, Hebrew and German. He learned Jahiliya and modern Arabic. Persian (Irani and Afghani dialects), and Urdu.
Most people know him through his famous book, The Road to Mecca," and rightly so, but his Quranic Translation and Commentary are most underrated.
In Asad's words in "The Message of the Quran," "the work which I am now placing before the public is based on a lifetime of study and of many years spent in Arabia. It is an attempt-perhaps the first attempt-at a really idiomatic, explanatory rendition of the Qur'anic message into a European language."

I have been watching HY’s amazing videos for quite a long time. He looks and sounds different in this video. There’s something weighing heavily on his mind right now.
I think Sheikh HY needs to steer back away from the UAE led push to dilute pure original Islam.
I love Sheikh Hamza Yusuf and I think he is a towering Alim of the Deen, a clean, pious, Soufi saint in his own right. He just doesn’t need to affiliate himself to new trends that are created by misguided, semi- illiterate heads of state in the Middle East.
Hamza Yusuf is a real man of God and he is far superior in rank that he shouldn’t stoop low to accommodate any politicians or politically minded other religious men who might try and drag him into their suspicious circles.
