I love the internal logic of Larry's little suburban universe. Everyone is prepared to wage these staredown battles and understands the stakes involved.
3:22 I love how his dad leans into the stare, like a master duelist who's ready to counter his opponent's best offense. It's doubly hilarious because the question here is in regards to Larry's heritage, and the way that his dad perfectly matches his own movements is actually pretty good evidence that he's probably not adopted.
I never thought he was attempting to 'stare down' or 'break' anyone, he was pathetically attempting to 'see into them', hoping he could 'see' if they were bullshitting him...and yes, either way, it never accomplished SHIT...;)

Shaun Feldman he poisoned the food that susie told him was going to oscar (their dog) because the restaurant had a policy that they don't give food to animals. larry went to claim that he got sick
Everytime Larry stares either at a friend or stranger he always gets his ass handed to him even when he ends with saying Okay it kills me everytime he does it XD
@@SerErryk That is often a criticism Jerry got even during the Seinfeld days... Jerry is NOT an actor... so he'd be breaking constantly and you would see it in the actual episodes, he was on the verge of cracking a smile or about to laugh... he was particularly bad around Michael Richards, they did a million takes
I am going to purchase a clarinet and learn to play this perfectly, and nothing else. Then when I have guests I can ask them if they've seen curb. If they say yes I will get the clarinet out and play this tune to them for them to recognize. If they say no, I will say "are you sure?" then get the clarinet out and play it anyway while staring at them to ascertain if they are lying.
As a kid, I remembered seeing my parents laughing at these scenes in "Curb Your Enthusiasm" and I didn't get it at first. But I'm watching now as an adult and now I see why. These stare-downs are too hilarious especially with Larry David's expressions and the music in the background. 😆😆😆😆🤣
The guy in charge of the golf place also did it to only him when interrogating Larry and the rest of his crew who plays golf there of killing his black swan.
as i progressed through the episodes for the first time and was aware of the staredown, i was always looking forward to the next time larry would use it
Larry David is the best human that have ever existed for sure, he is the true god. The scene with Jerry is amazing, thanks for Seinfeld and Curb..... you made me happy.
i love how it became a running gag, and the way he says "ok..ok, alright" reminds me of my old shop teacher, whenever we would look guilty (true or not) he would do that shit, hed be like "look me in the eye and say that" and just stare for a good 30 seconds and go "mhm..we'll see" and just walk away
Love both shows, my favorite shows at all time...I just recently realized that Larry did the voice of George Steinbrenner of the Yankees...it was cool to see the behind the scene of Seinfeld from Curb.
My 3-year old daughter caught a glimpse of that scene with the gardener and she just laughed hysterically and asked why he was making that face. Not that I let her watch CYE, she just happened to see it after waking up late at night.
Yeah! I get inspired by Larry that I actually used a couple of his rules on a few situations and it felt good, you should try it, very rewarding and empowering.
My wife literally just asked how many drinks I’m having tonight and I lied and said four... we both knew I was lying and started staring down each other I said hold on and CZcamsd this video and played it while we continued the stare and it was awesome
The "stare music" coupled with the closing "OK" is what gets me every time.
I want that oboe music available for me to do this at any time in real life.

He’s a doctor.
He learned it from his dad the master
It’s also a standard Jewish dad reflex when they can’t quite make something out
i love how the person to use larry's own technique on larry is jerry, and instead of saying "...okay" he uses "alright"
Its like dante and vergil
Lin manuel miranda also uses it on larry
What's even funnier to me is how everyone just accepts these staredown battles as normal and don't even react to it after Larry is done snooping 😅
Couldn't have said it better myself. That seems to be the only Larry-specific etiquette anyone on the show kinda plays along with
This video is pretty good!
Pretty....pretty....pretty.....pretty good
Lyn McNeil ok....... ok.....
I don't think the LD staredown worked once at breaking anyone.... So hilariously, pathetically ineffective.

Nope, he's just explaining why the LD staredown is so funny to him.
You seem to be taking it a bit too seriously.
...Okay.

No... I'd like, my second tip back.

the staredown between larry and jerry is gold
Gold Jerry, Gold!
noodledwarf Are you sure?
Especially when he goes for the fakeout 😂
The clarinet cracks me up in anticipation of whats coming. It is genius - really adds to the comedy and sets the tone of the whole thing.

Larry David is the best comedy writer ever, period!!

Difficult scenes to film without laughing...
