I keep hearing Accord is leading over M6 and Camry, but that front grill on the 2018 Accord that someone forgot to finish is just the worst design ever made on a car. Can’t get past it. I would still chose Mazda 6, in white. Black rims and tinted windows. Stunning looking car

I saw and sat in one recently and have to say it's way nicer than many Mercs, BM's and Audis that are significantly more expensive. Gorgeous lines from the outside and the interior is stunning.
This car needs 2 things to differentiate it as the top of the tree plus remaining competitive. A new, larger infotainment system. And a larger engine, with at least an 8 speed auto.
But elegance, refinement and class are way over something like the Stinger. It just needs those 2 things to be able to compete against other offerings.

yeah, all those 8-10 speep transmissions are destroying reliability records and is responsible for toyota and honda nose dive in reliability performance. now they are on par with chevy, chrysler, ford. I won't go near a 8-10 speed transmission, they are too complicated and complex which is why they are not reliable and see so many recalls and problems with them.

Great review Matt! To bad no manual is offered on the turbo model. More sad news is you can only get the manual on the base sport trim for 2018, but in 2017 you could get the manual in both the sport and touring trim. I feel one gets punished for opting for the manual. At least Mazda offers any manual for now is a plus. Keep up the good work!

Nice review. I like that you come back after a week of driving to offer final impressions. I traded my 2016 iGT for a Sig and the car just gets better the more you drive it. I drove MANY sedans before buying another 6 and I agree that the 6 is less caffeinated yet feels very solid and composed. Mazda seems to have dialed in the chassis and steering perfectly. I did change out the Falkens and find the 6 rides a little stiffer now with much less body roll. All in all a great, well-engineered and fun car to drive for the money.

Honestly I bought my Camry pre-owned last year not impressed with it. Planning to trade her in next year . My brother has a 2013 Mazda 6 loves it. My oldest cousin had a Mazda 626 brand new back in 1998 which she got rid of it in 2011 it was reliable. I might just consider this car .God it looks so good in the red. Matt, great review. As the father of 3, this is my front runner to finally replace my 09 6 Touring 6spd someday in the next few years, probably preowned 1 or 2 years though. The $32,500 Mazda 6 is actually the Grand Touring Reserve model, there is a regular Grand Touring model though for just over 30K, the cheapest way to get the 2.5T engine. I really wish they would offer a manual with this engine, just as Honda does with the 2.0T, but I seriously doubt they ever will.

I think it is a mistake but they should have true sports package on all trims where it comes with sport tires 245 width, and lower stiffer springs along with stiffer Anti roll bars. This way it could easily smoke Camcords in everyway and offer super balanced feel between sporty and luxurious of current model!!!!

    Niceeee review!!!!
i have an off topic question tho if you dont mind me asking.
Out of the two cars below which one will you choose?
    1. 2016 mustang ecoboost premium 35k miles
    2. 2017 mustang ecoboost standard 20k miles
Assume both around the same price
Asking cuz i'm mostly likely getting 1 of these although im still looking at inifiniti qx30

do you forsee yourself having more than one passenger often? Between the mustangs here there isn't much difference. The 2017 mustang has a few exterior tweaks, and a few more color options. So, if you can find one in the color you want you can't go wrong, since everything else is about the same.

    • @kevinwang9249
      @kevinwang9249 Před 6 lety

i'm not going to have a lot of passengers on a daily basis because it's just me and my gf and she has a car as well. i guess i will see when i test drive them. but i was just wondering just how worth it are leather seats and other premium options because i wont be getting those if i do get standard 2017 ecoboost

It all depends on how much you like the extra features. Personally, I’d go for the Premium even if it means getting a car that’s one year older and has 15k more miles. Not only do you get heated and cooled leather seats, you get the Sync3 infotainment that has Apple CarPlay and Android auto too. Again, some don’t care about these things but a lot do.

I have the Mazda 6 GT Reserve. Almost as luxurious as the Signature. It is an extremely plush car for the money. But I do wish it came with wider 235 tires, and the turbo engine, while faster than the normally aspirated version, is lacking compared to the competition. IT never wows you, it feels a little too linear in its acceleration and the worst part is that the engine cuts off at 5k. I took it on a spirited drive using manual shift mode and I kept bumping the red limiter. If they shifted the torque curve another 2k rpms and made the redline 7krpm, it would have been such a sweet engine and it would make about 280-290hp too. Mazda missed the boat with this engine imho.

    😂😂😂😂
Dude thinks it’s a transmission tunnel when it’s a front wheel car and is more focused on looks and all the bells n whistles.
Funny how he fails to mention the seats are redesigned for better posture and back support .
The 2018 Mazda 6 has thicker steel for cabin and frame ... that’s why it’s quieter not the 19 “ rims .

Are the ventilated seats better than the Accord tho?
When I test drove the accord it seemed like the ventilated seats did nothing.
Especially compared to the Kia, the Kia and Hyundai brand do an amazing job on ventilated seats.
Just wondering what your thoughts on all three brands that do ventilated seats

I like Mazdas, having had four, including my wife's current. One thing that bothers me is the touch screen looks like it was mounted on the dash, like a modified design add on. Just incorporate into the dash console, contouring it up an inch, if necessary and ELIMINATE the separate MANUAL climate control cluster! The audio controls are 2019 & the climate controls are 2001 vintage & separated, so you must still look down to find them! If you're going to update, make it all ONE touchscreen control! Make a midsize truck or an RX10 X?

If this had a good torque vectoring AWD I would buy a Signature 6 over an A4 no questions asked. And yes, I have driven both.

That would annoy me very quickly the transmission upshifting too soon. Honestly that would be a dealbreaker cuz it robbs the engine from reaching peak hp and torque. Has anyone driven it that can comment on this? Or any noticeable turbo lag?

Compare to the 2.0 turbo's such as Toyota, Malibu premier these cars come with a more modern 9 or 10 speed automatic transmission that really helps these cars out. The 6 speed actually hurts the performance of this fine car. Mazda finally installs a wonderful motor but with 0 to 60 coming in at 6.7 and the competition with the smaller 2.0 doing 0 to 60 in the range of 5.3 to 5.7 and quater mile times in the low 14 seconds range. Mazda
finally did a good job with this car but the motor would be more happier with more gears.

The car can not decide what gear it wants to be in. It randomly jumps and skips and bucks. I have had the car in 4 times. Test drove with a tech and he felt it and said it's not right. Toyota sent in a tech and wrote on my report that erratic shifting is normal there is nothing wrong with the car. What!! Are you kidding. Toyota or the dealer wants to fix the problem. The car is not safe. DO NOT BUY THIS CAR. IT IS NOT SAFE

The 8 to 10spd gears are not reliable. Plus they tend to "hunt" for the right gear. Honestly, tops could be 7spd however the 6spd is fine - and reliable.
