Get on google and find local races, rally's, or even just buy a pos and take it to the quarter mile. Car racing doesn't need to cost millions, it can be done relatively cheap, you just gotta look in the right places and use cars in your price range. Driving an old beamer around a track on the edge of spinning out is the most fun you can have with your pants on.

I'm fresh out of college and can't help but hope I can stumble into an awesome car-related full time job. To get paid to play is a dream, and much like Emile said, I can imagine it is hard work, but when it's for something you're building up and something you love, it likely doesn't feel too much like work!

Kent Lopez Nothing car related, but relevant to my degree. I was a software developer and now an infrastructure engineer. It’s nice to be an adult and have the ability to buy fun toys/cars. For anyone in college reading though, my advice is, enjoy being where you are right now. I know guys much further into their paths of success and careers that agree, don’t rush getting old lol.

@@fritzthekidd Great question. Since posting originally, 3 years ago, I’ve owned a ton of cars and now have a Lamborghini Gallardo. It was my dream car; I wanted that more than anything. That said I’ve learned a lot about life in general. My Dad passed away from cancer, and it put many things into perspective with what’s important to me. Additionally, after owning the lambo, an audi r8, an M5 and a nice cayman S, I learned that cars don’t make me as happy as I thought they would. I had built up in my head that getting a lambo would make me happier than ever - but honestly I liked my beat up 90k mile cayman a lot more. I recently traveled to Europe (italy) for the first time, and realized that made me happier than I’ve been since my Dad became sick. I’m selling my cars, and considering taking a break from the car world. It’s a lot of people trying to impress others, or people trying to get me to buy their products (detail services, parts, etc) and people trying to use you for your car. I personally had the world of cars as a priority but I realize now family and living life is way more important to me personally. If you are young, go see the world. I’m 25 now; if I had traveled abroad in college, I likely would have moved there for a couple years after school. I’m very VERY lucky to have basically checked off my dream car box at age 25, but cars are not everything. Cherish your health, family, and use the time you have on earth wisely. I know this is a huge ramble, sorry. TL;DR - cars aren’t everything, explore the world and live free and you’ll figure out a ton about yourself.

Emile Bouret worked on the design for the '97 Eclipse?? That's my favorite aesthetic car of all time! Sure there are plenty of beautiful supercars, but something about the '97 Eclipse just speaks to me. Thank you for being a part of my childhood, and creating a beautiful car!
It's all about the people! Once you meet the first one, they introduce you to a friend of theirs. As long as you make a good impression. It's a fantastic journey from there. You just have to put yourself in the right places to meet that first person.

Alex Tremulis was my neighbor in Ventura Calif; he designed cars (Tucker) throughout the 30's to 60's. I worked for Carl Green he was doing projects for AMC (Pacer Pickup) and most everything for Evel Knievel. We built all kinds of Movie cars (back to the Future, Blade Runner, wonder woman, etc)
Jay Storer is an Auto Journalist that lived at our shop; he covered the first Rotary engine experiments and various car stuff.
We restored cars for Otis Chandler; best car collection ever. It was really fun working with these old guys of the auto world.
Low key this guy designed the Carrera GT
While I wish I had, I was only working there when it was designed. A couple of really talented guys get the credit for its design. One of which is currently the head of design at Lamborghini...
The original R8 is a timeless design. I don’t think it will ever be topped by Audi.

Michael Lorah not really, I was just never that good at school. My grades were never good enough to get into mechanical engineering etc. Plus we couldn't afford any good universities that might get me anywhere. I had to settle for a 9 to 5 job lol

It's great to hear someone say, "3 Wheelers", you know he was a Honda ATC guy. So was I back in the day, I still have an 85 200X, and a 86 350X. Both bought new, the only good thing about the ban was getting that 350X and just a fraction of it's retail price. The bad thing was, there was never going to a 650X.

this guy should of got the roll for American top gear tanner foust is the only real car guy and is the only one on that show that has my respect if they some how got ken block or some other legendary driver it most likely would of been good show
He was talking about the new version, not the previous one with Tanner. Seems like this guy would have been better on something a bit more serious about cars... he should work for the /Drive folks.

These videos about employment are so crucial for the younger generation to watch. Everyone nowadays just expects or thinks there dream job is a right to them and if they can’t get their dream job right away that it’s some sort of injustice to them and somehow it’s society’s fault. When in reality virtually every single one of those people who have the high dollar or super cool dream jobs have been busting their ass for decades working their way from the bottom to the top!

That's weird, I actually had that car when i was 22, i loved the eclipse! I used to drive it down the highway with the needle buried, around 170 mph, and i loved it! Nice design man! I wish I could get into something dealing with fast speeds(but not a circle track,at least not for hours at a time, my adhd mind would be bored with that ;)

Emile, awesome. The 97 body style Eclipse GSXs were the best looking 97-99. They just don’t make cars that amazing, anymore. I owned 5 Eclipses and Talons, 1993-1999 models. 1995-1999 of course being the second generation cars. And 1997-1999 was the awesome facelift. 👌👌👌

Thats what i said whan i was offered a job at a rallycross/nascar grand prix near where I live, I would do this even if i werent getting paid, but its even more awesome to get paid. (Small job of an antenna guy following the moving camera, but when the rallycross guys take off im sometimes 6 feet behind them) GPR3 Grand prix de trois rivières, its an awesome event.

Interesting story
It seems that most parents think they know what's best for their kids when, in reality, it winds up being controlling and sometimes unbearable. It especially seems that thisc happens when it comes to careers involving cars. I can't begin to tell you how many times I've heard the montra of "my parents called me a dumbass" in car stories. If a parent really wants to support their kid, they help them and encourage them to pursue what they dream of doing with every ounce of their being.
My dream...become a billionaire, quit my job, drive cars all day.

No fraternity or anything like that, Frank. I went to Art Center College of Design to study Transportation Design, as sub-field of Industrial Design. That school in itself is a bit of a fraternity, though, so there's that, I suppose. The school makes all the connections for its students in a way, as they have connections with most of the car companies and invite them to come out and interview the graduating class of students. Hope that helps answer your question.

Ok this is very very cool, but I want a job working for a company where I get to daily drive new cars and give feedback on their performance and things of that nature. For example, I want to work for the BMW group taking home new Minis to critique and give feedback on. Another example, I sign a contract working for BMW and take home the new 2021 Mini Countryman All4 JCW for a couple months and give BMW my feedback on it. Then after that I give it back and take home the new BMW M5 for a couple months and give them my feedback. It doesn’t even have to be BMW, it could be Toyota, it could be Ford or General Motors, but I want THAT job, does this exist? If not then I have no idea what I’m gonna do with my life until something else I would actually enjoy comes up. I’m a car guy, straight up. I keep up on most new vehicles on my own time because I want to and I love it. I can’t image actually doing what I love for a living FOR REAL. Everyone always tells me “oh yeah I do this for a living and it’s what I love doing”, and im like no it’s not what you ACTUALLY love doing, it’s what you can put up with the least amount of trouble.
And now the eclipse is a fucking crossover 🤦♂️
