😂
I just picked up a 2023 X3M Comp and for those who say the ride is “brutal” and “harsh” I have to strongly disagree. This vehicle is a blast to drive. Great review btw!
Thank you!
That was mainly a criticism on the pre LCI
I agree absolutely love mine, just got it, end of August
Tire pressure is key, also the suspension settles out a lot after a few thousand miles (2022 x4mc)
Factory recommended pressure is 33 front 38 rear for a fully loaded vehicle- 5 passengers or 4 and heavy luggage-which can feel uncomfortable if the car is mostly empty
33 all around or even 31 all around (cold pressure) is what my local BMW dealership’s lead technician recommends if you only have a couple people in the car
Good to know. I’m planning on picking up a 2022 X3MC next week and the harsh ride comments on the reviews kinda bummed me out but I’ve lived with firm suspensions before.
I traded my SQ5 for the X4M Competition this summer. The difference in quality, tech and performance is night and day.
Is the X4M more confortable ?
The X3M is literally an M3 in SAV form to solve the issue for those who have kids and strollers but want practicality
With one child - I think the M3 would be best. Holds value and great for drags :)
or for well nourished folks.
Fantastic, comprehensive review! Great discussion points to consider when looking at this versus an M3. As someone who traded a 2020 X3M Competition in for a 2022 M3 Competition xDrive I can say that I haven't looked back and have no regrets.
But I'm glad to hear they resolved the back breaking, kidney beating suspension system with the LCI X3M now too. It was really the only consistent knock against it.
It’s a lot better than 2020 model. I drove one past year and it was stiff!!
I miss my X4MC but selling it and making 10k made way more sense. Ill x3mc next instead for the more space and i wanted the rear curtains.
Personally I’d get the M3 if both were available. I didn’t love the M3 enough to wait a year so I picked up the X3M and it’s a good car but the X3 M40i is a way better daily. Low end torque and overall smoothness makes it a joy to cruise around town.
Exact same situation here. Didn't really want to pay 12K over MSRP for an M4 and I certainly wasn't waiting a year. My only complaint with the X4M is the ride quality is brutal for an SUV. Far worse than my old 440i
@@LansdowneMotorsport yea I agree the ride is harsh but apparently better than the pre facelift.
I also had a 440i GC and I absolutely loved everything about that car. I actually wanted an X4M rather than X3 but it wasn’t meant to be
'21 Merc GLC63S vs this,,which one should I go for,,had settled for GLC63S but this video is tempting
Hi, I'm fairly new to your channel, but I must admit I really like your reviews! Btw. Does the camera man has a Parkinson? The image is so shaky sometimes...
Hi Sam! What about choosing between X3 M competition and the M3 competition touring that fixes the space for luggage with children. Also 4WD sport is the same with 2WD mode from the M3? Thank you!
Touring all day - but not available
Absolutely love that colour 😍
One big option differece between the M3CX and X3C is that the M3CX is able to go into RWD-only mode. The screen in the X3M didn't show that mode.
This can be coded for cheap
it takes 5mins to enable it with a little download
That's the exact same green as my parents 1976 VW Rabbit.
Great review... impressive vehicle overall. I am going to make an educated guess that BMWs performance numbers were low balled as usual so I would expect this to be much quicker than they claimed.
Definitely quicker
Car and driver repeatedly got 3.2s. This suv is insanely underrated.
Dynos showing about 500hp at the wheels so BMW publishing wheel HP like usual. 650 wheel ho with just a tune and 750 with downpipes and E50. Absolutely ludicrous…
what colour is that?
I would take this over a M3. The versatility tips the scale for me.
Fair argument
Is this a Canada-only color 🥺?
X3M: more practical for kids and their gears. I think it has the largest cargo capacity compared to Stelvio Quadrofoglio, GLC 43 & 63, SQ5, Macan Turbo. Also, sits higher, which in places like TX, FL sometimes necessary for flash flood during rainy season. X5M is just for bragging rights not that much quicker, a lot heavier.. but more luxurious.
Apparently the X3M is faster than X5M in every metric. According to Caranddriver
Agree, after driving the X5MC and X4MC I went smaller. There’s no more back seat room in the larger SUV, just 1000 lbs more weight and more leather, slightly bigger (and massaging) seats, more trunk space, better sound system (optional) laser headlights, softer suspension, higher seating position-that’s about the whole list
Torque on the v8 is a little more available at low RPM but the weight offsets it
Felt like it was 1000lbs and $40k for very little tangible benefit honestly. My opinion may change with the new S68 engine though, which is looking to be incredible.
Like the car and the color.
Do a 2017 V6 Accord vs V6 Camry
I have a 2023 X3M competition, just got it delivered 3 weeks ago screen is the same size of the 2022
Really eh?
I think the subscription part will chase some customers away
Love da green
This is a monster
Agreed
No one talks about the 3 series being only able to tow 1.8 tons while the x3 platform can tow 2.4 tons…
Do a x3m comp lci vs dbx 707.
Wish I could 🥵
@@SamCarLegion I knew you'd like the idea it would be an epic race.
Saludos Sam. Roush vs this car?
That would be a slaughterhouse
@@SamCarLegion wanna see
Is it worth getting over the X3 M40i?
In my books yes
To each their own. I have an M40i and chose it over the x3m. Suspension of the x3m is too much if ur roads are not the best. Maybe they fixed it here
@@yesitsme8943 what year is your x3?
@@2sick257 10/2018 (opf model)
Owned both. My X3M is brutally fast 10.4 @ 132 but gets atrocious fuel mileage, sounds worse and rides much rougher than my old X3M40i. My X3M40i wasn’t a slouch either at 11.4 @ 122. Overall, I kind of miss my M40i as a daily.
I can rip off 0-60 in 3.1 and 11.1 1/4 mile all day long in my X3MC--with no altitude correction (4900 ft). This engine really likes racing fuel. The economy is appalling, but most of the dyno results I've seen are right around 550hp. I guess if you want to play, you gotta pay.
My mother has an X3M40. It has a better ride, but it's not even close speed-wise.
I also gps'd 179mph when I was racing a new Camaro SS 1LT with pipes and a pully. We were dead even, and my X3MC was actually stronger in the midrange.
The ride was pretty harsh with the Continental tires when I bought it, so I put on Michelins. A tremendous help. The continentals only lasted 4000mi.
Color looks fantastic imo.
Def does faster than 3.9 to 60
Easily-3.5 or 3.3
Audi RSQ5 don’t exist unfortunately. Europe has an RSQ3
I wish they did make one. But it’ll probably have low sale numbers.
Sam I think you missed the whole idea of why the X3 M40i exists alongside the X3M! They for sure don’t drive the same also the M40i has dual exhausts not single
For the extra cost - the X3M makes more sense. I believe the X40i uses single exhaust tip in comparison to the X3M using full dual exhaust tips.
@@SamCarLegion it’s a dual trapezoid tips one on each side same with the 30i
X3 40i has a single exhaust on each side, I don’t believe it has a dual exhaust. I think you got it confused in as: one exhaust tip. Dual exhaust system is 4 tips in total- single exhaust tip system is one tip on each side. The X3M is dual exhaust system on each side.
@@SamCarLegion ooh! Makes sense! Completely get it now
It’s my fault - i should have specifically described at as “ single exhaust on each side” my bad
M40i has dual exhaust not single.
Single on each side - not dual exhaust tips
M Power 💪
멎지다!
X3m40i actually has *dual exhaust (not single)
Tips*
@@SamCarLegion the m40i has the ability to open and close flaps after starting the ignition, for single or dual exhaust use.
On startup, exhaust only flows from one side to help warm up the cat's faster.
The flap will open itself when the car reaches idle, and will typically open itself when the car is idling (after a minute or two).
After driving away in either Comfort or Eco Pro driving mode, the flap will close, and remain closed unless you give the car hard throttle.
The flap will remain open in Sport and Sport+ mode -> with the flap open both tips will allow exhaust flow (dual exhaust).
Till you corner with it.
The best suvs only do about.9 g
Do you how much more horsepower it would have to have , to equal a 1 g car over a given twisty?
Love the color
Urus taps 1.02 on a 300ft skid... the X3M is .97... looks pretty good to me.
@@S8ER .97. Like a TRD Camrry on Pilot Sports. Not bad for a high sitting vehicle. Just the consumer grade suvs are around . 85. Think Corolla
@@davevolz6138 Whats the benchmark here? 🤔I suspect you're not impressed by anything breaching 1.1G in which case this would be a pointless conversation I think.
@@S8ER No just noted tippyness by suvs on testdrives.
Haven’t driven the Lambo
@@davevolz6138 which SUVs have you driven? Not disputing the “tippyness” of them (they are after all much taller than a car).
So you were complaining "why the M550x drive" does not have M mirrors, now you complaining why the X3 M40i have M mirrors LOL
The M550i is in a different stage in comparison to that x3 40i
@@SamCarLegion LOL...no it ain't. They both wanna be M cars, one level under the real one..
NO TWO wheel drive on the X3MC
I didn’t say 2 whd - rear biased
GLC63 has so much more emotion. BMWs are boring to me outside of the sharpness.
No more GLC63
By emotion you mean, a suspension set up that wallows, feels bloated, handles way worse, stops longer, has older tech. Yup def more emotion.
These cars are so sexy but too expensive
It's a bargain for what you get.
Not loving the color. I have seen some 🤮 that was more attractive. Great review though Sam. BMW's rediculous subscription program guarantees I will never own one.
Fast but super rough, not a daily driver
Not this gen
Interesting my father in law has a 2020 and it’s brutal
Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio is a direct competitor to this…and it sounds 10x better.
As much as I love Alfa - the X3M has better interior overall
@@SamCarLegion oh, for sure! They’re both great…but I’d rather date an Italian than a German. 😂
