  • In this short follow up to the NewTek Video Toaster episode, Bill renders the little Commodore Amiga logo animation that he was working on in Lightwave 3D and also talks about the plan for TheGuruMeditation CZcams channel over the next couple of weeks. If you like short and sweet episodes like this, please let me know and I can make more. They are really fun and don't take too much time. I hope you enjoy some of the unreleased Vintage Computer Festival East footage that I have uncovered during my time in quarantine due to COVID-19 on the next couple of episodes of TheGuruMeditation!

LOL. I remember waiting minutes to c4d draw just the wireframe.
I still use c4d today and when I complain about render time, I just have to remember the old days. :)

Ha ha nice. I started with Imagine on my A500. I was rendering an animation with a complicated object. The actual render time was about 3 days (72 hours-ish), but It took me over a week to finish it because I kept loosing power due to summer thunderstorms, ha ha!

Oh this was a delight. I remember playng with Lightwave 3D back when SeaQuest was still airing (and from your videos I've realized the renderer has always been so painstakingly slow, lol). But I had more curiosity now that they've released a remastered version of Babylon 5 on HBO Max and I was wondering if they only upscaled or rerendered the CG scenes (I'm thinking it's the former).
I saw the original airing of the pilot of Babylon 5 and for the longest time I actually thought it was done on Softimage (there was another news broadcast about that around the same time), but I'm glad it was Lightwave 3D. I thank you for answering how it actually saved renders and introducing the more complex Video Toaster. It really takes me back to a wonderful time in my childhood.

I used to use Sculpt 3D and the images were stunning but would take hours and some times days to render a single image or frame. Sculpt 3D was able to pull off some amazing ray tracing 3d images and animations for a product that came out in the late 80s

I was never a Lightwave user, but I was a big and early Sculpt Animate-3d person. My 1000 and later 3000 was connected to a Kurta tablet which let me actually draw and make 3d models pretty easily. One of the models I made was the Amiga Logo, which I hand vectorized on my tablet. I know I uploaded it to Compuserve, it may have ended up on a Fred Fish disk. I know I saw it being used as a demo by some company at one of the AmiExpos. I don't remember if LIghtWave could read Sa3d models, but I dunno! It's also not that hard to model the logo by hand with some graph paper.

OK U CANT EMULAT AN O60 WHICH IS TRUE 64BIT WITH TRUE 8BIT.. THEN U HAVE TRUE 8BIT GRAPHICS ON THE PC SIDE. I have had winuae. iits not as fast as a stock a1000 .I have a 8 core system, but in all truth 64 core 8x8 x8. Each single core is 8bit layered 8 cores. Pcs=mac started beating the Amiga Stock only , and only in number crunching ie rendering. Wonder why u need so much ram for rendering on the pc side .. for its fake"24bit"// its grouped , and layered . ore to the no multitasking , and no real-time on a pc=mac-closed source linux . Then again get more cpus ie Toaster screamer/oven .. nothing will beat that. Yeah Ill stick with my toaster 4000 .
