The birthday celebration for Jancey showed a lot of humanity. And, as disgusting as it was, I laughed pretty hard at her pulling out her pad and slapping it up against the lobby window. It was such a hilariously overblown overeaction
@@weirdomode3123yeah I agree, but it’s not the case for everyone. Her mom clearly looked young and had no proper guidance. Not to mention she was poverty stricken, no doubt in my mind that she loved Moonee but she definitely wasn’t the best mom for her. You can love someone and not be good for them. Not everyone realizes or has the opportunity to do better because of their circumstances.
This movie is outstanding. Have you ever stopped to notice all the small details presented in this artwork? The color pallet is so touching and loving.
Absolutely. As a matter of fact, I’d love to find a photo filter similar to the one they used in this film because the color palette in The Florida Project is striking and adds to the film's emotional depth. They used 35mm film to capture that rich, vibrant look, enhancing the warmth and authenticity of the setting. It's fascinating how these choices evoke strong feelings and contribute to the storytelling.
This woman was perfect for the role. I saw this movie 2x, I was stunned. The trailer makes you think it's about poor kids bored and finding things to do during the summer, which is a ripoff of the reality of this movie. The movie centers around the failure of the US system, the dissolution of family, homelessness, unemployment and poverty.
It is actually astonishing that this is even possible in the US. A First Wolrd Country .... I live in Switzerland and no, not everyone is rich here. Most people aren't, logically. So if people don't have work and can't afford to live they get taken care of and get a minimum to live. The paper work to get it is a huge pain in the ass which to an extend is on purpose. And no, it is not for free like many in the US think. If you ever ever get somehow money again in your life and the state has knowledge of that, it will get taken away except for the amount that is calculated for you to live. It's not a very pleasent life and there are many rules while getting money from social services. Breaking those rules means less money received and the end of the month or even over multiple. However you get taken care of and do not have to live on the street, motels, etc. I honestly can't understand how the US is not capable of having a system like many of the social security systems in european countries. Same with health insurance. This one is also not for free, unlike many US americans think. You need to pick health insurance of the provider of your choice. If you can't pay, the state will but you will accumulate debt which you have to repay eventually. It is required by law that every citizen needs to have health insurance. How are you guys just unable to figure this stuff out. I just don't understand that.
@@spectre1725 I lived in Switzerland for 18 years, Zug, and Arth, I agree. This movie broke my heart and has stayed with me for weeks and weeks. I want Bobby to be a father figure for Halley, and a grandfather figure for Mooney. That's what I like to imagine happened after the movie ends.
The amount of comments I see saying that Halley was a bad parent for doing sex work with her daughter in the next room. Yes, Halley was a bad person and irresponsible mother BUT do people honestly think she did sex work at the motel for any reason besides desperation and poverty? That she wasn’t trying to provide for her daughter?
Yea I agree. She was going through a hard time raising her kid in Florida especially because costs are high here. She was doing her best. It may not have been the smartest way of making money but Halley was troubled.
@@jamesbuchanan4979 no one is justifying it but i can’t imagine how tough of a choice it had to be. she wasn’t getting any help, struggled looking for a job, no car and could barely afford to pay to stay at the motel. plus she has a 6 year old i definitely have empathy for her.
This film should be a lesson in NOT bringing a child into the world that you can't afford. Practice VERY safe sex. I'm from Tampa and partied as hard as this girl probably did in my 20's. No child came out of any of those unions. The reality is- she should never have become a parent. Wether she loves the kid or not, she can't take care of her. I do not celebrate characters like this. This is a stark warning. Condoms every time + birth control. Treat sex with some respect, it's a big deal. Or just abstain. Sorry, but that's the reality of this film. Would you want YOUR kid to end up like her?
@@EdmundOtlasJonesI don’t think she was a good Mom, but she sold herself to get money for her daughter. I agree with you on everything else but survival sex work doesn’t make someone a bad person (the other stuff she did made her bad)
I always believed the guy Halley took the Disney magic bands from (the guy she hooked up with for money) called Child protective services on her! it makes sense, she basically took $500 dollars from the guy and he couldn’t get it back from her, so i think he called CPS to have the final laugh, yk 🧐??
She has too much showbiz experience. Halley needed someone with more street knowledge than business experience to play her and they got the perfect actress.
Ok, we remove kids from these, or worse, situations but do we care if children are receiving what they need from foster system , so they don't end up being Haylee at 18 ? We need to fix that. Instead of a our broken foster system children need boarding schools were they can get a certificate or AA by 18. Where they can actually can freely stay if they want to get a bachelor degree.
Cut it off at the root: always wear condoms and use birth control. Don't put a child in this situation by having one you can't afford. If more people did that and were responsible about sex, this would be less common. I know birth control can "fail", but let's be real: most people use that as an excuse, because they weren't even using BC. I feel bad for the kid in this movie. Not for the horrible mom....
Lmao this comment section just proves women can get away with anything. Halley was a terrible mother who couldn't take responsibility for her own self, much less a child. She consistently makes choices that prioritize partying and having fun over taking care of Moonee. She exposes Moonee to drugs, crime, and sex, and encourages her to be rude and flippant to adults. She neglects her and leaves her by herself to wander the city with no supervision. The idea that anyone can sit here and make her out to be a victim of circumstance is wild to me. She created her shitty situation through her own irresponsible actions and lets Moonee suffer all the consequences of her immaturity. Moonee is the victim and Hailey is the abuser in this film.
everything that's wrong with America all in one compilation. as a guy who moved to florida I can tell you this is very real in the way she acts. people in florida act just like this.....I know this is going to sound insane and def need to be done in the right way. Having a kid should be something regulated by the government. too many people growing up fucked from these druggy parents. and I mean regulated in the way you get your drivers license. just some basic knowledge test given to people to show a certain level of readyness. not restrict having a kid like some china law lol.
I lived (and spent my 20's partying) in Florida for over 2 decades. Young women like this are ubiquitous in places like Tampa, Orlando, etc. It's a good film, but I hope no one glamourizes this character. She's selfish and terrible everyone, including her daughter for dragging her into this life. Please: wear condoms and practice safe sex. Avoid hard drags. Make good decisions. Plenty of people have a "Wild youth" and still don't end up in this position. If you aren't emotionally or financially ready to handle a kid, be very careful about sex. I hope this film serves as a warning, not an example of what to do.

She loved her but Moonee needed safety and stability.
