Free-motion quilt an attractive case for curling irons with ironing board cover fabric and one layer of Insul-bright inside. We finish this attractive design with a raw-edge applique binding. Why settle for the uninspired fabric cases available commercially, when you can use use favorite fabrics or find just the right print for someone on your list. This is an intermediate project that can be modified to be done without free-motion quilting the body or binding. (A walking foot would be helpful in that case.)

0:00 Intro - This 11-inch curling iron case features an "aluminized" coated cotton fabric and 1 layer of Insul-bright. It has two different raw-edge bindings made from BATIK FABRICS.
    1:11 10 x 11-inch quilt sandwich:
    1) Cute fabric
    2) Insul-Bright - shiny side down
    3) Ironing board cover fabric

1:35 Free-motion quilt the sandwich with a modified meander, outlining the perimeter near the edge
2:17 Scrap Bindings form BATIK FABRICS:
Top binding (coral): at least 2 x 10-inches
Side binding (red): at least 2 x 20-inches--cut this one selvage to selvage--so you have a little stretch or play
2:49 Apply top binding to the wrong of the sandwich. I only use batiks for this. Stitch, turn and press.
4:16 Why I make this from a square sandwich
    5:05 No-ravel Raw-Edge Binding Options:
1 - FMQ - Free-Motion Quilt the top binding. The sky is the limit.
2 - Top stitch and add a little FMQ
3 - Echo stitch wavy, scalloped, or zig-zagging lines
4 - Cut binding on the diagonal
6:13 Trim at 3/16" and press in half
6:36 Mark curve with chalk and trim side and curve
7:02 Apply side binding, back-stitching both ends, with 5-6-inch overhang at the top and at least an inch at the bottom. Gently stretch the fabric on the curve.
8:12 Wrap bottom end with right angle folds and pin.
9:37 A Quick Mock-Up -- keep your cute fabric from peeking back out from under your binding
    FIXES for unsightly foldback:
    1) Flatten out trouble areas and press
    2) Double-check trouble spots as you pin
    3) Trim it and forget it
    4) Widen binding by 1/4-inch
11:14 Prepare and press side binding so it has little pleats around the curve. Pin in place
12:52 Use edger foot to sew binding with a little demo
13:33 Free motion quilt side binding with scallops that go between the pleats, to avoid puckers, and backstitch.
14:00 Trim binding at 3/16. Cut loop end on the diagonal and securely attach to back
14:17 Wash and dry, re-trim and clean up with a lint roller. Thanks!
